Funny thing, UJB and I were talking about this very thing during the Paarrrrr-tay the other day.  I took vocal lessons once upon a time, and know how to breathe properly... however... when sitting down hunched over the guitar, it's not as easy to do as it is while standing up straight with proper posture (which goes a LONG way to assisting with breathing).  I suppose I COULD sit up straighter while playing though!

I should also say, I disagree with the whole "stomach breathing" - I wasn't taught that way.  I had heard about that method, and when I've tried to compare it to how I was taught, it doesn't really work for me.  I was taught to expand my rib cage outward to the sides and ensure I'm not raising my chest up.  One hand on the chest to make sure it's stable, and one hand on the rib cage (like a hand on the hip but up higher on the ribs) to ensure it is expanding and contracting with breaths.

--- I'm curious what BGD was taught ???? Stomach breathing, or chest breathing? ---

I could listen to you play for hours Mojo.  I pretty much just strum chords, sometimes I fingerpick, I haven't yet figured out how to switch them up in one song like this.  Beautiful playing.  I enjoyed the lyrics as well!

hee hee - it was a joke.  You stated that you're blue collar and Doug says he's "so poor" he can't even afford shirts with collars.  smile  T-shirts only, the option is sleeves or sleeveless WHITE only.  smile

Bill, I've actually found a lot of good stuff in some of those catalogs - you just have to search, and have an idea sometimes of what you're looking for to shop around in them for rices that fit the ole' budget.  Were you thinking about picking up anything in particular that seemed too pricey?  If so, chances are someone here's got one or seen one at a fair price and can help steer ya in the right direction.  smile

The crowd roaring was a little distracting having never hearing it before - but it DID add to that LIVE feel you were looking for obviously!  smile  Nice job!  I liked it!  I think that's actually the first recording of you that I've ever listened to.  Do you have more floating around the web?  smile

So, it had no music written - did it have a recording?  I'm thinking somewhere I might have words printed out.  You may have sent it to me through facebook.  If so - it should be in our message history - maybe if not emptied out - I'll look and see!!

Hmm... that sounds like a lot of extra work I wouldn't have thought necessary.  smile  In my world, it would have been a simple - everyone contributes, someone burns cds, someone makes some cool cover art, someone sets up an online market to sell them.

Producer, lawyer, publisher... it's all over my head!  LOL!

There's not a way within Chordie to change your print settings (other than font size), however you can from your printer functions.  After hitting print a "print dialog" box should pop up.  Make sure the "print quality" is set as normal or best - if it's set on "fast" you'll end up with a faded print, that coincidentally comes out very fast.  wink  Let me know if that does it or not.

Hey Rick - I haven't seen any of your posts missing any time I've come on here.  I'm thinking it may have something to do with your computer, or rather your browser.  I know you said before that you once went to chordie from visiting the "history" section.  That would possibly bring up old cached pages of the site (pages that were saved in a temporary file showing old versions - from before you posted).  Do you still have the email I sent you about clearing your cache?  I think it's time to do that.  smile  Also, you should probably make the forums a "favorite" and visit from the favorite link going forward.  If you'd like, you an drop me an email and let me know which browser you're using (chrome, firefox, internet explorer, etc), and I'll give you some detailed directions and walk you through the steps to ensure you don't lose anything important and can access the site easier in the future.  smile

Oh, Bill but you earned it!  You make us all laugh, think, care, and we enjoy your company! Titles aren't bestowed often.  wink  I say, keep it.  smile

So tired I screwed that up... it shouldn't read "Guano Man" but rather... "hiney man"  hee hee - watch the video, you'll understand a little more - maybe.  wink

Ok, so for anyone that missed it - the live feed was actually recorded by the google guru minions and now just looks like a video uploaded to youtube - so if you feel like pretending you're at the gathering (even though it's not going on right now), you can sit back and watch it here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbXXQbvP6Sw

At some point, I might edit it to make it .... um... more view able in small increments instead of nearly a 2 hour video!  The sound sucks from what I can tell.  Apparently laptop microphones are not made for broadcasting musical events with multiple things going on and vehicles driving by (or nearby firemen getting married).  But... whatever - Had ya been here, you would have heard it all in TRUE stereo, live, and even been able to join in!  wink

It was a great time!  Thank you to UJB for all the homemade goodies!  We'll be snacking for a while.  I'll be kicking Jim's butt to get him to learn a few of those songs from your book!  DE drove quite a way with knee and back issues - that there is awesome! One whole pork butt was worth being able to hear him play just one song live and I had the pleasure of many!  My own Dad was here, right in the middle and learned how to play "picker's circle" style.  I think he even liked it!  smile  Way less pressure than being the only guy with a guitar in hand. Roger, of course, is still here stealing wifi. wink I'll tell ya what, this guy knows a lot about guitars but he can SING too! smile  We'll be heading out to the beach and falls and Adirondacks this week.  Fun stuff in store!  -- We had a few family members come out to listen as well.  Several friends didn't make it - but - that's ok, less people not playing guitar means more time for ME to enjoy playing and not playing hostess quite as often.  I did get photos that'll go up on the net somewhere at some point in time ... and I even did turn my recorder on a few times, so I"ll get some of those files up eventually.

