Topic: Why are some musicians so self destructive? (6 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
I hate to read, but I read the biography of the ROLLING STONES written by BILL WYMAN.
If you read their lifestyle, it is almost not to understand how they still stand as a rock.
A concert of the Rolling Stones is still a big event, and despite their drug abuse, the women, in fact the R&R definition: SEX, DRUGS ROCK "N" ROLL, they are still in a great condition.
How many 65 YEAR OLD MEN ARE ABLE TO DO WHAT MICK JAGGER CAN?
In the late 60ties and early 70ties a lot of bands destroyed their rooms. I read that one of the worst (+ VERY STRONG PHYSICAL) was JOHN BONHAM from Led Zeppelin, the late KEITH MOON (WHO) were champions in destruction ON stage or in their ROOM.
Since months this "destruction performers"are buzzing in my head.
- WHY
- FOR WHAT PURPOSE
And worse they are SELF DESTRUCTIVE too, and both are dead.
Is their something wrong in their heads?

Topic: HOW MANY CHORDIANS PERFORM SOLO OR IN A BAND? (6 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
Some of us play and perform guitar in a band or solo, while others just play for fun or remain in a years long rehearsal stage.
I play ALONE, and the major problem is RHYTHM. Playing with a friend is easier and I have the impression that you play 2-3 times better in a band or with an other guitar player.
SO HERE MY QUESTION:
- WHO PERFORMS WITH A BAND?
- WHO PERFORMS SOLO?
- BUSKERS INCLUDED.
Feel free to write that you are "the lucky person" who can live of his songs, and performance.
I think 99% of us play for fun, and occasionally you get paid by playing on a wedding.

Am I wrong? Sometimes you use a "guitar tuner" to tune all strings, and the same strings used with another device give a different result.
A good site for tuning, chords is the link I added

Re: Elixir Strings? (6 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Altex, I bought a set ELIXIR STRINGS in a music store in Belgium.
PRICE for 1 SET = €25 = $39 US DOLLARS. Which is indeed VERY expensive.
I went on eBay and looked for elixir strings, and yes BINGO. For the price I paid here in BELGIUM, I have 3 sets of strings, 0.10, 0.12, I prefer light.
Also for electric guitars, you will get 3 sets in stead of 1 set in BELGIUM.

Re: FALSETTO singers (6 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
Is he an ox now?
Except from loosing his b***, I really don't know how too sing in falsetto, when I went to University, (Oh Lord, I am starting to be an old fart.), it was in 1973 "le moment supreme" of Deep Purple with the mega-hit "CHILD IN TIME", I only remember that I couldn't speak, 1 day later.
So I am intrigued in what is needed to sing falsetto.
WLBAYE, I remember that there were "castrate singers"and a vasectomy will never give you the opportunity to have a high voice. They removed the testicles or at very young age, like 7 8 years old. Or later just before puberty and in those days, a lot of them died, a lack of disinfection, hygiene. HERE A LINK TO CASTRATO SINGERS

BBDgus , francais? Italiano? Dutch? Deutsch?
Where do you live on this planet? I am from Belgium
I ordered a GIBSON HUMMINGBIRD IN JULY 2006 ON EBAY!!
Once here, I discovered a CRACK in the Headstock, my luthier told me that this was a "TYPICAL GIBSON FRACTURE." I don't know, i DO know that when you transport your acoustic, the pressure and a guitar not entirely de-tuned, don't walk hand in hand.
I also noticed that MARTINS or my electric guitars suffer less using the same transport.
I WOULD NEVER TRIE TO GLUE A GUITAR. Most of luthiers have there own mixture.
Am I right GSE? I don't know the glues you mentioned, that's why I let repair every scratch, or other things.

Topic: BECOMING FAMOUS/ A COCKTAIL? (0 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Is there a cocktail to become famous? Or is it all SHEER LUCK?
One of the most fantastic trips I made in the USA was, what I call the BLUES TOUR.
We started to find the remains of route 66.
CHICAGO - ST. LOUIS - MEMPHIS - NASHVILLE - NEW ORLEANS, yes all MUSIC CITIES.
I have seen bands playing and performing a lot better than the "average" mainstream band.
WHY IS IT SO DIFFICULT TO BECOME FAMOUS?
We all had our dreams to be famous as guitarist, singer, but nothing happened.
THAT IS THE REASON OF THE QUESTION.
- you are very very good on guitar.
- your band and you have a musical input, and as band you play great stuff + chemistry.
- each member is skilled in what he does.
WHAT ABOUT BEING DISCOVERED? It is probably easier today with myspace, youtube compared to 10 years ago.
DO ARTISTS STILL SEND A CD WITH MUSIC TO RECORD COMPANIES?
AS BAND DO YOU CONTACT BARS WHERE YOU CAN PLAY?
In fact is it LUCK or HARD LABOR? OR BOTH?

