Hi all, thought maybe I'd give my 2 cents. First of all I can see the word "expert" to be bold when used

to describe oneself. Most like to call someone an expert as a compliment. I was not offended Steve,

but it did raise my eyebrows as you intended. I personally have a lacking of theory even though the

guitar has been a long time friend (30+ yrs) and like so many I just wanted to play and the theory

was never REALLY a priority. What you offer is an understanding to beginners and others of the

importance to learn music theory so they may find their potentials less painlessly unlike a lot of us

that has beat our heads against the wall from the lack of knowledge.

I value Jeromes input and answers very much. He has taken the time during his lifetime to learn

what I have not. The information is out there if one wants to find it, but the great thing about this

forum is the interactive discussion that can take place. Answers to questions will be given by those

that have answers or opinions as such even if their answers create debate.

I look forward to all input from anyone on this subject. Something else came of this too. The debate

between Jerome and Steve made me really think and understand what the hell you guys are

    talking about.lol            Mike

Nice! I also like the paddling pic and #6 cause it reminds me of a place I'd like to own.

Hey Caromshot welcome to Chordie. I hope your jouney takes you where you want to go.
Dedicaton, and persistance Scott! The same goes for learning the guitar. You are in
what I call the "classic mode". Most will at some point in learning get frustrated and
lay their guitar down for awhile usually in the begining and that makes it "classic".
Don't worry about getting better at first. Just learn even if you don't pick it up you
could read up on music theory, how guitars are built, favorite players etc. You'll
get back into it. Yes, personal lessons are the best way to go but at a cost. Hang in
there and remember a lot of great players are self taught. I've been at it for many
years and I also still get frustrated at times and put it down but.... I know right where
I put it down.         Good luck Scott,   Mike

For sure!! Have this terrible urge to get a mandolin. Some of the first music I learned

was bluegrass and always liked the mandolin. Been playing off and on with a mandy

picker. Back to work now so might as well get one.  If anyone is looking to sell contact

me.   Alvee--- Pix has one for sale you know and I think it is a very nice one.   Mike

Great story Old Doll. I can relate! So in essence you created a diversion. Hopefully it is
still working. Have the same problem as you do Toots with squirrels. They raid the
bird feeders that my GF has out. They've even chewed through the plastic window
on one of them. They manage to get on the hanging one and swing it about
until food falls out on the ground. We've got two large English walnut trees here and
they still go out of their way. BB gun? Hmmmm. Be my luck to miss and hit a passer
by as we live next to a street.lol We are short one squirrel tho as of recent. Seems
our power went off and well... you guessed it. Not a pretty sight.        Mike

Good to hear that Papa-T. I'll bet you'll have lots of fun along with the work. Like you
say it is good to get back to work. Good for ones self worth. Good luck!   Mike

You got that right Wayne! Been lucky not to have music gear stolen but pity the one who might
try!! Got my tele 2 yrs ago and really like it. Mostly the sound but the feel of the narrow neck
and the placement of the volume/tone knobs. I have a tendency to turn the volume knob by
accident while playing the strat. One other feature is a blonde maple neck which I like. Just
   looks cool too.lol         Mike

Hey PapaTom, Like they say hang in there. Alot of us are in the same boat. I've been out of
work also and it's been raining here almost every day. Fishing is slow, outdoor activities
slow, and my creative side likewise. Realizing I don't have it as rough as others helps and
as corny as it seems try-- "Somewhere over the rainbow". Things WILL turn around for
you in time. GF has been out of work also but landed a job last week after a year and a
half. I got a call to go back to work on the 1st of June. Sitting around wondering is the worst
part but never give up.      Mike

Great choice Roger. Amy is a wealth of information. If she doesn't know it she can darn sure
find out and will go out of her way to help. Cheers Amy!        Mike

Hey all, Just wondering if anyones got the spring time busies like myself. Good enough
weather(somewhat), to get outside and work on projects like getting the garden
area ready and some "spring cleaning" projects. My tool and storage shed was
a disaster until yesterday. Got the old 66 chev p/u to keep pluggin away on
and now the spring Chinook run is here and out on the river we go like mad-
men. Sooooo many people out of work that the number of people fishing has
really increased. Hard to find parking. I'll post some salmon picks in the "fish-
ing bug" thread. Seems like it's harder to find time to check in on the forum,
but will make it a point.        Mike