Right now, I'm T I R E D - DE showed up Thursday night and we've all been going nearly non-stop since then.  It's been AWESOME!  Smoking Butts, Cream Soda, Rock Island Line, Beer, Salt Taters, Midgets, "Guano" Man, Evan Williams, singed leaves and grass, Corn on the cob, Hoffman hotdogs, The Monkey and the Engineer, tater salad, jello, mac salad, Leaving on a Jet Plane ...

A lot.  It was a lot.  A lot of awesomeness.  smile  THANK YOU to those that came and joined in.  We ARE going to do this again!  Photos and music to come soon...

(ps - Bill - you had so many different posts going on here, I couldn't keep up!  smile  I don't think anyone but you ended up with a hangover, we're all just a bit tired.  LOL)

I PROMISE to make a sticky about this soon.  Personally, using the Firefox for Android browser and choosing the option (from the menu, upper right hand corner) to "view as desktop" should resolve this for you.  smile  This will work with most other mobile browsers and iOS as well if you're using that.

oh yeah, you all totally missed the smoking butts

Ha!  Glad you were able to enjoy a little bit from a distance.  Was anyone singing and playing along with us?  smile

So far... DE showed up a day early, so we've had a fair amount of picking and strumming already.  I did grab some recordings which I'll need to normalize and cut a lot of chit chat out of before they go online some time (probably next week or the week after).  Rogers already found himself some interesting things to photograph aside from the strange American's he's staying with.

I have to get going here soon as I've got a couple pork butts to get over some heat!

musicate (v): to play guitar and sing while at a gathering of other like-minded chordie folks, especially in the case of Amy's backyard

well worth it, indeed!

Bill, the way I figure it is this - if I can remember to pay attention to the time, and the computer is charged, the wifi signal good enough, and the clicking of the mouse works properly, it's likely I won't be looking at the computer again much after I manage to get it going.  big_smile

As the original artist was contacted and unable to provide a written version of the chords and lyrics - I shall presume this has never actually been written down, therefore a copyright does not technically exist at this time. Should the original artist like the lyrics and educationally posting of possible chords removed from this forum, we will be happy to comply with removing them from the original post.

Members - let's just be careful with the posting of any possible copyright material.  For now, I think this is ok though.  smile  Thanks!!

Hey there Jay - I'm very sorry, I've had to edit one of your posts and delete the other.  Posting of lyrics on the forums is a violation of copyright law.  Songs found within the website are actually hosted on other servers, and linked here.  The only songs that are allowed to be written in full on the forums are those written by members posting their own songs they hold copyrights to.  The OP here has provided his email address.  Please write to him privately to provide more detailed information about the full lyrics and chords.  AGAIN - I'm sorry, I know it was probably a lot of work to type it all up.  Thank you for understanding.

Hey Phil - I wrote a thing up about it a while ago: http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=14150

If you need any help, of course, I'll be happy to assist you!  smile

You certainly should have a gathering, Bill!  If we could possibly make it - we will of course.  smile  Good luck!  I've found the best way is to just PLAN IT UP and invite people.  smile  Good luck!

I think we've all been a bit excessively tired. Jim's been working non-stop then we've been working on fixing up the porch in the evenings.  Roger had nearly 24 hours in travel time. However, I think we may have all started to catch up on our sleep a bit.  Roger was a great help to Jim last night with laying down some deck boards - and he sang a few songs for me while I was working. I'm hoping we can get some solid guitar time in tonight!  Then tomorrow - all the last minute shopping and party prep!

Ya'll are missing out on meeting a wonderful person.  My girls even say that they'd like Roger to come back to visit again and he's only been here a couple days so far. I have to agree with them.  Good conversations as well.  All good stuff.

Hmmm.... I think I need more experience with each before making a final decision.

I decided to play the game, "Where in the world is Roger?"  Well... from tracking flights - assuming he got on them properly, Roger should currently be relaxing in NY City waiting for his last flight.  We'll be heading out in a couple hours (around the same time his flight does) to meet him on his final "leg of the race" (ever watch Amazing Race? LOL)

We'll get him back here and get him all tucked into a pretty pink room for the night.  smile

Well happy NPD, Phill!  Sounds like a fun gadget to have. I still haven't had time to figure my son's old one out myself. I might be all ccomputer nerdy, but you win in the pedal department.  smile. Have fun with it!!

I saw where you guys were getting a laugh out of my Whoopi joke, so I am glad I won't have to make that decision due to Amy's setting up her live stream on YT. Thanks, Ms. Amy!

And y'all know what the difference is between a date with Whoopi and a bowling ball, right?

If you really really had to, you could eat a bowling ball.

I'm not sure I told that right......?

Not sure, Bill... but I do know that you can eat a Whoopee Pie!
