Thanks Wayne, it is now added to the 'Sticky'
I remember Lonnie Donegan singing this a few years ago - oops showing my age again I just checked on Wikipedia it is a 1958 recording - will anyone believe that it was re-released in the 80's
. Mind you I am pleased to see that Kenny's 'Kingston Trio' version was released in the same year.
Roger
Hi Timmay,
Welcome to Chordie. I am sure it was just a momentary lack of thought over something that was annoying you and I am pleased that you are big enough to stand up an apologize. The post has been deleted so let us forget about it.
Your comments, and everyone else's, are always welcome whether you are a beginner or an expert so enjoy Chordie.
Roger
OK I managed to get the picks posted today and I am told that they should take about a week to arrive at their destination. Fingers crossed that the post will not be delayed for any reason and anyone else wanting them please keep your eyes peeled next week for a message from the person who gets them.
The postage cost from here to the UK was €1.33. I already had a suitable jiffy bag so I do not know the cost of that.
Roger
Hi Helena,
You may like to know that we actually had a member called 'Spaminator' but he does not appear to have been active since 2006.
Roger
Hi Linus,
If you read through the thread you will see that the new recipient will not be revealed until they have the picks in their hands and they will announce it here. Then the first person to to send a private e-mail to them will be next.
So there is no list, you just have to keep an eye open and then e-mail swiftly when they reappear. Subscribing to the thread will ensure that you get a Chordie e-mail each time there is a new message posted.
Roger
OK there is already a new recipient lined up for the picks. They will be staying this side of the pond for now and going to the UK.
I see that it cost Kenny $3.90 to mail them from Canada to me in Portugal and I will let you know what it costs me when I get them mailed.
Roger
Hi Zurf, and everyone else for that matter,
As I understand it once a participant has perused the posted pack of picks package and picked his preference he or she (in this case me) posts a message here. It is then up to whoever would like them next to e-mail that person privately with a mailing address so that they can be forwarded on. However it was Jeff's suggestion that the next recipient remains anonymous until they get the parcel (to add to the suspense and a good idea too), they will then post a messsage here saying they have it and invite others to e-mail them for it. And so it continues..............
Kenny I will see what I can do.
Roger
Well Mr Postman has been quicker than anticipated and has paid me a visit today so I am up to my neck in guitar picks (a slight exaggeration
). The choice is great and I have selected a cool matchbox set which was put in by Kenny (thanks my friend) and thrown in a selection of mine. Who will receive them next??????? I am now awaiting e-mail requests.
Roger
PS I will be unable to forward them on this week as I am working in my friend's music shop and cannot get to the post office.
As an update I am still awaiting the mail man. The picks have taken a week or so to travel between you guys in America and Canada so I am having to be patient while they find their way to here in Portugal.

"Fret the D string on the 3rd fret...."
I think it's a better way to learn music.
Likewise Jerome, and I think most people who have been playing a while will do the same, however it is still important to know what numbers are given to each string. In fact some the individual strings sold in the shop I help out in are labelled as No.1 - 0.10" etc so the string number and not not value must be known in this instance.
Roger
I am afraid I would agree with your teacher. The first string is is the high e and the sixth the low E. With your guitar in the playing position it is probably natural to think that the closest string to your eyes, and the first one you play when you strum, is the first but it is the sixth.
There is often the same sort of misunderstanding when people say that they go down the fretboard when in fact the mean going up (the notes get higher as you go up the fretboard).
Roger
Hi Helena,
You have a wonderful way with words, I wish I had half your talent to be able to conjure up such imagery with my writings.
Roger
OK as I understand it you need lyrics to be able to complete a song. Well I would suggest that here in the Poetry section there are oodles of words just waiting to become the lyrics to a song. I have done this on a few occasions and I have found that you do sometimes have to alter the wording a bit to fit the music.
However if you do so you must contact the wordsmith concerned for his/her consent before posting it as a song.
Roger
Hi Helena,
Beautiful poem from you and on reading it through carefully there appears to be a lot of hidden meaning behind the words, reflecting some of what you have been going through recently no doubt.
Take care,
Roger.
Great song and recording Kenny, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Roger
First of all my apologies to Zurf, I never thought about the follically challenged when I mentioned letting ones hair down
. However in my defence I was thinking metaphorically when I mentioned it.
DevilCat, my suggestion to you would be to spend 3/4 of the time you have for the serious stuff of learning chords, scales and songs and then spend the rest of the time just strumming random chords or belting out songs you know. Do not worry in this session if you missfinger the chords but give the emphasis to keeping the beat going come what may. One of the biggest problems that newer students have is to keep the rhythm of a song going when they make an error as the automatic action is to want to correct it, so spending time just keeping the tempo even and not worrying about getting the chords exactly right is not on fun it is also benficial.

Hi TubaTooter and Wayne,
It is heart warming to see these youngters getting involved in music and addind their own magic to your performances. Thank You,
Roher
Hi Washburn,
I have to agree that learning to play the guitar should be fun, in fact I would say that each time you pick your guitar up to practice scales etc, you should finish the session by letting your hair down to relax and unwind.
Roger
OK Kenny, I am now waiting with baited breath, mind you they will take a day or three to arrive here.
RavenLady, as I understand it as soon as I recieve them I am to post a message here and the first e-mail that I recieve from will be the next recipient. At least I think was Jeff original suggestion. OK I know that I did not follow that but at my age you can sometimes get things wrong
.
Roger
I am looking for comments about Z's suggestions for title and the subject matter before I open a new sticky. By the way Toallyguitars will not get a mention in the 'Sticky' as they are guilty of periodically spamming us.
Please post actual links that will work with a button click and ensure that they are offering free help. Those who are running commercial sites will not be listed.

Now the first thing I would do with any guitar that has gold/brass fittings is ditch them and replace them with chrome. One of my personal quirks, I loathe anything that has a gold/brass finish
.
By the way the copy that I tried was a Daytona and it was made in China.
Roger
I have to add here that although I do not own an Ovation I would very much like to. I particulary like the design of Doug's with the leaf inlays around the sound holes but unfortunately have only ever played a copy this model, although I must say for a cheap (€240) copy it did play and sound very good. My friend Howard has a Thunderbolt TB01 which again is a superb looking guitar with a brilliant action and wonderful tone and I think that this model was only made for a limited period of time.
All I need now is to win the lottery..........................................:)
Roger
I recieved a message a short while ago that Per is looking at this problem. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.