Hey Amy, Very nicely done. I enjoy listening to your work. You and Wayne are getting closer
to that duet? I think that would be a very interesting project. BTW: It sure is nice
not losing internet connection like in the past. Thanks again.   Mike

This is a sore subject with me also. These guys got the world by the gonads and blow it. Money can
make a person do really dumb things and one of the reasons I believe is that money can buy
a way around these dumb things. Why not axe these guys on the very first offense with no
buy-outs? Maybe they would think twice? Sorry to say, but,.... their big monies come from our
wallets. Can't help it but I like to watch MLB on TV. I still have the need to watch sports. College
is a good alternative but even they get into trouble.            Mike

Hey Tony, I also use the star hole punched out and just the plain type also cause I have this thing
where while playing I can readjust the pick by sliding my thumb across the top of the pick and
moving it to where I need it in respect to the other fingers under it and so the standard pick
usually is my choice. A light grip is needed to move it tho. Try using a small drill bit and drill a
center hole in one of your least fav picks,.... or buy one (lol).     Mike

Terrific story Pete! I live in Washington and didn't know of Andy til now and found out via
Uah. Amazing how small of a world we live in? Wayne knows one of Andys' buddies
.....amazing and way cool! I live in the southwest of the state and Andy must be up
in Jeromes' neck of the woods? Love to get up there. Might go soon as my daughters
live in Olympia and I could visit them on the way. Thanks for sharing this wonderful
            story Pete.    Mike

Hey Mek, Good story! Right on for you and your family. I remember that same feeling  getting up  for

the first time. Sweating bullets I was and if not for the medicinal cocoction in my glass I'd not got

up. Still get nervous but in a good way I guess. I'm surprised that you and Dad have'nt played

together before? But now your learning experience will really take off I'm sure. Isn't this fun?

Okay...... may I make a small suggestion? Now that you've taken the plunge, although it's

uncomfortable at first try not to look at the mic and fingers quite so much. I'm sure you already

know this but you really don't have to have direct audience eye contact...just make it seem that

you do. Occasionally look at your gear and play from the heart! Looking forward for more of

      the new duet stories.        Mike

Hey Bodie, Welcome to Chordie! This is the place to get help for questions like yours. Other

Chordians will probably give you a link to help out but I don't know of one myself. However

my advice is to try getting an "anchor point" on the pickguard area just below the high E

string using your pinky and ring fingers. This keeps your hand centralized in just that area.

Later on in the learning process you'll be able to use the right hand anywhere you want

thru practice! Good luck,     Mike

Toooo funny Deadstring! Sitting here just yesterday thinking the exact same thing while trying to
get the new router configuered. Technology is a whirlwind of info. Thinking to myself...(except
for the loud outbursts of frustrations, lol), how simple life use to be and how much more laid
back I was. Technology I thought was suppose to make life less complicated? Seems to me
in a physical sense maybe but not mentally. Way too much info. Thanks to people like MEK,
Doug and other Chordians I have a chance at skirting insanity..lol.
Has anyone ever put the musical fruit words to song? Someone at our wed. jam sang about
pooh in a jar...... too many cold ones or perhaps technology claimed a "win" with this guy?

Hi Amy,  Actually I didn't try that. Went ahead and got the G and am using it at the moment(after going thru a

bout changing settings)lol, and seems to be better but time will tell. Yea I better keep the N just in case.

The roku box seems to work just fine also, but...time will tell. I will still look into whether the N is

changable to G. I sure appreciate your help and concerns, Mike

Hey all, Okay.... after talking to HP and a service dealer, this model laptop(notebook pc), like Amy says

has an incompatibility with the "N" router. Also if I were to plug in a usb adapter the internal

parts(guts) as I call it, won't recognize the adapter. Too, the "N" card has not been tested by

HP as yet so they can't give an approval. THanks for the help, getting a 'G" router as of today.

Anyone interested in a good deal on a "N" let me know.      Mike

Congrats!! This new birth reminds me of my two girls. 26 and 22 now and miss the sound of those
little feet across the floor. Cherish their young moments as they go bye quickly. I chose
Gibson but Fender's not so bad.lol     Mike
