There is a  lot to think about in that song especially now when people all around the  world are in a In a long line leading to the providers door. Most countries now have behind certain doors admission's only guaranteed to the favoured few. Long waiting lists and plenty more.  Necessities costing more and more.

Interesting song Jim.  John Prine had an interesting way of storytelling in song
That juxtaposition of peace and murder. Trying to save a marriage and maybe catch a few fish. The desecration of a peaceful place. Relationships, history, love, food, nature and water interesting how he covers it all in one song. I love that verse in that song.
The dogs were barking as the cars were parking
The loan sharks were sharking, the narcs were narcing
Practically everyone was there
In the parking lot by the forest preserve

That would have to be one of the best modern day single man blues songs that I know of.

So true this song you can't beat Wellington on a good day.. Clever story line girl working for government and so on and of course the chorus.

I thought I would have a go at playing Alt Country on my guitar. Then the idea came into my head what would my playing sound like with a different style of vocal a fusion of two styles. Most probably didn't work out but I thought I put it up on here anyway.

Thank you Piri.   Though I know you mean it in a different way, I couldn’t see myself being a rent boy even though as a teenager I had an infatuation with a lady who if she had been my girlfriend it would have made me a toyboy.

Cheers Richard, I’m not sure what happened with the "Tea" song Vanessa wrote with Ben. I came across that video after been introduced to a Vanessa Forero song “Beautiful Blue” that resonated with me while grieving a family death. Her song felt appropriate and spoke to my emotional pain in a way that made sense to me. My younger self could have embraced living in a area like the ones she is in but obviously it would have been me earning my living in a different way. I will attach a link to her song “Beautiful Blue”.

Peatle, that was a clever way to write and perform a song.  You had the old man and the young man responding to the audience.  Very clever, well done smile

Thank you Jan I was a bit worried that my attempt at trying to do something a little different might be pushing my simple idea in a direction that just wouldn't have any musical merit.

Jim, this is a real good song though I thought you had better vocal phrasing in your first version. That doesn’t really matter though as you are a far better singer than I would ever be and also a gifted song writer.

Cheers Richard thanks for your feedback on my song. I was trying to use my voice to make separate characters I'm not sure if I got the old man frailty right in my voice. Then I was also trying to make my voice sound younger in the other parts of the song. It's more of a mix of my guitar a monologue and a song. It's good to hear you putting something up as well. The tide around here seems to be dragging people away from chordie at the moment.  I hope some others give FSOTM a go.

This is my entry for February it is called "The Old Man Likes In Tune".  The concept is an old man talking about himself and other people talking about him.

Richard that was a good interview and the recording of you singing and playing The sound engineer had everything balanced perfectly.

Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones  plays his six-string guitars with only five strings and an open G tuning , While he plays with only 5 strings, he uses a slightly heavier set of strings, usually sets of.011 to.042 where the.042 is the fifth string. Richards's favoured open tuning is a five-string open G tuning: GDGBD

Jan your a natural born musician good to hear your excellent version of two great party songs from the 60/s.

Richard, good to see you on chordie doing some gigs with your own songs. Was that gig inside a garage?

Socialbar I see you have also snuck Grandad in there this is a a clever bit of writing. Hope to see more of you on chordie welcome.

Hi Richard, growing up at home in New Zealand we had a Phillips Radiogram that had only Am radio and a record player. Back in those times there was only three local radio stations  in our area all on short wave.  Later on in the 70's radio transferred more to FM and also we had more radio stations. Some older people still had their old gramophones.when I was a kid. When we lived in Fiji late 50's early 60's in Fiji many of my relations played records on the old-style windup gramophones. Also many used peddle sowing machines.in Fiji when I was a kid and kerosene lamps for lighting at night. I think the problem with many an old gramophone was the needles tended to be a bit harsh on records. My mum who was born in 1920 all her life called anything even if was a stereo a gramophone player.

Happy New Year Mojo  good to see you back on here. An old song of yours but still a good one that has stood the test of time.

My relationship with guitars is a weird one. As a child guitars were always there in my family home, To cut a long story short round about 2014   Easy beat Brian gave me a guitar so I have tried to play it but not that successfully. The good thing for me was finding chordie  through EB  this has encouraged me to try and play guitar. Also I have now a good online relationship with some of the best people on this planet.

Good one Richard you're a real trouper. It is good to hear you doing a great song by an Australian song writer and troubadour that has been covered and made popular by my many a well-known musical artist  that has meaning too many. around the world.

Jan, Thank you I am glad you liked my effort. I hope your having a good holiday season. I am hoping some others will have a go at this. To change things around a bit I decided to have a go at making some artwork for this video using my computer. Yes, it is my artwork. Wishing you and your family all the best for 2024.
