thanks roger, until i read your post earlier as far as i was concerned the tune was finished. but now it's developed a middle 8 and some arrangement. i've re-recorded it but i have no intention of putting words to it.

and thanks to you too russ. inspiration came from a conversation with some guitarist from over the pond. all i have to do now is re-film it?

it's funny how some strings do that and others dont, well not so much. i'm sorry but it's the nature of the beast that they will squeak! you could try lubricating them (not a joke) use a light oil or the polish you'd use on wood....strange but true. you could also (and i do this before a gig) rub hand lotion into your hands/fingers, and it will help the squeak and your skin.
oh i forgot to say, to apply oil or wax polish, put it on a rag not directly onto the guitar and just rub onto the finger board strings.

good heavens, 3 new members in one thread....a record? welcome all. i would ask though if you'd take a look at the stickies at the top of the forum menu and abide by the rules.

as mentioned above, we have a wide and varied membership of beginners and well matured musicians, who will (hopefully) be able to answer all your questions and give help and guidance. the thing is ...you must ask.

russ, your experiencing latency. you may find the delay becomes a little intolerable when recording onto audacity. there are cures. is it a USB interface you are using? if so you may need a USB3. i had to buy one, got it quite cheap on the net. amazon i think? there are other tricks like taking out all unnecessary stuff like webcams cameras etc. it took me ages and the help of a tech to get it working. good luck.  phill

if your just kicking off recording then maybe you should start slow and work your way up. i've known lots of people that jump on a karaoke mic, get a big reaction from their friends and end up spending 1000's on stage equipment just to sell it off again after 6 months cos they stink as stage performers! i'm not saying that you stink, but look before you leap.

1st tip, have a look on amazon for some used recording gear, you can usually pick an 8 track up quite cheaply.

2nd, you need a good mixer, i bought an alesis (new) from maplins quite cheaply (less that £100)

3rd, good quality jack leads and connecting leads. (the alesis has a USB interface)

4th, unless your actually gigging, you wont need a big amp, i usually plug my guitar/keyboards directly into the alesis.

5th, you can use a stage mic for recording your voice with no problem. i wouldn't recommend sticking it in front of an amp though, direct inject is best.

6th, wooden/tile floors and bare walls will cause unwanted reverb/echo. you need a dead sound and add FX when you want it.

7th, if your near power cables you may get hum or buzz from amps etc. check before setting up.
