Jamie how are you comming along with this song,do you have enough lyrics yet? I have been a little busy with some other projects and dealing with my car repairs but I have the chord changes and the lyrics you gave plus mine and when I have a little time before this week ends I will see what I can come up with if you have a you tube link to some song that has the feel of what your looking for or a myspace site post it so I can give a listen smile

Phil I know you were not demanding money and forgive me if I did not understand your sense of humour I just wanted to make you feel comfortable with my intentions of publishing these lyrics I suppose I should have done so in a private email but we yanks are a brash lot and prone to committing fopas at an alarming rate so "no sweat" as we say on this side of the pond russ smile

Dear Russel,

how long have you known me now? and you still don't get my sense of humour.

i wrote those words for the enjoyment i get from writing and taking part, i wasn't demanding money, specially not from you as i think of you as one of my best friends, and anything i can do for you i will...just ask. eg; if you want me to write some more words for you which will be an easy one! and an honour.

Pressing on...i've now uploaded "rock god" so anyone that wants to hear a country song done rock style have a look in myspace [web site on the left]

Helena any song would have or will be (for future challanges) judged solely on content not how good a recording it was or is and the same procedure you did would be fine, as far as tracks or "layovers" (sound on sound?) just a simple guitar and vocal or vocal would be ok there is no need for complicated recording equipment that was the reason for the audacity video tutorials to make it possible for anyone to record a mp3 for less then $5.00 (the cost of the y adapter) and if they didnt have a microphone there were suggestions on several choices the lowest being around $25 dollars or so but even a karoke mic could do the job, finely I am always willing to help anyone who wants to record by directing them to the free programs that produce great results and there are numerous members who never recorded that have taken this direction and uploaded there songs to myspace and if you can turn on a computer and type then you can produce a recording and your not an old meanie lol

Old Doll wrote:

Yes i reckon there must be loads of chordie members who could enter.

Somehow i feel the barriers been set to high for newbies.   "Just my thought". I know when i posted songs here
i did get great help. But it all  seems so complicated now with tracks and layovers and whatever. This is all well and good for whomever understands this procedure!
Sure i may as well be looking up a ducks Bum for all i know!  Must be an age thing i guess.  I do hate to think that some kids out their wont record without feeling the need to have piles of equipment to do so.
I do believe the first song i recorded here was with my guitar and Microphone. Then Roger simply added some more guitar.
So! it doesnt have to be equipment like the cockpit of a jet to be heard. Simple is often better.
I dont wish to sound like an old meanie here to anyone but theres thousands of chordie members, maybe others  do feel like i do.

sorry bout that it is the 7th my mistake sad most of the D form bars like a 5th fret D only 4 of the tones are played X5777 this form is a moveable shape with the root on the 5th string as long as the distance of 2 frets is kept example: C chord X355 ect.

SouthPaw41L wrote:

The E barre would be up one fret to the 7th(not 6th, 6th fret is D#/Eb) fret in a D form barre.

And to answer your question regarding minor chords in barre chord shapes as long as the differentiating string is not played( example; Bm X24432 and B X24442/ the differentiating string is the G string , 3rd fret on the Bm 4th fret on the B major) the first 2(A shape), or 3(E shape)(from your chin to your knee) strings of the "power chord" will work with a major and/or a minor chord progression.

A shape barre chord; X02XXX or X022XX, x24XXX or X244XX, etc...
E shape barre chord; 02XXXX  or 022XXX, 24XXXX or 244XXX, etc...

The |D/E| would be a bar D posistion on the fifth and sixth fret the |G/A| would have to be either a bar on the third and fifth frets or a bar D posistion on the tenth and twelfth frets as far as how minor chords relate to power chords or translate each key has a root and the steps from the root are intervals I,IV and V are always major ii iii and vi are always minor the viith is diminished most minor power chords are bar D or bar A posistions or a part of the bar at least the |A/Bm| woud be a bar A on the fifth fret to a bar Bm on the second fret or a bar A on the twelfth fret to a bar Bm on the 7th fret there are other ways to play any of these chords these are only a few smile and how did you draw that cool tank lol

ApeDoctor wrote:

Hey. Learning mostly power chords at the mo.

Would i be right in saying, that for example, if a song pattern goes |D / E / | G / A / | F / E / |  That could quite easily be transferred to Power Chords in exactly the same pattern? (so two for D power chord, two on E power chord etc etc?)

My other question, is how do minor chords relate to power chords? I mean a barred F# could easily be played on power chords as one up from an F power chord, but how do minor's etc translate?
For example if the chord pattern is |A / Bm / | How what that be translated to power chords?

Thanks (hope its easy to understand my question!)

Dr.

Helena I didn't mention this but since you have the answer is yes there were only 2 so theres room for improvement lol and this was a new concept and givin the time it (the contest) started I think the timeing was not the best, this occured over our labor day weekend which is a three day event and in the middle of some of the most beautiful weather so lots of folk were out enjoying it and thats understandable so I will hold the next "challange" in the dead of winter so only a real outdoors person will venture out for outdoor activity other then getting the groceries or doing the laundry and have ample time to sit down and come up with something and there will be a "challange 11" I promiss smile

Old Doll wrote:

So i take it there was only 2 entries to this competition ?

Roger I know your disappointed about the gig but you could not have foreseen what physical maladies would develop with the labor job, I think you made the right choice given the circumstances I have had to do some jobs that wore me out this year and I'm 67 so a "mans gotta do what a mans gotta do" so look at the bright side there are opportunities presenting themselves in areas that you are more familiar with and not as physical so take two aspirin and call me in the morning lol just kidding hope your aches heal fast and your picking wont suffer to long smile
