Dude,   helps if we know where your at.

I like to see some versatility in a band,  The Beatles were great for this, all four sang,  three great song writers, and all played multiple instruments.
I have no problem with the singer just singing, if he has the voice and stage presence to pull it off.  I really can't imagine Robert Plant, Mick Jagger, or David Lee Roth, playing guitar  through an entire show,  something would be lost in the performance.

This is going to sound funny , but I think it's both .
I get so tired of hearing about all these second and third generation actors and singers , who say it's in their
blood . It's crap , anything can be learned . When the process is started before you're four years old , I'd say you definitely have a leg up ???

LOL, having the family connections doesn't hurt either.

You might try looking while your down in Central America,  or if you go through Mexico.  I've heard you can get some great bargains on guitars there.

I use a spring style dunlop,  It's quick and easy to use,  I've never had tuning issues, and I can just clamp it to the head stock when it's not in use.

how about
Zepplin + Black Sabbath = Metallica
Beatles + Hank Williams = The Eagles

CAVEAT EMPTOR.  Doc, some cliches are so old they're in Latin.  It goes double on Ebay.   Even an expert can get taken when going off pictures for an online auction.

It was the mix of R&B and Country music played by Elvis, Bill Haley and the Comets,  Jerry Lee Lewis, and their contemporaries.  That was first Labeled Rock and Roll.  It was later used as a marketing term to include Black R&B artists such as Fats Domino and Little Richard so their music could be sold to white kids.

Before Rock and Roll, Jazz was the devils music,  before that Blues,  and their were other genres before that I'm sure.  Whenever and wherever someone is enjoying himself, there is someone else who feels the need to stop it, in order to save his Immortal soul.

as for the first Rock and Roll song try this

Chuck Berry,  his guitar licks have been  played, and copied for the last 50 years.

there are plenty of Female players with solid rock cred, Chrissy Hynde  Bonnie Raitt,  Melissa Ethridge, and Sheryl Crow come to mind,  but very few in Heavy metal and Hard rock  Nancy Wilson from Heart, and   Lita Ford are all I can think of.

John lee Hooker used to vamp around the E chord for many songs,  Bruce Springsteen's born in the USA is in just B and B/E

I find the spring style, are faster to put on and make changes with. They can also clamp on to the headstock when not in use.  You should be able to pick up a good one for under 20 bucks.

You may just need the frets crowned,  any good repair shop can do this,  they can also replace frets if necessary.  You can ask other musicians in your area where they go for repairs,  but most mom and pop style shops can do it, or will refer you to someone who can.

playing simple, Popular tunes that everyone knows will help,  but don't stop singing yourself.   It may take some time, but it will become easier.

Wild thing, by the Trogs, and Blitzkrieg Bop, by the Ramones,  are relatively easy.
Your best bet is to take some of your favorite songs and play them using barre chords,  almost every three chord rock song can be played this way.

hey Doc.

Led Zeppelin is a great place to start.   many of their songs
(especially the ones off their first five albums) have easy to intermediate licks and riffs.

Dude, Hendrix changed the way every one played Rock guitar after him.  He played his whole rig not just the instument.  He introduced the Power Trio to Rock.  And he brought a level of Theatrics to playing that was just not there before.
