Being a chick, I learned to play mostly because I started listening to zeppelin and
ACDC, and im like whoa, gutiars sound awesome! I was raised in the 90's, very not rock n roll. Then you hear the old stuff and you're like, hey what happened to this? I'm also a writer, so a guitar is a great, and easy way to some up with song ideas. Like SG, I also found myself hooked on blues, just because it sounds neat. Playing blues is also pretty awesome because almost ALL rock guitarists base their stuff on blues!
but yea... rock on class of '11!

hey, the idea for this song is definately better than "they think my tractor's sexy" by kenny chesney. (it is a real song, i looked it up!)

I see it now... rising from the alley behind Giant Eagle, at first a mear shadow in the eyes of society...

hey maybe in a couple decades you'll have people gossiping like
"they say he could wrangle 300 carts, and thin slice the deli meat by hand without looking..."

yup, this could definately go places

haha i do bring up a lot of subjects dont I? I enjoy hearing people's opinions, especially the people here on chordie. The community here is diverse and doesn't really argue a lot. So, yes, i enjoy making you guys think ,and answer my questions. Without you guys i would have probably given up on guitar months ago! thanks for your, tips, tricks, opinions, and even general rambling!

okay, sorry if i sound stupid, but when you say pickup, do you mean like a humbucker pickup? (how do i put that on an acoustic?) Or is there something else?
i want to get the mic and the uca-202. They seem like good values.
thanks!

hmm... it must be hard to push all those things, especially in the summer. Sometimes at wal-mart they have electronic vehicles that the cartguy just stands on and steers, and it pushes the carts for him, i see that and i think of how terrible it is that he probably gets paid just as much as the guy at at kmart who has to push those things across the parking lot himself... o yea the song! it's great, really fun. i improvised a yodel as well, it fits in with the song pretty well lol.

they need to have cart snake downhill derbies.

A couple people have told me that the reason kids my age, 13-14-15 have started playing guitar is because a lot of music we hear today just isn't that great, and we think we can do better. I mean, I do have a lot of respect for some modern musicians (some indie stuff, nine inch nails, jack johnson etc.) , but I have a lot more respect for past guitarists/bands. Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, even Bob Dylan. You just don't hear stuff that good anymore. If you go on sites like myspace you can still find some awesome guitarists, but it seems like people don't wanna hear it anymore. I'd much rather listen to someone busting out an awesome solo on their cheap Epi SG, than listen to Fergie spelling glamourous... or tastey... or delicious, or whatever. I go to school every single day, I dont need a hip hop musician teaching me to spell, I need to learn licks, scales and chord progressions. So I encourage people my age to pick up a guitar and show the world that rock n roll is not dead.

okay, I meant to post this as a "what's your opinion?" kinda thing but it turned into a public service announcement, sorry. Do you think that that it the reason so many kids of this generation are picking up guitars?

Welcome to Chordie a.k.a the best guitar site/community on the net,
A good country song by Lucinda Williams, also preformed by Tom Petty, called "Change the Locks." Two chords, G and D, one strum like

i change the [G](strum) locks on my front[D](strum)door

pretty simple, heres the whole song, but it just repeats those same chords

Good Luck, Rock on, and don't be afraid to ask us anything!

ok... I'm looking at one that seems pretty nice but it says it cancels out background noise... will this make my guitar sound really soft

I'm also considering renting out a local recording studio for $25 an hour. This includes the actual recording, and mastering, plus two master CD's along with access to over 50 vintage guitars no extra charge.

wow so many options!
thanks so much for your help!

I've written a couple songs and want to get them out there, and I was wondering what I should use to record them. I want something I can hook up to my PC(to post on a myspace or something), and I don't want to spend more than $100 (I don't need anything fancy) I looked on musicians friend, and there is a huge selection of hardware and software, but I'm not sure of what I need and what I don't.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys, I'll be sure to post some more stuff. As for recording my songs I'm going to try to get some equipment to do it. when I do I'll post the URL on here. I'm probably going to use myspace or youtube unless you have any suggestions. phil, you asked about my style, and to tell you the truth it changes everyday, but I try to stick mostly with pop/rock and a bit of country. This song turned out to be more of a sheryl crow sounding tune.
Thanks again!

i wouldn't say this is my favorite piece of music, but it was the first song i learned to play the whole way through. "wish you were here" by pink floyd. it's a sad song, but it's pretty too. i remember sitting out on my front porch just playing that, because it was the only song i knew

okay here's a scenario:

you've been practicing stairway to heaven for about two hours and just cant seem to get a couple parts down smooth. so you practice for another hour before you finally realize you are going nowhere and put the guitar down for the day.

                      ***

the next day you're bored and pick up the guitar. you decide to try stairway again, and its perfect (well pretty close)

has this ever happened to anyone else? its crazy and almost makes me mad! makes me feel like that three prior hours of practice ws worthless! does anyone knows why this just suddenly happens?

i take weekly half hour lessons that i find very beneficial. just make sure you get a teacher that knows what they're doing. classical guitar (depending on what you play) can get kind of tricky and a tutor can help find little "loopholes" so to speak that can make a peice easier such as barring on a certain fret, or just arpeggiating a cord. teachers can also suggest certain exercises and things to practice to improve your playing.

Good Luck!

im 14 which has its ups and downs guitar wise, some people are surprised at how well i do play and others just keep telling me what im doing wrong! im surprised how many guys (even my age) think teenage chicks cant play. but whatever im sticking to my slogan:

who says chicks cant play jazz guitar?

down with stereotypes

rock on.

like cytania said, go to a shop near you and try out everything, well maybe not everything but you know what i mean. i personally like epiphone and ibanez. epiphone is a great begginers guitar with a good tone, decent pricing, and great durability. ibanez has great quality guitars, but their specifically designed for one thing, hard rock. the important thing is to get a guitar that you like and that you aren't going to get tired of to quickly. good luck and keep rockin!

wow! any idea how the hole got there? how disappointing, a friend of mine ordered a powerhouse strat (about $600) and it was broken in half when he got it. tons of papers and legal stuff on exactly whose fault it was. anyway, have fun with ur epi!

the first song i learned on my electric was hells bells by acdc, it's pretty easy... i don't think acdc is considered death metal...
