Thanks for that Roger.

Does that mean that everybody and their Aunt's Solicitors will be lining up Writs in hand?

Good to see so many old poster's new posts.... WE missed y'all!

Thanks for the info Chevo.  Checked out the youtube link and they got some fine music going on there.  Portland on the 30th might be doable and a nice venue.  A little surprised there isn't a booking in Seattle.... they do like good music up on the sound.

I've not tried to make a nut or saddle from antler yet, but I have used both bone and antler in decorative inlay work for another project.... of the two I think antler is a bit harder than cow femur, which makes sense as it it used defensively during rut and has to be tough enough to withstand severe impact and torque without breaking.

Both seem to work well using tools designed for cutting metal, such as jewlers saws and pattern files.  Finishing with silicon carbide abrasives and polishing like if it was soft stone or metal.  I'd really like to see if it could be done with something like Agate or Obsidian, but I'm thinking that they might be prone to chipping and making sharp surfaces that might cause string failure.

Might be fun to give it a try though.... perhaps when I've fully retired and have waaayyy too much free time on my hands!?!

Sorry Toney, no offense meant.... but we Northwesterners are kinda wishy-washy when it comes to College Ball.  I like the Huskies, and am also rooting for the Oregon Ducks for another shot at the Rose Bowl this year.  But (and it's a big one) I am a Beaver Alumni and although I might get run out of town on a rail after a little tar and feathers for even hoping our arch nemesis gets that chance again this season.... if it happens it would be a good thing in my book.

Is that burning asphalt I smell?    Gotta Go! LOL

Welcome to Chordie Lpeterson!

Please take a few minutes to browse the various sections on the Forum where you will find topics labled "Sticky".  There you will find some general guidelines and suggestions to help you get the most out of your Chordie experience.

To direct you in the right direction however, you should either take your request to the "song Requests" section, or you hit the tab on the top of this page labled "Songs".  The Songs Tab will take you to another page where you can choose the first letter or letters of the title you are looking for, which will then take you to another page where you can locate the exact song you are seeking.  There will likely be several versions available from many artists who may have recorded it and I'm sure you will find a version you will be able to get around.

Once you have located the page with the song you want to learn, over on the right side of the page there will be an option to choose which tuning and make adjustments to the key so that the whole will be transposed as you would prefer.  That's a really neat feature of the Chopro format that Chordie is based on.... on the fly formatting.

Please bear in mind that Chordie does not host any songs directly on it's servers but rather works as a directory to music that is available elsewhere on the web (so you don't have to go through the tedious searching on your own).  There are a few limits to what you can avail yourself of here, but not many.... and almost none that are limited by Chordie itself, but rather by some other entity who may have restricted access out of some inflated sense of ownership.

So with that, once again I would like to extend a hearty Welcome to the Chordie Community, where the only requirements for membership are an interest in music, an open mind, and a sense of respect and courtesy to others.  There is a whole bunch of folks here from around the globe willing and able to encourage and assist you in your musical journey.  Jump right in and hang on!

Welcome Aboard!

What's Facebook??

Have as much use for it as Twitter.... Sorry to those of you that think it's grand!  Somehow I don't feel any burning need to be intimately connected to a half-million people at any given time.  I have my friends, family and of course my extended Chordie Family, beyond that my needs for social interaction are well met Thanks.

Good Luck to you Brother Zurf!

Naturally Winter is sneaking upon us and believe me it will be harder and harder to stay motivated when everything in you wants to stay close to a fire and vegetate.  Football, snacks, Holiday Goodies and spirits always make it difficult to stay on task in the fitness department.

Like Cam, I tend to hover right in that 155-160 range year round, and at 6' if I lost more than ten pounds I'd have to staple my jeans to my scrawny butt to keep the things up! The better half on the other hand is always struggling to control her weight, and everytime she changes diet, I lose weight!  Go figure....

Keep up the good work, and we're pullin' for ya!

Allow me to also Welcome you to Chordie!

England Dan was also known as Dan Seals and some of his music can be found here on Chordie.... however not that particular tune.
You may be able to find it elsewhere on the net under his given name, and as Roger suggested, if you are able to find a video of a performance somewhere post it and it is likely someone can come up with the chords for you.

Again Welcome Aboard

Hi John, if you go to the songs tab on the top of this page and search under M, you will find several versions:  or click this link----

Most tunes can be found with a little searching....  hope the one you are looking for is in there somewhere.

