Fossilized Mammoth Ivory can add sustain, volume, and a transparent richness to your guitar, with an increase in harmonics & overtones!

Tusq can add a moderate amount of treble, sustain, clarity & volume to your guitar.

Bone offers everything Tusq provides, but in bigger doses.

Fossilized Walrus Ivory provides the greatest increase in volume, sustain & clarity among all the choices.

This was designed to show the diffrence in tone by changing bridge pin materials but the same rules should apply to saddle materials. Your biggest diffrence will come from the saddle. The bridge pins offer only a very slight change. The exception would be brass...Brass pins make a noticable diffrence in tone. A little too bright for my personal taste but others seem to like them. I usually favor either bone or ebony pins and a bone saddle. The ebony adds a bit of warmth and low end. Hope some of that was helpfull...Peace! -Pix

Someone posted this link awhile back on strumming and I bookmarked it  http://www.grouptherapy.guernsey.net/strumming.html   If you scroll down a bit you get to the actual patterns for the songs and an mp3 audio sample to carry you through the patterns.

Hey badeye, This is what's called ageing. The darkening is in relation to uv light exposure. The more exposure a guitar gets  to uv rays the quicker it will darken. As far as it sounding better...I'm sure your improving but all guitars with at least a solid top will open up over time. This is caused by two factors. The first is of course age, the wood dries out and the sap begins to crystalize allowing the top to vibrate more freely. Age alone will not cause a guitar to open up though. It's the combination of the ageing and the vibration of the top from being played. Many even believe that if you take a guitar that has opened up and store it for long perods it will go back to sleep.  They've even developed machines to open up a guitar. I believe they are most commonly referred to as tumblers. It's a device that can be mounted in the guitar to vibrate it at the same rate as being played so that it opens up more quickly. This technique receives mixed reviews and I'm not recommending it. I just thought I'd throw it in for interest. However I do keep my cased acoustics close to my amps....I'm not saying it helps but it can't really hurt for them to vibrate to whatever I'm playing at the time...Peace! -Pix

Well done! A very usefull addition to an already wonderfull site! Much appreciated Per and Ken!

I'm considering a trade offer I received... He wants to trade a Taylor 314E. I've been looking at the grand auditoriums for a while but have never played the Taylor 314. Anybody have any thoughts on them?

I have learned all of these songs from www.kickstartguitar.com - The person that teaches does not sing the song so its all about the way you play it.

Good site recommendation! This guy is a friend of mine and he sponsers chordie on his site. He's Lazyfret on youtube if you'd like to check his page there also for tutorials. Peace!

I've decided To sell my (like new) Seagull Artist Studio Rosewood. All solid woods and in mint condition..No issues!! I posted it in the classifieds of anouther forum but wanted to give the fellow Chordians a chance. Here's a link to the classifieds post http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/foru … p?t=122346 I'd be willing to cut any fellow chordians a slightly better deal...If anyone is interested just let me know...Thanks!

This may be temporary but for the last 10-15 minutes I haven't been able to get to chordie. And now that I'm here only the forum is available to me. Previously when I tried to access the site I got this message on the chordie page

Warning: mysql_query() [function.mysql-query]: Unable to save result set in /var/www/chordie/include/functions.inc on line 359
mySql reports: Got error 12 from storage engine

This query was executed:
select ID from songbook where owner='Guitarpix' and songbookname='acoustic'

Now when I try to go to any section of the site other than the forum I get the same message.
I just wanted to let Per know about it incase it's relevant to the ongoing changes.... Peace!

I have a Hughs & Kettner Montana Acoustic amp. It's a 60 watt 2 channel amp. Mine has performed flawlessly. I've been happy with it for the money.

Currently I'm really enjoying playing" Go On" from Jack Johnsons new album. It's easy to play and has a great beat to it. Aside from that one, I always enjoy playing "Steal My Kisses" by Ben Harper. It always seems to put me in a good mood and leaves me wanting to play more. On those mellow days I tend to play Jimmy Buffets "Pirate at 40" throughout the day.

Hey Tops, G strings are the smallest diameter string on the guitar and therefore the easiest to break.  I don't really know what else to tell you except maybe to lighten up a little or move up to mediums or custom lights. You can use a pencil to mark the grooves in the nut and also run it across the saddle a few times. The graphite will lubricate the string slidding in these areas and possibly help with the problem. I do this to all mine as it helps when fine tuning (this string doesn't all of a sudden jump from flat to sharp) It slides easily and tunes properly...Just an idea... Also check for burrs in those areas.  I feel your pain though having to put the g strings on repeatidly...It kinda goes against what we guys are used to...lol I've always preffered taking them of myself...lol Peace!
