Welcome to Chordie Bill and Jimmer.

Persevere.  If you have real, honest-to-goodness fingers that are not deformed in some way you can play an F#m.  Many people have come on saying their fingers are too fat to play, or too short to play, or whatever, and in time they have all been able to do what they wanted when they have persevered.  So that would be my advice.  If it's any help to you, Johnny Cash also hated playing the F#m chord.

I think you've hit the nail square on the head.

How is French beer?  We all know about their reputation for wine, but how's the beer?  Free is my favorite brand.

There's so many possibilities, but I've forgotten them all.

I'm interested.  We've got some friends in town, but I don't think we have any plans with them as we saw them today already and there's a list of other folks for them to visit while they're here.

No new songs.  It's been a busy week.

EDIT TO ADD: I'll have my usual Daddy Duties, but the kids are on Spring Break so it won't be quite so early in the evening.

I play mostly fingerpick and I like Elixir Nanoweb .12s or D'Addorio Phosphor Bronze .12s.  It's all a matter of personal taste and what sounds right on your guitar.  The nice thing is that strings are cheap.  Buy a few different styles and if you don't like the way one sounds, take them off and put on some different ones for a while.

It's normal for fingers to hurt.  It's normal for fingers to tingle.  It'll stop.  Eventually.

Death grip bad.  Justinguitar.com good.

I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your friend.  I hate cancer.  If you want to talk or anything, you've got my e-mail, cell phone, Skype, etc.  I haven't got much to say, but if you do have something to say, then I'll be all ears.

A guy told me that you have a better chance of being hit by lightning than of winning the lottery.  I told him that I've been hit three times.  "Oh!  You should definitely buy a ticket then," he said.

Good luck Butch.  I've had that same shoulder surgery and if it's like me, the pain and recovery of the surgery is completely worth it compared to limited use and constant pain beforehand.  I'm hoping that you'll be able to get things working enough to play the way you already know how, but I greatly admire your positive attitude.

I bought a ticket.  If I won (I haven't checked numbers yet) I'm not sure that I could spend that much money in a lifetime.  But I would have a fantastic time trying.

Welcome to the forums Pam_ela.  There are certain chords that frustrate all guitar players somewhere along the line.  My big problem chord to get over was D.  Then F.  I continue to think that B chord (the one using the A shape with a barre) is evil and for mutants only.

My father was a Pennsylvania boy - northern Pennsylvania - and he was stationed in Georgia.  He did not have an enjoyable stay in the state.  When I was looking at colleges, Georgia Tech was on the short list.  My Dad said, "I'm not telling you that you aren't allowed to go to any school that will take you, but I'll tell you this.  I'm never going back to Georgia."  I've been there a couple times on my own and it looks like a pretty nice place to be.  Especially off the western side.

Good luck to naoslager jr. in whatever her life brings.

With Steve Martin and Vince Gill and others you'll recognize: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icMTVV5L … re=related

He had lost nothing - nothing at all - in the forty years since this recording: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xdn6htjkx0

Amazing player, and an amazingly bold musician.  I hope his soul finds peace.

Easy Guitar Tab White Pages.  It has a list of strumming patterns and picking patterns in the front of the book.  Each song gives tab, but also suggests one or two strumming or picking patterns to try with it.

I've got a lawn to cut after work, so later works better for me.

I'll get my own Premium account in a pay day or two, but in the meanwhile I'm unapologetically leeching off those who have already taken the plunge.   I'm working on "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay" lately and would like to hear some constructive criticism.

Going direct into the amp using a microphone to amplify the guitar is not the ideal situation for live application.

I don't think we're suggesting that.  We're talking about close micing the amplifier, not micing the guitar.

If all you want is a vocal mic, the Shure SM58 is as reliable as the rain.

Didn't Bass Viking say he mic'ed his guitar with a Shure SM57 to get a signal to the amp?

I listen to it pretty much every day.

It's the best way to learn, I think.  I hope you can find someone.  If business ever brings you to the D.C. area, let me know.  I live about 40 miles west of DC and would love a chance to do a little back porch picking with you.

???

Does it happen no matter what socket you plug it into in your house?
