Welcome Oldman. As you can see we've all been on a lifelong journey, learning all the way. Sounds like you have the drive and dedication to take you a long way down this path. That's what it takes drive dedication, devotion and the love of music. I agree you are where you should be with your skills. You will progress when you feel ready for the next step. You progress every day you pick up your instrument. Sounds like you've come along way in a short amount of time. be proud of what you've accomplished and continue the journey.

Russell, Congrats. I love those Gibson electrics. Have fun , lets hear some of your recordings with your new toy. You always have enough guitars until the next beauty 'rounds the corner.

Joe

I want to hear it too. Great concept. keep on writing, keep them coming.

Beamer, Hang in there. This economy sucks, you have a lot of folks who know how it feels and are behind you. My wife went thru this twice and the company she's with now has been letting people go the last two months and probably more to come. Your Chordie family is here when you need us.

During the 60's and 70's and part of the 80's  there were a lot of bands that made it big. They made it big by having unique sounds or songs. And then some King Midas in the music industry knew he could make some big bucks off these bands and signed them. They both made money but , Midas made the Lion's Share off the recording. He took big bucks from the listeners and the bands. Today there are a lot more "indies" recording music- That's a good thing. The indies get more exposure than the Big Record companies would have given them. They have more control over their own music. That wouldn't have happened with the BIG Record companies.  Unfortunately there will be fewer and fewer Big artists  signed to big name labels. In fact many labels no longer exist. The music industry has changed completely from it's heyday of megabands. Some for the good - some not so good.

Cholly,
One thing more I'd like to mention. If you don't know a lot about guitars get someone you know who does ,to go with you. They can look over the guitar and make sure it is good playing condition and no repair issues need to be addressed. The 814ce is very high end Taylor.  If it's a good deal as you say then it will have a good resale value for you should you decide to sell.

As Zurf said both are great guitars. I currently own two Martins and two Taylors. Taylor 314ce is my workhorse I love it. My T5 is great with 5 different pickup sounds. Both play very easy and battery changing is the easiest, you don't need to remove strings to change battery. I also had a 714ce which was also a very nice guitar. Can't go wrong with a Taylor. I've owned many Gibson electrics but no acoustics. Still Gibsons are great. I think Taylor has many more affordable guitars. But try them both as many models as you can. The right one will make your decision for you. Enjoy the experience.

Les Paul passed away 5 years ago today at age 94. He was still playing gigs in New York City at that age. A remarkable man who designed one of the most Iconic guitars the world has ever seen. Not only a talented musician his other inventions that helped musicians were ,  guitar pickups, effects pedals, multitrack recorders and a lot more. What would today's music scene be like without Les Paul. Thanks Les. I wish I'd never sold my 1969 Les Paul Standard.

A terrible loss of such a great talent. One of the true comics of his generation. Every interview I ever saw with Robin, he would just run off in his own direction. Often leaving the interviewer to ask  "Who's doing the interview". RIP.

I know what it's like. Many times I've done the four hour straight gig, No breaks. Then someone says just one more . One more turns into one more hour. Doing a solo gig that's a lot of work. By the end of the night you can't get off the stool. Oh yea, hand cramps and your throat feels like sandpaper. We surely don't get paid near enough , but we wouldn't want to stop either. Cheers to all the musical road warrior's out there.

Congrats on your project. Songwriting is very rewarding. It's hard to believe that these idea's are deep in our minds and they seem to work themselves out in such a pleasing fashion. Keep on writing.

T.F.  Sigma-Oh I forgot about them. I had a Sigma 12 string many years ago and it was a very nice guitar. I've seen their site on the net and have wanted to play a new one for a long time. I think this is a good choice, I think you'll really enjoy it. Congrats !!!!!

T.F don't know which Taylor you looked . That's into the mid price range. Just looked online at the Taylor 150E. It would fit well into your budget.
Has the ES pickup and gig bag. I'm going to check one out too. I don't need a 12 but you can't have too many guitars.

I  sent my recently recorded CD to the Western Music Association's Magazine "The Western Way. They have a Radio personality do Reviews of all newly released CD's sent to them. Not sure how it would be accepted or if it would get a review I took my chances anyway. Even though I have written songs for three complete CD's I haven't been to confident lately of my music doing much. Well I got my copy of the magazine last week. My CD had made the reviews. Rick Huff the reviewer picked six out of my twelve songs as picks off the album. As a songwriter he said " I must be a songwriter of long practice or a natural". He also said Pick up the CD it's worth the gamble. I'm flying high with that review. So if you are not sure about your songwriting skills take it from me, Keep on writing . Someone out will notice what your doing. If they noticed my material it can happen to you. Persistence pays off. I still can't believe it.

T.F. Taylor has a new 12 string model out. Cost is below a grand and it has a factory ES system. I haven't played one yet but if you get a chance try one out. I have 2 Taylors and I really like them. Just a suggestion.
