Re: Beatles vs. Marley?! (22 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
Pix, I think it’s a tough comparison. I like both for different reasons but I truly wish I had been exposed to more Bob Marley growing up. Radio stations play what’s popular and up in western NC you had top 40 pop, R&B, country and that's about it other than public radio which was never played at my house growing up. You know I never heard a Bob Marley tune turned into bluegrass but that would be a hoot to hear, don't you think?
That would indeed be interesting! I'm sure it could be done... You ever heard The Gourds cover of Snoop Dogs song "Gin & Juice" I'd have never thought Rap could sound that good bluegrass

Re: Beatles vs. Marley?! (22 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
Perhaps "boyband" was a bit much
I didn't mean for them to be compared with Nsync and such
I agree that they were on the raising wave and really did do tremendous things for music. But I don't feel like we would be lost without them. I think it was more of a "time due" kind of circumstance that they just happened to catch. If not them it would have been someone else... But that's just my opinion
I don't think the credit is really all theirs. There were alot of people behind the scenes that made it come together and it could have been any band of the time... IMO
I've never really felt that Dylan was as great of a musician as he's been credited. Granted he was an outstanding songwriter but the rest ....ahhhh No biggy though... We all like different things

Marley (IMO) I've never been that big of a Beatles fan. They were just "The boyband" of their time... Some great music came from them, for sure, but I still think they are overrated..

Nice area! I'm about 2 1/2 hrs southeast of you, in a little town called Chadbourn about 45 minutes from the coast. If you're ever in the area, my doors always open to a fellow Chordians
Best of luck with the guitar and hope to continue seeing you in the forums! -Pix

Hey Darrell, Welcome to Chordie!! It's great to have you aboard! As for finger exercises, I'd say scales are the way to go. They're great finger exercise and educational as well
If you don't mind me asking, What part of the state are you from? We have a few regulars here from NC. -Pix

Re: YOUTUBE! (7 replies, posted in About Chordie)
Correct me if I'm wrong but at the bottom of the song page is an add video button. Is that not what you want? Just get the UTube address of the song you want and add it there.
You need Per's approval to do so and only your work can be added. You're not allowed to just pick a vid from youtube (copywrite issues)...You must make one yourself in order to link it to Chordie.

Topic: Selling my AS83VV... Any Interest?? (2 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Well I'm ordering more lutherie tools and need to compensate the income to please the wife. So, I'm selling my '07 Ibanez Artcore AS83VV. She's in mint condition! No marks, dents, dings, scratches, not even a pickmark! No problems at all! Just like new but has been set up.. I bought it new and have only logged about 20hrs on her. I just don't play electric. I restrung her just a couple of days ago and played her for an hour or so.. Very nice tone and playability is excellent! She handles all but the heaviest of styles very well. Also included is a very nice vintage archtop hardcase. The model has since been discontinued but received great reviews. Here's a link to the musicians friend page for it http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod … p;ZYXSEM=0
**If any fellow chordians are interested in her please contact me via email for a price and transaction details. Questions/comments about the quitar itself are welcome here but all transactions details need to be conducted outside of Chordie.**
Here's some pics I just snapped...

Thanks -Pix

Thanks Pix!
I can see how the Flat is done; is the quarter sawn like 4 slices from a cake? How is the rift done?
Wood be good to see some of your non-instrument related stuff too!

This shows how it's cut.
I don't keep a scrap book with photo's of past jobs but my parents own a piano that I redid the inlay work on a couple of years ago as a present for them. I'll swing by this afternoon and snap some pics of it and post them for you. It's brass and Mother of pearl torch inlays. It's a very old handbuilt piano. Never seen another like it. Even the soundboard was handmade from mahogany instead of the metal used on all other pianos I've seen. Very cool piece!

It wood (boom, boom) be great to see some of your work Pix.
2 questions;
Is a dry sink something that accomplishes the same job as a regular sink but without the water?
And I realise it has something to do with wood, but what exactly is "quarter sewn hog?" Is it anything like lacewood?
"Hog" is just slang for mahogany. Quarter sawn is the way it's cut. Quarter sawn is essential for proper stability in the wood but is hard to find. I'm lucky enough to have a old family friend who owns a saw mill and can cut to my specs.
Here's a quick example of wood cuts.
In a month or 2, (as soon as I get the rest of the tools in) I'm going to start my first custom guitar or ukulele build and I'll be posting pics through out the whole process. -Pix

Did you build that Pix???
No, not that. Dry sinks aren't too common around here. I do mainly kitchen cabinetry, build-ins and repairing/refinishing of antique furniture. Gold leafing, inlay repair and such.

