Funny this, isn't it? I usually say "Yeah, I'm learning guitar". Recentely I was thinking - yeah I play guitar fairly well - and then my brother-in-law came to visit, bringing his taylor to show off. And now.... yeah, I'm learning guitar. hmm

Haha...

Humbling...isn't it? This happens to me on a regular weekly basis.
I'm learning to just keep my mouth shut when people mention guitars...lol.

Well, I think you're on the right track. I, too, am guilty of the same thing.
If you really love a song though you will learn it in it's entirety.
Two songs that I love that I have learned all of them are:

Slowdive - Alison
Mansun - Legacy
Mansun - Six (Love it)

It's all about the love.

Ugh...crowds.
I love riding, but I would never go to Sturgis.
Actually, I'm done with most large events from here on out.
Too many reasons for frustration and worryation...

Wow, I hope that S.Tyler is okay. He's getting kinda up there to be falling off of stages and such.

I still have my first Acoustic Guitar (That I bought).
Paid 30 dollars for it in a broken state (Drunk frat boy kicked a hole in it at a party) and it's one of my best friends.
Honestly, I don't see myself outgrowing it at all. I built a pickup for it from a Piezo microphone and now it's an acoustic/electric.

However, my first electric guitar was outgrown within about 2 months...
My wife bought me a "First Act" ME400 guitar when I made 30. It was a great gift but once I started playing and understanding it's limitations and how horrible it sounded, it was time to move on. I still can't throw it away cause she bought it for me...so it sits in the back of the closet.

Um...the high-e string is usually muted when doing the A-Shaped Barre for chords.
You're fine...stop worrying dude.

i know a few chords G C D Em can change quickly between them, with a simple DDU UDU strumming pattern, and see lots of songs i know and like, that can be played with these but i can't play a single recognizable song, is it a rhythum problem ? timing ? help me out guys i'm ready to give it up

"If I had a million dollars" by Barenaked Ladies

That song uses those exact chords in that order (with the chorus using the Em)
A little funkier/faster version of that strum (DDU-UDUDDU)
And of course...singing.

From the first minute I read your post I knew something was bad.

Florida = humid, muggy and salty...Guitar strings WORST enemy!!!

I would recommend not buying from that state again.

-5-7--------|--------7-9-------------------------------------------------------

-5--8-------|-3--5//7---------------------------------------------------------

Using the Extended version will give you more tonal options when you're soloing/playing lead.
From any point you can convert to another type of scale (Phrygian....blues...major) to get a different sound that matches the chords/chord sequences that are being played by the rhythm instrument.

Well, when I play at church on my electric, my setup is as follows:

Squier 51 into my Fender Princeton 650 amp with Delay&Chorus on the OD channel...running the "power amp out" channel into the soundboard. That way I get to use my amp as a monitor and the same sound goes directly into the recording board as well.

When I play with my acoustic, my setup is as follows:

Yamaha Acoustic plugged into my volume pedal and the pedal plugged into the soundboard for recording.
No amp required because I don't need one and the volume pedal controls what the soundboard receives.

I have a "Road Runner" acoustic gig bag. It has pockets for pedals and cables, papers and books and it has straps for carrying it on your back as well as carry handles.

I got mine for free when I bought my bass from the pawn shop. They advertised the bass as coming with a case but they didn't really have one. So I twisted their arm til they gave me a case. As it was a shortscale bass they put it in an acoustic case and I walked out happy.

When I got home, the bass got put in the closet and my acoustic got put in the new case.

Sounds like the size in your top E string is different and it's causing a height difference which in-turn causes the string to hit a fret that it's not supposed to.

You can either change the string or adjust the guitar.
I would change the string (If you have a spare available) rather than mess with the whole guitar setup.

Also check out the "extended" version of your scales.
That is how I developed my particular sound.

Hah...the prisons here in the US are so comfortable that some homeless people commit crimes so that they can have a bed, tv and guaranteed 3 meals a day.

It's insane...since when did prison become someplace people aspired to go to!??!?

Zurf,

This is going to be awesome for you. Hey, I've got an idea...
If the feeling of singing while playing is intimidating, why not split it up.
If this is a studio you should be able to record the guitar playing track, then record the singing track while listening to the guitar track in your headphones and then just layer the two together while adjusting the volume levels and VIOLA!!!

You will have a produced track that sounds wonderful and there will be a LOT less stress on you as the vocal/guitar provider!

PS: anytime you wanna send me something I'm here...lol.

Ah okay, I understand.
That's unfortunate. However, there may be a solution...

The external mic port on your camera, is it a 3.5mm headphone/mic input?
If it is, you can get a small-form-factor piezo mic from radio shack and wire it (red to red, black to black) to one of those right-angle 3.5mm plugs and mount it to your camera permanently.

Those little mics are VERY sensitive and capture good audio from a distance. If there is noise like wind blowing on it or anything you can cover it in a little foam and it will reduce the noise pickup.

I had a severe problem with intonation until I lowered the action on my guitar.
Now it plays accurately up and down the neck.

Agreed, it's hard to fall in line and do the right thing and play in your pocket.
But it makes the end product soooo much sweeter.
