I googled up James Burton and found his official site, he is my favorite guitarist, there are many who can play faster but Burton has a unique sound and ability to play solos that will never be forgotten and stand alone in his own special place.I was greatly influenced by him when I first started to get serious about music and guitar playing I watched him on the "Ozzie and Harriet"show play with there son Rickey Nelson on songs like "Mary Lou" and the licks or riffs he played were tight and clean and seemingly effortless, Kieth Richards gave the induction speech for him when he was inducted into the hall of fame and he still is kicking out songs with his own style so if you have some time read up on this exceptional musician. smile

Roger I didn't know they still mined salt useing manual labor, I dont think I would apply for a job in one old or young, there's no time table on your project and I agree on waiting for someone who offered to submit a part and cannot because of illness I'm sure the finished song will really be a good song and speaking of songs I have to get busy with some ideas because I will go into the studio this month to finish up "Another Day" and stat recording my newest ideas and with christmas around the corner I will be uploading my entire christmas CD of traditional songs and one of my own to mediafire for everyone on chordie and I hope it snows on christmas eve this year it really makes the day extra special smile

Andy Yes it is related to a progression,or a chord and its made up by what sound good for these chords or intro, its kinda like painting a picture whatever is pleasing to your eye is all that matters the same with a riff whatever's pleasing to your ear is all that counts smile

AndysMusic wrote:

Is the rif in any way related to the chord progression of the song or just made up by what sounds good?

hinder read the "sticky" on this forum it may help you, and by the way you have to include chords with your lyrics or its considered a poem and the powers that be on chordie frown on this smile

you came close with the chopro you have to use [ ] brakets and put song between them this starts the chopro its the "start" button and at the end of the song put [/song] this has to be in there there are no spaces between the [ song ] like this just pretend these are the [ ] brakets so its |song| to start only there [---] like this I like the song by the way smile

A riff can be a series of improv notes or a arranged solo like the beginning of 'Johnny b good or any short lead. george Harrison was good at riffs, simple melodic tidbits another guitarist who played lead with Ricky Nelson and on Elvis Presleys sessions Richard Burton excelled at riffs smile

Stephen you mentioned that some of the notes were not in "sync" were you refering to the tracks not alligned or the bad notes that were outside of the notes in the chord? if this was intentional why? its like someone scrapping there fingernails on a blackboard,up to that point it was a good recording but bad notes are still bad notes intended or not. there are some who will enjoy this concept im not one of them.

Just curious, when did the term "power chord" come into being? my early recollections of the word "power" was associated with the early "hard" rock sounds of groups like deep purple, zeppelin,Hendrix ect.. what gives this form the "power" over any D or A shaped bar position? smile

I was telling Doug earlier in a email you must be dog tired after working all day in the "salt mines" and come home and do the dinner thing and scratch the cat and work with this recording project so how long is this job going to last? I sure hope you get the money you deserve and get back to a happier regimen again smile

The knee is still extremely painful even with a knee support and plenty of painkillers. It has not been helped by spending a further day as a slave to a cement mixer, feeding it sand, cement and water and then having to whellbarrow away all it regurgitates. I even overworked the wheelbarrow and broke it today. This old dog does not give in easily lol

But to more important matters. "Wrapped in Happiness" is shaping up very well I am awaiting items from just a couple of people now. Hopfully it will not be long now before it is ready for public consumption.

Tough choice, but unknown results or possible complications and risks add up to danger to your health and life so given the choices I think you made the right one because new procedures and better equipment may take the risk factor down the discomfort you have to endure is not pleasent im sure but if you can deal with it its still a better choice.good luck with it smile

you could get a less expensive karaoke microphone or borrow a microphone and and use a female adapter 1/4 inch(guitar jack plug) to 1/8 inch mono plug from Radio Shack or any electronic department like best buy or office max and plug the mic chord into the adapter and into your sound card mic input in the back of your computer (if you dont have a mixer) but you will still need a program like audacity available from sourceforge.net to process the recording (its free) and I have some tutorials (also free) on how to use it.theres a link to the Audacity download site in the recording section here on Chordie and the link at the bottom of this post (mediafire) is where you can download the tutorials from my account, this program (audacity) is very useful for any future recording work you may wish to do smile

So hows the knee today? lifting wheel barrels full of bricks is not conducive to picking guitar and I sure wouldn't want your gig but its easy for me to say I'm retired and the heaviest lifting I have to do is take out the garbage lol but I can sympathise with you and I hope this is not a regular full time career Im tired just thinking of hard work lol

Thanks for the info and the link Randy but it gets a little expensive just registering one song the fee is the same if you put 20 or more on the CD but if your rolling in dough $35.00 a song is small change lol

Andy you just posted that question in the topic "creating chords" in this forum did you read the replys?

AndysMusic wrote:

What is a 'B' RIF and how do you play it?

(7 replies, posted in Songwriting)

you can google up the copyright office and theres a form you can fill out online the cost is $45.00 but I would wait till you had more songs to put on a cd because you have to send them 2 cd's the only protection is the date you sent the application theres more about protecting your songs and a copyright is the safest but if someone wants to steal what your writing concider it a compliment I dont think theres a whole lot you can do it you place them on the web for anyone to copy but maybe some other members have a few ideas that may help smile

Major or minor? you have to base a riff on the chord and you can choose from several different modes if its major you can use the relative minor of the chord or a part of the pentatonic scale it depends on if its blues rock country ect.. if its a minor chord there are several "modes" natural, harmonic ect..these are scales and you may want to inquire in the theory section of chordie for more information good luck smile
