It's gonna sound good

Short of trying all the strings out there, as you mentioned, whitewater seems to have the perfect answer.  I like to push Kurt Mangan strings because they are very bright sounding and they also last a long time.  Give them a try.

I think you hit it buddy.  Practice is the only way to go.  Lots of practice and your fingers will get there before you do.

I have never been good at memorizing chords and lyrics.  And I finally figured out that nobody really cares.  It has always bothered me that I have to have the sheet in front of me, but no more.  I have had very few comments about it.  Don't let it bother you.  Like Zurf said, some of the biggest artists out there use a stand.
