no editing, i just recorded the song so i wouldnt forget the tune...(it's an age thing) so i record them quickly, but i thought it stood up on it's own so i posted the vid.
i do intend to work on the song and produce a better sound etc.
glad you like it, there's another in the pipe-line, which if i can get it right will be a much better song.

hello roger, yes i've always been a southpaw on guitar and shooting a gun. righty when writing and either way batting at cricket or boxing! i'm just a crazy mixed up kid? sorry about the Bb zurf!
hi jeff, thanks my friend. when you dont have time to record a song properly it's easy to put the camera on and record that way (so i dont forget how the damn thing goes) old age don't come alone!

i can so identify with this song having been unemployed for a year. luckily(?) i'm back in the saddle.
what i hate is that question on the application form that says; "why do you want this job?" what answer can you put down? cos i want to feed my family? cos i hate being unemployed? i just want a job, i dont care what it is?

I recorded the song in the key of "B", I used a capo on the 5th frett and transposed to"G" for convenience...aren't I nice?

you can say what you like about the queen, (without fear of getting your head chopped off, or disappearing like they do in certain parts of the world) she is more concerned about us commoners than a lot of the government and civil servants (surely a contradiction in terms) and the rich people who only tolerate us so that we can do their bidding, eg: go to war as cannon fodder, or work until we drop in their sweat shops.
but surely this isnt just a UK phenomenon oh no, it's world wide. even you americans who "threw" us brits out (and we thank you for that) have the same "have/have nots" in society.
so you cant really knock the queen being a figure head and being paid an obscene amount of money for doing the job.
on the other hand, prince charles who is first in line for the throne, takes no money from the civil lists. he lives on the rents from his property, i believe.
we are all put on this earth for a purpose, what it is only time will tell

i had this problem for a short while some years ago, it started when another guitarist hit my hand with his head-stock as we were going on stage. hurt like hell when i played.
my father had a trick which i'll pass on, he used to wrap some wool (the stuff used for knitting) around his wrist about 6 or 7 times, loosely to give his hand more strength. i used a leather wrist brace for a while. now i dont have the problem any more...touch wood!

i've just found this post. i have to say that when i was a kid in the 50's, my family had no musical leanings at all. my father was a lorry driver, and he used to whistle to drown out the engine noise! sadly he couldnt manage two notes in the same key!
my sister was sent to piano lessons, which she chucked as soon as she could. we had a piano, which i messed about on, but it got sold and i had to wait 15 years to buy my first guitar with money from my paper round. later i bought an electronic keyboard and learned to play it by ear, same as i did the guitar, which explains why i dont play either very well.
my mother used to sing to me all the time, which is why i love singing i guess.
i enjoyed your story and thanks for sharing and evoking some memories i'd forgotten about.

by all means go to the shop and try their whole range out. i own a strat and a telecaster, also a copy. maybe cos i'm heavy handed, the strat loses tone and tune quickly. i'm not a fan of flat necked guitars eg gibson.
fender necks do tend to be narrower and concave. as i've said previously on this forum, i searched for months for a new guitar, resisting fervently a telecaster which was the last one i tried then bought! i was actually looking for an axe with a joy stick (trem) but fate stepped in.
my advice; dont buy until your absolutely certain that the guitar fits you down to the ground.

hi jeff,
having gone through this myself last year, the disbelief, the anger and finally the resignation! the factory and the job i thought would last till i retired in 6 years time closed and now is just level ground. i find i'm still very angry (and struggling to keep my language clean!)
i went though all the job applications, cv's etc. if i got to the interview stage i usually got offered jobs (but were total time wasters).
now a year on, i'm back in work, it's not satisfying or gratifying or what i was looking for. but it does get me out from under the wifes feet, and it pays the bills. i'm glad of that because mr cameron the new primeminister, would have robbed me as he will all the other poor saps on the dole and low payed and all the poor honest folk just as maggie thatcher did in the 80's and 90's. stop ranting phillip!
anyway, enjoy your free time while you can, cos somewhere just over the horizon another job is waiting for you, and you'll be too proud to refuse it like i was.
great song by the way, i did one along the same lines my self, but with more swear words in...great therapy!

sorry I haven't been around for a while, work at the moment is very demanding of my time. Thanks for all your great comments, and a big thanks to Russ for his encouragement, help and participation in this and all our collabs!
We do seem to be able to get what the other is wanting, with this one all I did was send Russ the 2 verses I had and asked him to come up with a chorus, bridge and riff....easy?
What Russ sent me back (my `puters playing up so we've got no video or chat at the moment) set my creative juices flowing and I came up with the last verse. By the by, I only sent Russ chord symbols no music, so it just goes to show how much we are "on the same page".
I'm looking forward to our next project.

i've always found that nylon strings as used on a classical guitar wont play on an electric through an amp, because they're made of nylon or (cat gut), very little or no metal.
steel strings as made for an acoustic guitar will play on an electric, not recommended though, as mentioned above, they do tend to be heavier therefor could warp the neck.
using a light guage string on an acoustic can produce it's own problems. if you tend to be a bit of a heavy strummer you may get more slap than tone!
further to roger's comment about flat wound strings in the 60's, the beatles used them up to the "revolver" album in 1966. listen to "i'm only sleeping" i loved the beatles, hated the flat sound on their acoustics. though georges lead riffs had that great twangy sound.

so true ark. i remember breaking my heart on the stairs, away from everyone, wishing i'd said "i love you" before my mother died. both my mam and dad are buried in my sisters garden (ashes) so i can visit almost any time. usually it's enough to know that they are there.

you don't get to my age with out knowing grief!
my holy trinity; my grandmother, mary-ellen (WRITTEN ABOUT SEVERAL TIMES), mabel (my mother) and dolly (my god-mother) 3 strong and loving women, all no longer with us, i miss them all and think about them as often as i can. i do believe that as long as you keep someone alive in your mind they may die but they never fade away....silly but that's how i feel.
my pillar now is ann my wife and my daughter gemma, they keep me grounded.
there are many others too, my father, my mate dai (david) and so many others, all passed. we will all meet again on the other side.
i haven't tried to put this to music yet....when i get time, i'll let you know.

have you thought of this new fangled invention called "the bus?" if you cant find what your looking for in your locality, try another town.
bit of advice;
dont buy a guitar cos you've fallen in love with it's looks. hold it, play it, feel it. then if it still measures up....buy it.
i was dead against a fender telecaster till i played one in a music shop (out-side my manor) so i bought it and the love affair continues....dont you just love happy endings?
