latest effort lt me know what you yhink

https://soundcloud.com/mojo01/memory-an … al_sharing

never played a "gig" before  but have been asked to play at Halloween event this year we will that goes

thinking of maybe adding another verse or two depends on if i come with anything i like
Am
I'll be the echo that you hear
C
off a canyon wall
G
out the corner of your eye
Am
the shadow that you saw.

I'll be the tombstone that you pass
while they are filling the next grave
a footprint in the sand
wash off by a wave.

chorus
G                                        F                                        C
I'll be just another name in the back of a family bible.
G                             F                         C
faded memories are my soul's survival.
G                               F                                       C
just another name in the back of a family bible

I'll be the broken branch that falls
from the family tree
a cold gray mist at dawn
drifting out to sea
I'm the words to a favorite song
that you can't recall
wind-blown leaves on the ground
scattered in the fall.

chorus

I'm the fresh cool breeze upon your face
on a warm summer night
the ghostly glow from a firefly
in the pale moon light
I'm the faceless soul you thought you saw
in a sleepless dream
I'll be that single leaf drifting by
on a lazy stream

chorus

been working on this for a few days, think it finally came together.  ill try to get a recording on sound cloud soon

G      D      C              G                       D                                         C
half  way  home   that's where I'll be when the sun's sinking low.
half  way  home   with the wind in my face and a long way to go.
half way home

G                           D                 C        G
been out on the road since i don't when.
G                 D                    C                    G
and i don't recall half the places I've been.
they don't much matter just stops on the road.
places to pay for the debts that i owed.

but I'm halfway home another day closer but I'm still alone.
halfway home I've traveled these miles and tired to the bone.
halfway home

ill soon be home if it's only a dream.
the closer i get well the farther it seems.
i thought that home was around the next bend.
but it was some place just like the others I've been.

halfway home now I'm further away than i was yesterday.
halfway home the closer i get then i lose my way.
halfway home

out the highway with no end in sight
she left a candle in the window but i can't see the light.
homes just a place that I'll never see.
i wander this world on my own endlessly.

halfway home on this endless road it's as close as i get.
halfway home mile after mile and I'm not there yet.
halfway home

halfway home   that's where I'll be when the sun's sinking low.
halfway home   with the wind in my face and a long way to go.
halfway home

Thanks for doing this cover. Sounds great to me.
I appreciate that you took time out of your schedule to record it.
It's funny how when I hear you play it I thought of a couple lyric changes as well.

It was a little faster tempo than I expected, but I loved the style you played it in and your Texas voice just adds to it.

I am envious of your talent, but thank you so much for sharing it .

BTW - you forget to answer my question - do you ever play gigs in Austin ?

Thanks again
Jim

apologies Jim for the changes i made to it. tried to do it like you wrote it but just didn't seem to fit my style.
so here is a real rough quick recording this morning of a butchered version of when magnolias bloom again

thanks Jim if i get some spare time  i will give it a go for you.

cool story about the lady from Austin . i am 8 or 9 generation Texan as well. great great  etc. grandfather came here in 1830,s . very interesting story in Texas history he was involved in if your interested i can send you a link to it

That song is awesome !  Your voice and playing are great as usual.

I still think it would be a great fit - you would be the man to sing that song I wrote ( if you ever get the time).
[When The Magnolias Bloom Again]

Do you play just around Nacogdoches ?
Have you ever played in Austin ?

On a side note Mojo, as a Texan - I thought you'd like this .....  I was on a cruise in Europe a few weeks ago and one of the women on the cruise was from Austin - a seventh generation Texan.  Her great, great, great grandfather was Jesse Billingsly - a soldier that fought at the battle San Jacinto. If you look at the picture of Houston and his men as Santa Anna surrendered, - he the guy over Santa Anna's right shoulder.  Here is link to the picture (enlarge it to see numbered men and names)  https://texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531 … 0309/m1/1/
It was really cool to meet her...

It was so cool to talk to her about it.

jazz is three guys playing three different songs at the same time

neophytte wrote:

Reminds me of that joke - what is the difference between a rock player and a jazz player? The rock player plays 3 chords to 10,000 people, and the jazz player plays 10,000 chords to 3 people! smile

Cheers

Great song well performed Mojo. I think a bridge and chorus would add immensely to this wistful melodic song.

Here is my entry for this month.  Started off as a poem as I couldn't find a song with the word `Outrage`.  So, I sat and wrote a poem.   Then with a few changes it become a song.  So, this is only the 3rd song I have ever written, completed and performed.  It`s pretty basic, I can hear a part that needs an echo in it but of course with the none of the right equipment, I wasn't able to put the echo in where it needed to go.  I think if this had proper music backing it, it would sound much better than on a ukulele.

i have been busy around the house my self and working a new song of my own  will try to get something before the end of the month

CMT used to stand for country music television but i am not sure what you would call what they play now

Jandle wrote:

Phill, now there's an idea for Chordie, its own recording web page.  Might bring a lot more musicians here too.  Hey that's a good idea, to delete some of the songs off my page.  I didn't realize I could do that and then add more.   Cheers for that, will look into it.

neophytte, yes, I did think of doing something along that line, a second account.  But then I thought of the very few followers I have on there already that I would lose and then I will have no followers or listeners.

mojo, ok cheers, you do the same as Phill re: deleting older ones or ones you don't like that much.  I think that's a good idea and will probably do that.  Yes, I know what you mean re: what we think might be our best and others don't think so lol, totally get that big_smile  Showing my ignorance here but what is CMT?

Jandle hope you figure it out and let us know. need some where to get more exposure. what i though was the best i have written got 9 plays on sound cloud lol apparently what i like and others like differ a lot lol.
as a side note took the grand kids to Dennys this morning for pan cakes. CMT was on a television close to our table. holy crap if that what passes for country or even good music these days there are several here on chordie  who should hit the big time. that or people today have incredibly bad taste.

thats what i do as well

Phill Williams wrote:

Hi Jan, yes that would be great, chordies own recording web page! I don't post much to SoundCloud or YouTube these days as I don't get much, if any reactions. And as you say SoundCloud want money for holding your songs. I just get into my account and delete my older songs or the ones I don't like freeing up space to put newer ones in. Give that a try?

i guess i don't have that addiction, i only have 5 guitars 1 bass(boat) and 3 amps.  i suppose fishing and golf compete for guitar budget
