3c - I know that part of Derbyshire well. My Mother lives nearby (well, more Chesterfield way), and I visit her several times a year. Lovely countryside and some nice rivers around there - would like to try and catch a grayling some time...
Chordians are always welcome around here!

I tell folks that my wife and I have been together 5 wonderful years - which gets me "the look" as we've been married 37 years.  I then explain that at least one day a week was wonderful and adding them up equals about 5 years - which gets me another dose of the "the look".

I like that, Ed! May well borrow that, at my own risk...

Many congratulations, Badeye!

Another "Englander" here - I live between Hastings and Rye, in damp but very green and picturesque East Sussex. Whereabouts are you? You are never alone on Chordie!

Good question/thread, btw, mr n!

Does fair-to middling mean much to you? Probably not. Sometimes when I'm playing in my own living room I think I'm more middling, but when I go out to play (and listen to others play) I think I'm just fair. Or sometimes just fairly awful. At least I do go out and play in public, which occasionally impresses somebody. And a (musician) friend once introduced me to someone as a "fine musician" - not true, but it was a nice moment...

Welcome to Chordie, starrlee! As you may have noticed, the folks here are very friendly & helpful! I would just like to add that unless you are totally happy tuning by ear, get yourself an electronic tuner & use it every day or two. Everything sounds so much better with a guitar that's properly tuned...
Cheers!

Sorry to hear about your problems, bunbun. I am another Chordian back sufferer, but nowhere near as bad as you, and some others. I know how very painful it can be, though, and sympathise. Not being able to play guitar either is a double whammy! Hope you get the medical care you need...

The last two guitars I bought (Norman ST68 & the S&P Pro) didn't have pickguards, though they do have a glossy finish, rather than the usual satin. Does this mean they are supposed to "fingerpicking type" guitars? I'm more of a strummer, so was thinking of fitting pickguards. Or would this affect the sound & be rather unnecessary? The S&P has a couple of marks below the soundhole, so a pickguard would at least cover these!

It's a bit of fun, basically. But the voting is very annoying - totally political in bias. The UK never has a chance - everyone with the possible exception of Malta, hates us!!
Sorry, folks in the US, this will mean nothing to you, (but check it out if you can - it's a hoot) but there is a parallel to the Olympics, where the richest countries win more medals by throwing money and technology at certain events. For instance, the UK throws a lot of money at cycling, to develop the very best bike. Why not have a standard bike that everyone has to use - then we would actually see who is the best cyclist...

Live and Let Die...

Have you checked who it is? It COULD be Paul McCartney...

Thanks Amy, that would make more sense! Tried a few this morning, and it seems to work - now I need to check if I can play guitar at the same time. Could be a whole new thread - how to keep fit while you play...