I did a lot of thinking and every "doc" has his own opinion.
Finally it is the patients call.
You can sit in a corner as a WILLOW, and weep OR you can be a poplar, a high tree.
I love when people USE THEIR CHARACTER, how difficult it might be.
You really need to have COURAGE and MOTIVATION, I admit if you can make your living from a passion isn't that great?
MAKING A PROFESSION FROM YOUR HOBBY AND PASSION IS SO BEAUTIFUL, and that motivation helpedyou a lot.

We all love music.
English is NOT my mothertongue and 30 - 40 years ago, we had to "do it" with 2 hours English at school. Youngsters from today understand the lyrics
So you ALWAYS FALL IN LOVE WITH A TUNE, followed by lyrics. I speak for mysel
THE BEST ALL TIME LYRICS LIST (I believe a WORST list would be better)
1) STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN (And as we wind on down the road our shadows taller than our soul) this an amazing phrase.
2) A PERSONAL ONE, "MOTHER" by Pink Floyd.
3) AMAZING GRACE by various. (written late in 1772 by Englishman John Newton)
4) FATHER AND SON by Cat Stevens the Q & A structure is brilliant.
5)DREAM ON by Aerosmith.
What's your list? I don't want yo put phrases of songs but you'll find them easy.

That custom, having recovered all original pick ups which are PAF.
I was "desperado" BUT my daughter's lover boy found them. 3
On that custom is a serial number proving a construction probably made in 1967 but officially they brought it on the market in 1968.
I replaced the originals in 2003, by 2 P-90's, in fact P-94 to match with the cavity.
I have a Fender Strat 1964 ALL ORIGINAL, and everyday I ask myself do I need these 2? Selling my FENDER 1964 and that original Gibson, I am able to buy 5 expensive guitars, and still have half of the money. I believe that once you start doing this, you will earn a lot
IF ON THE RIGHT TIME THE RIGHT PLACE AND THE RIGHT PRICE = I HAVE TIME.
When I worked MONEY was my favorite Pink Floyd song.
NOW my favorite Pink Floyd song is time.

But in answer to you RUSSELL, can one FUNCTION NORMAL WITH ALMOST in CELSIUS 39,90 calculated to FAHRENHEIT which gives 140°F, a little bit less.
I know what I have to take.
About the GIBSON CLASSIC LES PAUL, I don't know. But once in the store they give answers like a Classic but better than Standard, even .

And I am SCARED, really scared
A N D I FEELING S I C K with 39,9° high fever (= almost 104 °F) and this is killing me.
I tuned the guitar with the set I had, there are some strings who look awful, but it plays

Re: SouthPaw41L's Human Interest Story (18 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Dear Toney, there are some things we have in common.
But some questions: as a guitarist playing gigs amateur/semi-professional/professional do you or others pay money to be insured in case of an accident, in this case fingers, hand arm?
You need a lot of courage, suffering AND pain to play again, and my reaction is IF THEY SAY GIVE IT UP, or you CAN'T WALK AGAIN (told in September 2000) AND DRIVE IN A WHEELCHAIR, it is as there is a GOD who tells you MOVE ON YOU CAN DO IT.
Another question, it happened 20 years ago, did you play in a band at that time? It is very difficult to avoid thinking about what happened, and there are a lot of WHY'S HOW'S and IF'S. Reading that article I was really touched, no need to tell why, but I believe you become a better person if you believe yourself, and you focus more on what you still can, and the references = 1 word WOW, I didn't know it. Re: WHAT ARE THEY: DUESENBERG (2 replies, posted in Electric)
NELA, what you write is EXACTLY WHAT I DO. But here I wanted to know if DUESENBERG GUITARS are good, reliable, versatile in fact worth buying IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY.
I worked as a dog for 23 years, 80 hours a week, as Medical Doc, I had some "lucrative specialities" and I've got luck.
Situation is I got a car crash, and it is possible that I have the money but I am LESS impulsive spending it. (I own 23 guitars), and my best serie is PRS, a custom 24, and the PRS EG set made in the USA. It's almost impossible to spot them and if you see an EG it's double in price.
I have a GIBSON LP CUSTOM 1968, and changed the PAF'S by P-94.
The DUESENBERG 49er is really similar, I just try to find more info.

Topic: THE STEP BEFORE TUNING A GUITAR (4 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
I've met some friends and contacted some others, and 90% WHICH IS A LOT has problems to change strings by new guitar strings.
You need to change your strings
It is exceptional to see my string like you see it in the store, I have sometimes loops, in fact I always have a problem after I put the string in that hole AND NOT WITH TUNING, BUT ABOUT HOW TO CHANGE A GUITAR STRING.
How does it works, and I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON, you put the end of a string through a little hole, you pull the end of that string and you start to wind that string and THERE IS MY PROBLEM.
Playing so long and always avoiding to change strings because it sucks in my case.
You take the end of the string and you start to wind it a few times.
Do YOU WIND UNDER THE STRING or ABOVE, or BOTH?
I never have a guitar with new strings like you see in a store, there are sometimes small loops, but at the end my guitar IS IN TUNE but aesthetics?
Please give me a good advise.