Good Info there Ian,  that's about all I could come up with as well.  I do wonder however if the GS designation refers to the woods?
Something like GS = German Spruce.... it wasn't mentioned in any of the reviews I found either, and like you said the website was of little help in giving up information that could be useful.  Many reviews I read from owners and publications did say that generally they were pretty good in the fit and finish department, which leads me to think that someone was writing good specs for their contractors.

Personally, I tend not to be too "snobbish" about guitars.... if it fits you and plays well, and has the sound that you enjoy, it's a good one.  What it's made of, where it came from, who stuck a brand on it matters little.

Welcome to Chordie!

How we do hate fretbuzz.... only thing is have you determined which string and where on the fretboard the offense is happening?
You say that you have adjusted up on the bridge, which one would think should cure it, but I'm thinking that the problem is likely to be a bit too much "back-bow" on the neck from things moving in the heat and humidity (or lack thereof).

Sight down the strings from the heel to nut while the thing is up to tune and you should be able to see if you have a bowing issue.  If so a bit of a truss rod adjustment should put it right.  You might consider hauling it in to your local Luthier for a setup if you are not familiar with doing adjustments on your own, as just a little goes a long way.  Most techs will give you an idea of what is wrong and an estimate before going at it, and most will include a new set of strings in the deal.  Around these parts that service usually goes for around $45 depending on if it needs a nut filing or fret dressing to cure a high fret wire.

PRS is a good quality instrument and one would not think that anything major should have happened (unless you tossed it down a flight of stairs or somesuch).

Take Care, and don't be a stranger hereabouts.

I was going to leave this one alone.....  But does anyone know how much it costs the American Taxpayers to fund the Secret Service Details that watch over our living "Past Presidents"?   How about the "retirement stipends" for all the politicians that no longer hold office?  Or the medical expenses they incur as part of the "Public Employees" benefits package?  Who foots the bill for scraping the Pidgeon Poop off of all the Monuments and Buildings in D.C.?

Seems we all have our little crosses to bear.....

Love the titles and am looking forward to the finished product.

Not to worry though, from the reviews I've seen here on Chordie, you can expect more "raves than rants" with a bit of constructive criticism tossed in for good measure.

Well I tell you Tony, you've chosen wisely.

Either of those will do the job for you.  Naturally Fender has all that reputation behind them and they do turn out a fine product, but personally I like the Behringer equipment I have used..... for the bucks a better deal in my mind.  Behringer is either using Bulgara or Jensen speakers depending on the amp and both are fine.  Now I do love the tube sound of my old Fender amp, but go to the Bhringer more often than not for all the effects and not having to wait for the darn thing to warm up before it starts screaming.

Best thing would be to grab your guitar and wander down to your local dealers and spend a little time playing through each of them , then make your decision.

Sad day in Seattle....  The Seahawks were humbled by Denver.  So much for a good start this year 1-1-0.  San Diego this coming weekend, and darn it! It's supposed to be sunny, so those Southern Californians don't have to play in the wet & cold.

Ain't these new electronical thingies wonderful?

The cool thing about the USB interface is that it often will identify itself to the operating system and then the appropriate driver is either loaded from the library (within Windows) or it will run home to Mama (the internet) and search for it there.  Just to be on the safe side though I'd be sure to visit the Xitel home webpage and see if it is possible to gather up a copy of the driver for your operating system and install it prior to plugging the thing in, so you can be assured that it will be recognized and operable.

Been having issues with this new version of windows myself with not having updated compatible drivers for all my devices....
getting by on bare-bones sound etc.  a real pain.

Sounds like a cool device though and would appreciate a short review on it if you find time and inclination.

Hi Gerald,

Generally the Silk & Steel will be as mellow as they get, with the 80/20 Phosphor Bronze at the other end of the scale being very bright and what I use on my huge bodied 12 string.  For my shallow Ovation, I prefer the 85/15 Phosohor Bronze to get a bit more bottom out of the instrument, and of those, like a Bluegrass mix consisting of heavier bottoms and light tops to get the bass up to a balanced tone.

Hope that helps a little.

Good weekend for Football around here....  Been raining for three days straight!

Sorry Cam, as you predicted with the support of Jerome, Alabama TRASHED Duke 62 to 13.

