Well Dino, I read one on Fox News that favored Denver by 10 points (24-14)...... I'm sure both teams are up to giving a good showing so I'm not taking sides on this one...... Publicly!  wink

Thanks Joe!!  I guess in pennance I got to try and clean up the spam garbage (but I do see I had a little help there at the end, thanx).  They really leaped on us this evening!!!  Spent the better part of 45 minutes reporting and Banning...... couldn't we get some kind of "bulk ban" feature?  Oh heck!..... I accidently found that the other day.

Taking it slow and careful for awhile during the break in period.

First I would like to apologize for banning everybody yesterday.....(including myself!) I forgot to over-ride the ip ban which is enabled by default and another glitch had assigned everyone the same ip address.  Something for us Mods to be particularly aware of when kicking the spam-dogs to the curb!

An unusual thing this morning (although I seem to remember it happening yesterday also) when logging in, I was redirected not to the forum (where I started), but some random song in the "songs" section.  A quick click on the forum tab brought me where I wanted to go, so no harm just different.

Looking Good !!!

If that is the preamble to the Chordie "Mission Statement"....... I move to ratify, all in favor say aye.

Chordie is and always has been a community of mentorship, encouragement and guidance, a phrase to uplift those who are down and once in awhile a prayer to those suffering hardship.  Life and music is a journey that is eased by gentle nudges and well shared commentary..... and, yeah, it feels like Family more than not!

Glad to be a part, and really happy you all are around to participate.

Welcome to Chordie !!  Sorry but you caught us in the middle of some major upgrades to the site and servers..... the errors you describe should only be temporary as we are in the de-bugging phase and doing so section by section.

Hang in there and things should get well on their own.  But, we DO appreciate hearing about anything that seems odd, as it helps us sort out any little glitches as we go.

Thanks for posting and Welcome Aboard!

You can still display and change print size (font) from the blue framed section on the right hand side of the song display page, but orientation and other print format options are most likely made in the preferences settings of your particular printer menu.  Generally choose preferences from that and make whatever page layout mods you like and give it a try

The Chordie site is undergoing some changes and there may be more options in the newer version, but not available for prime-time yet.

I would agree with Russell on this topic.  For all around use an SM58 is the ticket, especially if you only need one "go-to" microphone in your arsenal.  Blue makes a little device called "icicle" that you can plug into the end of your XLR cable and connect it to your computer via USB for PC recording and mixing, so no additional pre-amp is needed for around $45.

Welcome to Chordie!!

Dennis, look at your transition options within the Movie Maker App..... it seems to me that there used to be one that would drag the next scene over the current one while "pushing" the other off the screen.  If you could do that fairly slowly over a few seconds bottom to top (of the screen) then the previous one would still be there for reference and the new coming in as a preview.  I could be wrong but my memory isn't as good as it used to be, which is why we need that music in front of us in the first place.?.  I am of course visualizing it in terms of a slide-show with music "pages"..... kind of a Power-point presentation thing.

Welcome to Chordie Dennis!
That sounds like another fun project, similar to Jim's (hinting to Jim who might remember that old TV show Sing Along With Mitch Miller?).

Anyway, back to yours..... it's been awhile since I played with video production, but it seems to me that whatever video editing software you are currently using to make the video content should have the ability for you to insert an audio track and be golden.
The basic Windows Movie Maker will let you insert slides/pages and transition from one to another and add sound by just aligning the timeline indexes. If I remember right, it was packaged with Windows and you could add it from the setup menu as an accessory.

let us know what OS you are using and the version, and perhaps we can advise you better.  Our own "Alien Moderator" Russell Harding does a bit of video production and will likely chime in along the way.....

They might be using On Song which was discussed a bit in another section awhile back:  http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=27344

There may be others, but it would take one of our "fruit gugu" members to be more helpful...... sorry, I'm a PC.

By the way Welcome to Chordie!  While you are here in the Chat Corner, introduce yourself to the group.  Visit often, play the music, and make yourself at home.

OUTSTANDING !!!
70 tunes is a really good number for  a two-three hour gig.  Usually figuring about 3 minutes per, and with a little chat time between I had guessed you would need 40 max.  You will I'm sure with time, pare that down to the ones most well known among your group(s) but the effort will be much appreciated and praise well deserved.

Pleased to be of some small assist.

All three are good, so you really can't go wrong whichever you choose.  But whenever possible try before you buy as learning varies and so too do teaching styles.

Finding a good fit between you and your instructor are paramount, and will make a huge difference in how quickly you progress.  But it all comes down to your desire and willingness to put in the practice to develop the mechanical skills (muscle memory and those darn tough fingertips) along with gaining the little bit of theory to broaden your horizons musically.

Welcome to Chordie and have fun with your music!

I wanted to say something profound.... but I got nothing.  Glen and the Eagles were one of the bands we grew up with, and have more than the music in common, we are contemporary.  Living the times and experiences along with the artists, identifying with the stories and emotions of the lyrics and the music that shaped who we would aspire to be.

The music lives on, and the memories are as fresh as when minted..... Thanks!

