Strange how things pan out. It sounds like a fantastic opportunity to do something with the family and I look forward to hearing the result.
Roger
I have the older big brother to yours and I connect to my laptop with a twin RCA to a mini stereo jack lead. All my recordings have been done in this manner.
Roger
**Edit to add**
From you last comment does your laptop not have mic, line-in and speaker jacks? If not there are RCA to USB cables available on the internet.

Three years ago I organised a collaboration for a song called "Wrapped in Happiness" and afterwards I wrote the longest post I have ever written describing the ups and downs of the project. I hope it might help: http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=9844

It has always been my understanding that a high input is for a guitar with passive PU's and a low input is for one with active ones.
So a normal electic guitar would plug into the high and an electro acoustic (with a battery and pre-amp) would go into the low input some as not to overload the amp.

Nice to make your acquaintance Keith, enjoy Chordie, and make yourself at home.
Roger
Incredible photography!!
Nice to have you join us. Welcome to Chordie.

- lack of recording equipment and a general disgust of hearing myself prevents me from posting.
Jeff, because we normally hear ourselves talk and sing internally and not solely with our ears, a recording then sounds like a stranger and it does take some getting used to. Rest assured if you sounded awful Toney is honest enough to tell you, so don't be so down on yourself.
Roger
It's faster if you learn to play and sing a new song all together.
Work out the chords, write them in red above the lyric syllable where they hit. Then figure the phrasing of the lyrics - usually accents in lyrics occur where the chord changes. Mark extra accents as well.
Then start singing and strumming along with the video. Repeat as necessary.
Toots, with respect I have to disagree with your comment. This is a spoken vocal and the phrasing is not in sync with the music, he has tried and has not been able to learn them together.
Roger
The only way to master this is to be able to play the music without thinking about it.
One of the exercises I go through with my students is to get them to play a simple chord progression, say G, Em, C and D, whist holding a conversation about anything at all. I will play along with them to start off with but drop out when they seem to be coping. Not the easiest of exercises but it is fun.
Roger
Well done Jeff. The first time is always the most frightening and particularly to go solo, had it been a duet with Toney it would have been far easier, but not so rewarding.
So get a mic, plug in at home and keep the neighbours awake while you get used to it. ![]()

Not knowing the song Alice's Reastaurant, I have just looked and found it on YouTube but every version I heard was spoken and not sung. Can you give me a link to the version you are trying to sing?
Roger
Great to hear a recording of this song and I may be mistaken but is that a 12er that Rebargirl is playing?
Roger
Nice chord progession and it flows well. I enjoyed playing and singing it but as usual I would like to hear a recording of how you meant the song to sound.
Roger
There are some ongoing upgrades to Chordie being performed at present to eliminate the slow response and occasional lock-out we have been experiencing. It is possible that there may be an odd hiccup over the next few weeks but they should be short lived.
Roger
Welcome to Chordie Scott,
I see you have already found the Recording section and met Russ, Jerome and Ark. You have a great collection of gear listed there and I have to say that I am rather envious of the Fender 12er
.
Enjoy Chordie,
Roger
Well done Amy,
You have a great voice and certainly play guitar more than good enough to be abe to accompany yourself so I am not surprised that you went down well. The next one will be easier so get down to the open mic session and do your stuff, but be sure to report back here to us.
Roger
Good for you Jim, I am sure you will go down a storm.
However it might be an idea to deliberately throw a few mistakes in the last couple of numbers, just to make sure that they are not so mesmerized and enthralled that that they go and lock the doors to keep you there for a week or two
.
Roger
Happy NGD and belated Happy Birthday. Nice find.
Roger
Welcome Kajir,
Nice collection of guitars (and stuff). Don't forget we do have a Poetry section for you to display your handywork.
Roger
Nice one Phill, mind you it took me ages to find out how to hear it on 'soundclick' but it was worth it great recording and song obviously written especially for me. ![]()
Thank you.
Roger
As is usual for me I played your song (after checking up on a couple of chords
) but much preferred to hear your recording, some great guitar work there.
Well done,
Roger
It is great to have the chance to play and sing an original song and then listen to how much better it sounds when performed by the composer.
Great song, great voice well done.
Roger
