I THINK I found it and forwarded it on - I had printed it to read easier... then wrote a poem of my own on the back. Despite not having an electronic copy, we may have found a good ole fashioned print copy! ![]()

Re: whatmakes a hit? (16 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
To go off topic here a little - or maybe back onto a portion of the original topic - As far as Chordie's forums go... I don't honestly visit the songwriting section much. Once a month or every other month or so, I may decide to sit down and go through songs posted in that section. Usually though, I pass by posts in there just because Chordie is a quick stop for me while I'm perusing the internet. I stop in here to do my "moderation" thing, see what everyone's up to, say HI, and move on. I generally stop in before I start work or right after, and work involves using this same laptop for hours at a time. I generally do NOT have the laptop open with a guitar in my hand. Guitar time is "me" time - unless I've planned for "us" time (skype, backyard gathering, making the choice to wade through the songwriting section, etc).
What I'm trying to say here is - don't judge your songs based on the amount of feedback you receive here. Myself as an example, some people simply may not post on your songs because they just didn't have time to really give them the attention and thought that they deserve.
As a side note - YOUR songs have sparked an interest and are on my mental list of posts to go through in that section when I have some extra time on my hands.

When I heard "second position" I thought of Ballet! Bill, don't worry... it's not rubbing off I'm that weird too! ![]()

But I had to look it up... and while I could be completely wrong, I think Russell meant something more like this (and since I honestly don't know my scales, I don't totally get it... but I kind of do, in a way):

It's a little like musicating, except you take other people's musicatiousness and put an arrangement on it that uses chords and transitions you know so you don't have to go through all the bother of learning something new and useful.
Hmmmm... I think I tend to Zurfelize most songs. ![]()
"Normalizing was on" - can't you push a button to shut it off? Knobs? Oh my... careful, don't twist them too far!!!!
On a side note... your singing is still coming along and sounding better every time I hear ya. I may have heard this one the first time we met. Of course the playing is great. ![]()

Re: Taylor or Martin (10 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
That really is going to come down to a matter of preference. I say try them and decide then. Although I LOVE my Martin - if I was shopping in that price range, I'd probably end up going for a Taylor. The lower end Martins can be finicky to fret, and the Taylors ... well... can be "ringy". In that price range though, you'll be looking at the X series with a new Martin (all made in Mexico - High pressure laminate). If you can find a Taylor with a solid top around that price, I think you'd be better off. Good luck hunting!!

So glad to hear the two of you are home.
I read your blog, my favorite line is "Still whining, aren't I? So what? It's my blog........ and I'll whine if I want to. LOL"
You're a great writer, Bill. Your personality really comes through your words. We love ya, keep playing... even if it's just for yourself (and Dondra). Music therapy is the best therapy.

Re: "The Cigarette Train" (Cont'd From An Earlier Post) (13 replies, posted in Songwriting)
I think stories like that make the best songs. DE writes a lot of is similarly, Bill. Good history stuff!
As for trains... my Daddy is a retired railroad engineer (choo choo train driver). His father (my Gramps) is a retired Railroad crew caller/ dispatcher. I'm sure my dad probably doesn't know much about the southern railroads though or their history ... different companies and world up here for us Yankees. You might remember though, my Dad sang the Rock Island Line during our live stream... because it's near and dear to him (and as much as he's LIVED the railroad... he hates it too). My best train memory would be of pulling the train whistle and having my eardrums nearly blown out while getting my hand covered in oil. If Diesel Engines are DIRTY and LOUD... I can't imagine what steam engines were like!

Caution, hitchhiker from England arriving in the states in October. Easily distinguishable when he plays guitar as it will sound like a man with 8 fingers per hand but will look like a standard guy with proper fingers and thumbs.
Looking forward to the PA Gathering and seeing all you Chordians again (including any that I haven't met yet before)!!

Re: Ad blocking the page (8 replies, posted in About Chordie)
Yeah, sadly it looks like Chrome is being persnickety about allowing mobile devices to view as a desktop. Hopefully they fix their mobile browser, as it USED to work wonderfully on mobile. I have a feeling that completely rebuilding the website is not an option for our creator, the admin, aka Per. as it would be quite an job to rebuild the entire site without really making money on it.
For anyone reading... more details are available here regarding Ads blocking the page: http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=28070

Re: Ad blocking the page (8 replies, posted in About Chordie)
Hey Dave, I get you're frustrated - this website is free to use, it's not a business, there's no customer support getting paid or website developers getting paid - it has been created by a man who dabbles with websites and guitar in his free time. This website is a hobby. Like many hobbies, it costs money to keep it going and the ads help offset the costs of hosting fees. We've explained to you in another thread, and referred you to directions and are happy to help you troubleshoot and find a work around for the issue you're having in your own thread about the issue. Please don't hijack other threads.
hj298, I'm glad to hear you were able to get the site working properly and the ads no longer blocking the page with firefox! Thanks for reporting back to us!
Strum on!

No problemo! Thanks for sharing the link Doug!
Dave, the Chrome for Android browser used to work well for me (again, by clicking the menu and then checking "request desktop site") - however I find that it doesn't always work where firefox almost always does. Try it out, if it doesn't then try firefox for mobile. Let us know how this solution works for you! ![]()

That's a heck of a campfire.
It was just a tiny little fire. LOL!
Yeah - um... it may have contained an entire wall from the barn we are STILL working on taking down (although most of it is down now). Bonfire, as Dino says, is more appropriate. OR, you could call it a tree trimming as well. Jim may or may not have gotten a little carried away, but it was worth it to see the look on Roger's face. I'm not sure he's ever seen one so big in a backyard before! ![]()
Thank you very much for the photos, UJB! You are the only one that truly got the "little campfire" in perspective!

Re: Martin Lifespan SP Strings (8 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Never had a problem, but I've been mainly using the silk and steels.
I know there's a wire company nearby here (10-15 min. drive) in a tiny little town (one of those towns that has one bar, a post office, and a small store) that makes some portion of their strings (the core or the wrapping, I can't recall which, but I think it's only one portion). It burnt down last year (I think, or the year before? - recently anyhow) and they rebuilt a bit further down the road to continue production in a new location with all new machinery. Now, that may have nothing to do with this post at all what-so-ever, but I thought it was interesting info. to share. ![]()

Here's a link to my photos taken over the weekend: Backyard Gathering 2015 Link Click me!
I have some sound files to normalize and such - I'm not sure how they'll end up coming out. I wasn't paying much attention while recording, and I'm afraid I may have had the mic volume set too low.
THANK YOU Joe, Ken, and Roger for making the trip here! I had a BLAST! It was a pleasure to meet Roger and Joe for the first time and to see Ken again. I apologize if at any time I seemed a bit high strung - trying to play hostess can have it's downfalls occasionally, however I think everything really went well (except for poor Gary's family, may he RIP - I'm afraid his restaurant will too soon). Mostly, I'm glad that it seems everyone had a good time, and felt comfortable while here. I know Katie helped out a LOT in that regard!
"here, I picked you a flower... let's cuddle... can you get this for me?" LOL!
I'm REALLY glad my Chordie Moderator Salary finally came in as well!
(edited to remove photo - it was too HUGE - it's in the photo album tho!)
Joe - the kids ate up half of the "pies", then gave up and moved on to other sweets around the house.
We look forward to visiting you in October!
Ken - I'm glad you took the scenic route home, and enjoyed it. NY has some beautiful country and old towns that people generally don't think of when thinking NY.
I mostly hope you're not too sore after all the walking and riding over the weekend! Steph LOVED going to Stanwix with "the guys" ![]()
