Brian, you and Pete are rubbing it in with your spring songs! We've had a garbage spring and summer what with the lock down, the weather's been all over the place, having to stay home and isolate due to you know what and the apparent second spike. But at least your song offers a little sunshine and hope and as you know hope springs eternal.
BTW, I heard at least two chords. Nice work.

Love the melody and your voice is so reminiscent of Burl Ives.

profound Jeff. I suppose we all have similar thoughts but getting them down in an intelligible order is the trick.

Fine writing.

Jim, I just looked through your words again and I have a question; when you refer to "feathers" is that a salute to Forest Gump? if so it doesn't make you a tealeaf LOL

I had but didn't want to deviate from the plot!

yes another fine observation. Ann and i went through a stage of going to clairvoyants mainly for entertainment value. it's funny because you're told this stuff and then try to fit it into things that have happened or are happening, like buying a pair of slippers 2 sizes to big hoping you'll grow into them?

well done Pete

I think that proves my point, it's "The Broken Doll" not "China Doll". Every time I think of that song I actually think of our friend Old Doll, who inspired the song in the first place.
Your rendition still mists me up, you did a great job with the recording and the video.

Thank you Roger.

Hope you recover fully soon. Every cloud has a silver lining, you were ill but it gave you a fantastic song. I'll look forward to hearing it.

Here's a little factoid; two years ago my wife and daughter in law decided that my studio needed a make over. So my desk and filing cabinet got chucked out into my garden shed, much to my dismay! The filing cabinet contained hundreds of songs ranging from the mid 60s, yeh ok most won't be missed but there are a few I consider good, Roger you'll remember "the China doll"? Etc.

At the moment the weather is quite inclement so venturing out requires a deal of courage and time to sift through all that paperwork but I will get around to it and see how it works out.

Thanks for all the encouragement.

my usual modus operandi is; i write a song. i record the song. i stick it on a CD. i forget it till i play that CD maybe 10 years later. BTW, i never learn the words!

today, in the shower, a song i wrote 10 to 15 years ago came into my mind and to my amazement i remembered the words, chords and arrangement! i'm now debating whether to make an updated recording as the original was on 4 track and i now have 24 tracks to play with?

I enjoyed working with some great talent and respected friends from hobbit land. It was an interesting and challenging project, I just wish more of our chordie friends had taken the time look and listen.

Thanks Brian and Pete.

Love the way you match the natural with entertaining verse. I'm surprised you missed all the under thirties with their mobiles charging at every outlet in the place? That's a great twist at the end.

Nice one looking forward to hearing it.

Once again you find a theme for a great song. Not I love you or you broke my heart but a song or poem about our fascination with songs that make a person want to slit their wrists.

13 to 15 is considered a warm day here! Two days of over 20 equals thunderstorms.

Keep on keeping on my friend

That's a good one Pete. My mother's favourite when I was a kid was...you come home here dead and I'll kill you! She said jokingly... hopefully!

The Ghosts Of My Forefathers.
By Phill Williams.

Do the ghosts of my forefathers look down upon me?
Do they scorn, have they pride?
Do they frown at the person I have become?
Did I fulfill their hopes?
Have I fulfilled my dreams?
Or do I follow my desires as a beast in the woods
No longer human when I am gripped by desire
Give in to temptation
My strength lies elsewhere.
Do I follow the path of my illustrious elders?
Or have I strayed from their plan
Did they set out my course?
Have I veered to the left – to the right?
Am I strong in my mind and in my soul?
Do my dead friends sigh as they look down upon me
A sad, poor old man.
Never fulfilled his own ambitions or goals.
As the sun shines once more
On the horizon the storm clouds gather.
There are more ways to die than to live.
More sadness than smiles.
More tears than laughter.
NO! THAT I DENY.

nice song Jim. i found it difficult to play with your chords and it helped with an Am in here and there. as the writer you know how to play it so lets hear it please.

Hey Brian, I don't remember that post...sorry. must say though Jan has done a brilliant job. How is she? Haven't heard from her for ages, hope she's well and give her my best regards. Keep well yourself.
