Someone (more talented than I) please transcribe this tune so we guitar players (and wanna-be's) can get our keyboard playing friends (or keyboard wanna-be friends) going to play this.  It sounds so fun.  hear a snipet at www.bethfitchetwood.com/Honk.htm.  Not sure where to get the rest, but even this portion would be fun.  E-mail empac99@yahoo.com if you do.  Thanks

I do have a youtube page but I just dont seem to have the time to maintain it with all the other activity im involved with, and myspace is really the only one I do maintain, I remember last year I deleted my youtube account and I dont remember why I opened it again, so with the new year I most likely will remove it again and concentrate on myspace thats enough. smile

zenbutcher I have performed in church solo with just a guitar or mandoline and its no different then any other gig people are people, just relax and sing from the heart I have a version of "away in the manger" on my web site there are at least four verses for it, and remember if your singing for the lord he forgives mistakes and bad chords smile

zenbutcher wrote:

and I'm a little nervous.  I asked for a day to think about it before answering, but here is my "knee jerk" reaction:  I feel obligated as a christian to help spread the message of Christ; and if that means playing guitar, then I should look at that as a blessing.

I am just wondering if any of you have advice on performing like this.  The premise will be:  a "live" manger setting in a barn with people dressed up.  I've been asked to play one song - "Away In A Manger".  Then, I suppose, we'll have a Sunday School lesson.  I don't know any of the particulars, such as if there will be power or anything.  But, I figure I can bring my acoustic, buy an "in-hole" pickup, and bring my amp.  That way, I am covered either way.  (I used to perform shows in a rock band using an acoustic/electric Takamine - now I have a straight acoustic Takamine).

I am thinking that if I do it, I would like to do some type of finger picking, chord and melody, all-in-one thing.  Similar to, say, a Willie Nelson style.  Thankfully, I won't be singing.

(edit)
.....Oh, and if anyone has a link to a strong chord/tab version for this song, it would be greatly appreciated.  I have already found a few examples on tab robot to incorporate.  They all seem to center around the key of C or G, which seems good since I could use some open strings to help support the chord structure.

My only other interest other then music and recording is Chess, I play corrispondence games with members of the chess community world wide and I have an extensive library of chess books,my latest additions are MCO 14 (modern chess openings) "my system" Aron Nimzovich and "modern chess strategy" by Ludek Pachman plus all of Bobby Fichers games and a host of other reference books,I ordered a tournament chess set from the chess store and the rollup green vinal board and pieces cost only $15 including shipping the squares are 2 1/2 inches and the king is 4 1/2 inches high, its the type used in all important tournaments smile

NOMINATIONS: OK we have to start somewhere so this is as good a place as any,I would like to nominate "Death and Paupers" by Lena O'Donovan (old doll) with a suggestion to mix the voice up over the music, its a little hard to understand all the words that's my only criticism, but I believe it would make a great contribution to this global project. smile

Al I have yet to recieve a reply regarding the use of animations but I do remember all the members had to remove theres so I believe that is the official policy,it was a necessary step taken to eliminate the use of lewd photos some sick people were posting on Chordie, they spoiled it for everybody smile

Saturday I redid the lead guitar parts for "another day" and I was able to finish the tracks in less then an hour I chose to use the pro tools plugins and they plugged me into the board I was amazed at all the effects and different amplifier sounds this board had,I selected a clean sound to start with because once the notes are recorded the effects can be added later. some other good news the party I went to was a blast, food drink and friends and the keyboard player who played on the session brought a karaoke machine and there were several rooms filled with music from musicians jammin to there wives singing on the karaoke machine and I asked them if they would play as a band on my sessions and they would have to do it free,I was pleasantly surprised when all of them agreed so it looks like I have a band to work with on my songs and all of them are really good musicians so I'm looking forward to the next session,I will use yousendit to upload the songs and they will email the persons I provide addresses for that a mp3 is ready to pickup and hold it for seven days....keep ya posted smile

getfiddle one of the "stickys" in the recording forum reads something like "members willing to help" and there is a list of producers select one and email this person and they will help coordinate the musicians and handle the recording, you will get a rough draft for your approval and if any changes or additions that you want to be included let this person know, its your song and you have the final say on it smile

I would be happy to contribute, just let me know when and who to send the song to.

It' looks like were in the same boat, I dont think anybody has a clear cut idea, I think whats important is that we kick around some ideas and go from there smile

getfiddle wrote:

I'm interested in contributing a song! One question. I don't have a band, so if I send a song, it will just be guitar and vocals. "In my mind", I'm not a very good singer. When you receive it, you can determine for yourself whether you want to use it or not.

I agree with Doug on this. why limit ourselves to only new ideas, as he has stated there are a lot of original songs from Chordie members that should be concidered as well as composing new material, and in this ever changing world the current events are repleat with ideas for songs be they protest or otherwise. smile