We had two NCAA games within easy driving distance here yesterday.  Oregon State vs Portland State (cross-conference) which is almost within walking distance (but not).... Portland might just as well saved the fuel and not bothered, lost 69-0. U of Oregon is only 45 miles South, and beat Louisiana 35-28.  Traffic was a mess!  A friend went up to Portland yesterday and it took 6 hours round trip & it's only 85 miles each way!

My Seahawks are in Denver this afternoon, so we'll see.... only a couple hours to kickoff.

I used to support the Rams when they were still in LA, then "adopted" Kansas City, but support my Northern Neighbors these days.

Jerry is correct..... The English know their beers!  There are some that just don't do well cold, one I remember was Stingo.  Dark thick as syrup and nasty ice cold, but at slightly below room temperature outstanding!

Jerome is here in the Pacific Northwest and we take great pride in our "micro-breweries".  Like the UK we have pubs with in-house brewing and some are very good.... most of them actually, or they'd be out of business.

I quit drinking awhile back, but still can remember appreciating the craft and the results.  My downfall was Single Malt distilled spirits.

Cheers!

I think Ian is on the right track there.  "your songbook" is really just a link to another data file which is basically an index of the songs you have elected to include in your "book".  The pages of which, are in themselves only links to files that are hosted on other sites, which are retrieved and formatted for your viewing pleasure in a uniform manner.  The best way to get a copy is to print a hard copy of each individual tune you want to retain, because Chordie does not have those files anywhere on it's server.  Your songbook is at the mercy of whatever sites which are hosting the songs individually, and if for some reason they are shut down, your links to them would be lost as well.

School supplies are on sale now so it is a good time to invest in paper ink and a couple binders to put it all in.

Good effort Tops!

I made it a whole week once......  right up until my lovely "spousal unit" threw a pack at me and hollered "Quit being such a bastard!".

I guess it made me a little irate or something.

Hang in there, and your body will heal itself if there's no damage done so far.

Hey Russell,

Avoid the LG Voyager series...  the front touch screens are really fragile!  Mine cracked from sitting in the sun at 4 months, and it wasn't warranty covered.... "you must have pushed too hard or hit it against something".  Naturally I have insurance on it, but I have waited until the screen is so bad that you can't see the numbers to dial, and now I'm going to get a new one.  Here's hoping they have got past that weakness (there were lots of postings in the forums for that issue).  Blackberry phones require a data plan (additional cost), and really the LG smart-phones do too to get the most out of the features.  Seriously thinking about Anderoid as an alternative because of the software available that is not based on the BREW (Java derived) operating system, Verizon has locked BREW to the point that you HAVE to buy apps from them at greater cost than others out there. The strongest suit LG has is long battery life though..... something in the neighborhood of 10 days of standby.

HTC makes some nice phones also worth looking into.

Just my $.02

Got nothing against Macs myself.... in fact started out on a Mac Classic (long time ago in the stone age for you youngsters).  Anyway had a collision with a PowerMac and buggy OS upgrade that about drove me insane, so jumped ship to the PC crowd.  We've been building our own from parts ever since..... kind of like ordering from the menu at a Chinese Joint, " Ill have the case and powersupply from collumn A, mainboard and processor from B, video card from D, etc.

Then naturally, some "Microserf" decides that we need a new operating system and all those high-zoot components you gathered over the last couple of years are no longer supported in the "new operating system" and none of the drivers work properly so you get to start over again!

But there is an up-side.... PCs cost less, and the boys in Redmond are trying their best to make Windows work as close to Mac OS as humanly possible without getting their pants sued off, so the learning curve is getting steeper!

Hi Russell,

OK got it, you want to un-hook from Roadrunner.... and you think you have an unsecured wifi host somewhere within range?  You might check your laptop and see if it has wireless capabilities.  If so you will likely have to turn on the "antenna" and ask your laptop to search for available networks within range, it should bring up a list of connections if any exist and tell you if they are secured or open (ie public access) like down at the local Starbucks.  If there's one out there you can then connect to it, and give it a test drive to see if it is fast enough for what you need.

After that  (if all goes well) you could then install a wireless network card in your desktop, or plug in a USB dongle and choose that as your preferred device on startup.  Then repeat the search (like you did with the laptop) and you should be in business.
Then you can call the cable boys and have the internet services terminated and get the adjustment to your cable bill accordingly.

We run a large wireless network here at the house and even with everyone online it sure seems fast enough for the 7 clients we are supporting..... well except for the Googletalk issue of mine  that still hasn't corrected itself.   If it seems confusing, shoot a query in Devon's direction and I'm sure he can assist.