Well I do a lot of woodworking but it's more of a job than a hobby... I really enjoy fishing, camping, and boating. I'm an avide reader. I also skate and surf
Though the surfing has eased off some over the past couple of years. I'm currently collecting more tools to get further into lutherie. I got a really pretty slab of quarter sewn Hog about a month ago and it's about time to start putting it to use ![]()

How do I find or change guitar chords to ukulele chords on this site? Mahalo.
Hey seanahern, Welcome to Chordie! To change your settings just click on the "Resources" tab at the top of the page. then scan down to the bottom and select "change settings (instrument/tuning)" and you can then set all the songs on chordie to a your choice of several instruments. The only flaw is that all songs will be changed. Currently there is no way to change only a few songs... The way to work around this is to create another chordie account for the other instrument you play or you can just keep changing your settings. -Pix

Hey Cam, I've been here since Feb. 8, 2007... (You can see everyones registered date under their name.) I had just gotten a guitar in November of '06 after not having one for 14 years. I was trying to re-learn it all and a friend turned me onto Chordie for the music. I hung around and watched the forums for a couple of months, then signed up and joined in... It's been my home page every since

Re: This is a question (3 replies, posted in Other string instruments)
If you would tune a uklee or whatever lol would you tune it like a guitar but a 4 string
There are several ukulele tunings...
C Tuning (GCEA) is mainly for Soprano, Concert and Tenor ukulele. The same as the higher four strings of a standard tuned guitar with a capo at the fifth fret with string four "G" one octave higher. You can ,however, get strings to tune a baritone to C as well but it's not commonly done.
Key of "C" Low 'G' Tuning - For Soprano, Concert and Tenor ukulele. Same as Key of "C" Tuning but with string four one octave lower. This is the same as placing a capo at the fifth fret of a standard tuned guitar.
Key "D" Tuning (ADF#B) - For Soprano, Concert and Tenor ukulele. The same as the higher four strings of a standard tuned guitar with a capo at the seventh fret with string four "A" one octave higher.
Key "D" Low 'A' Tuning (ADF#B)- For Soprano, Concert and Tenor ukulele. The same as the higher four strings of a standard tuned guitar with a capo at the seventh fret
G Tuning ( this is the one where you tune DGBe just like the higher 4 strings of a guitar)
It's used mainly for Baritone but is also sometimes used for Tenor ukulele.
String 4 can also be tuned up one octave.
If your not sure what you have, just measure the body size (length and width) and the scale length (from the bridge to the nut) and post them and I'll let you know.

Re: This is a question (3 replies, posted in Other string instruments)
my uke is tunned to C so what chord is this that i am playing. The G string fingered on the third fret, C string fingered on the second fret, E string fingered on the first fret and the A string fingered on the first as well. this chord shape works well with E and F. i use this chord when i worked out "look out there's a monster coming" by "The bonzo dog doo dah band" But when im asked by other musians, namley guitarists what the chord is.
i have to admit that i dont know. Can anyone help me please?
Tuned in C (GCEA) fretting 3211 is a Bb. This is a movable form in that tuning. Move up one fret (4322) and you have B, Once more (5433) and you have the C chord etc....

Topic: Vanishing picks...Where do they go?? (23 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Anybody else always having to buy picks? I have a few little wooden (treasure chests) boxes around the studio room. I buy picks by the 72 pack and keep 3 different kinds to fit different styles of play. Just picked up the guitar and went for a pick and can't find one anywhere!! Statistically speaking I shouldn't be angle deep in them
Seriously, I bet over the past year I've bought over 400 picks!! My house is kinda jam central, so I have a crowd over a couple nights a week at least, so I expect a few to wonder off but man this is getting ridiculous! Anyone else always having to search for a pick? Where do they go?? It's a mystery to me! Even the box of personal picks I keep in the bedroom is empty... Maybe the wife is giving me a sign ![]()