Good Morning Jim, (at least it is still morning on my side of the planet)

You are Welcome.  Lyrics it is then.... makes the text tighter on the page.  First thing I would do is to compile a list of tunes from the time frame you like (I would also consider the 30s and 40s for some "old standards"):  a good starting place would be
http://davesmusicdatabase.blogspot.com

You should be able to find a good index (by decade) of the top 100 songs of each era from which to choose your list.  Once you have that you would need to find lyrics which you can copy/paste into your word processor to be either printed or manipulated into your publisher-like software for layout and printing.  A pretty good lyric database is available here:
www.letssingit.com

Some bit of searching around that site for artist and title should let you gather and print (to file) most of the tunes you are looking for.  I prefer .PDF format as my version of office will convert it into most easily edited document types, and the files are fairly small.
Cute PDF writer is a free lightweight PDF editor available for download with a google search.

Sounds like a project that could keep yu busy for a few hours.... have fun!!  Like starting a trip down Memory Lane, so many songs I forgot were out there.....

Hi Jim and Welcome to Chordie!!

A couple of things to consider, first do you need the chords/music? or would just the lyrics serve your needs?  The reason for that is I'm thinking about the age group (knowing how difficult it is getting for me to see small print anymore)..... 8 tunes per page seems ambitious, even using both sides of a standard letter page.

The other thing is determining what software and assets you have for gathering and printing/formatting your "booklet" for printing. I usually just print to file on my PC and assemble content from there into a folder containing my playlist. Drop me an e-mail if you need specific information and I will try to assist.

Again welcome aboard!

Most written material becomes public domain something like 70 years after the author's death..... so it is likely no infringement was made in reference to the poem.

I do respect Phill's point of view, and understand that there is no place really safe in the world (more so at present).  The UK has a much lower per capita number of firearms than we here in the US, and part of that is preference and part is good sense.  On this side of the pond we still have large furry predators wandering the neighborhoods, not just the kind that might bash you with a cricket bat, pipe, or stick you with some pointy chunk of Sheffield Steel.  I've got Bears, Bobcats, packs of Coyotes, Cougars, and the bipedal variety wandering around, which makes it prudent to have arms available at times.

One does have to admit that walking through an Arizona Safeway Market with every third person visibly packing iron (and half of the rest carrying concealed), does take some getting used to.... there is some comfort in knowing that if someone was crazy enough to take pot shots in a crowd of people, he wouldn't live long enough to see his own second shell casing hit the ground, and it would take a forklift to load his miserable carcass into the meat wagon after from the weight of additional lead. It's a "cultural thing" I guess.

This is a touchy subject in some parts of the country, so I will comment in the vein of humour (so please laugh along with me if you've a mind to);

It's been a few years since I had to step onto an airplane, and at that time there were a few things you couldn't carry through security.... truely dangerous stuff like corkscrews, metal nail files, manicure scissors, or the large jug of Frappachino (unless you bought it on the other side of the screening area).  Any liquids flammable or otherwise over something like 2 ounces (so no duty free bourbon), and I once got practically strip searched because I couldn't clear the metal detector until we discovered the metal shanks in my cowboy boots.  Seriously I was down to the fillings in my teeth, the rivets in my jeans and the boots!

So with all the publicity about what is and is not allowed, and the posters, lists and advisories on websites and ticket counters, we are seeing this kind of stuff being shoved into folk's carry-on baggage...???  I'm thinking that along with better background checks on gun buyers, we need to take a good look at school transcripts too!  I mean what kind of Einstein would think a loaded weapon is gonna be OK?

If you really feel the need to be armed when you get to your destination, just do what I do, find a swap meet or gun show and find the fella in the parking lot with the hand printed sign tucked under his windshield wiper that reads "cheap guns", and buy one outta the trunk.  You can always dump it quick at any inner city McDonald's parking lot for almost what you paid (or more) just remember to unload it before the sale or it could end badly.  wink

Wear gloves and Travel Safe out there!

The Techno-pop tunes are especially difficult to do anything with because they are usually highly orchestrated and manipulated digitally.  If you could manage to capture a fairly clean acoustic section and push it through Chordify, it might be able to get you a close starting point to build upon with keyboard.

For us guitar-centric folks to try to sort it out would be reaching......  That said, Good Luck with your search.

Well Bill, that is one thing about Chordie keeping all the posts..... if it was posted here, there is a record and helps support claims if it ever should happen.

Both the Poetry and Songwriting sections were (I believe) good additions to the Forums and unique among the various similar sites out there in webland.  So keep the words and music coming!

Welcome to the Chordie Forums!  Tell us a bit about yourself, such as how long you have been playing music, your favorite artists or genre, and such. You will find the community friendly and quite welcoming with members from all over this small planet we call home.

I always advise new members to read the "stickys" in the heading of each section to get information about the section and what kind of content is generally found.  The moderators will offer advise if you should accidently post something in the wrong area early on (it happens a lot) and you can move your post topic to a more appropriate section if it happens to you.  Don't be shy about asking questions or offering your viewpoint or advice, because that is mostly what Chordie is all about.  People helping people get along in their journey through the world of music at a close and personal level.

Here at Chordie we pride ourselves on being a "family friendly" environment where all are given equal respect regardless of age or experience, and are sensitive to controlling language or subject matter that might be offensive.  There are a few topics that I would advise against broaching, but we are mostly adults around here, and shouldn't have to print a list.

Pleased to have you join us!

I just checked Stewmac and the replacement necks for the Strat and Tele are exactly the same profile, shape, thickness, and fretboard radius.  So if you check the dimensions of the the Strat you like, you could just buy a replacement and swap them out.  If you start carving on an original neck, you stand a chance of weakening it or horror of horrors get into the truss rod dado ending up with a "two-piece" chunk of "Fender kindling".

Replacements are reasonably priced and about what an hour and a half of your Luthier's time would cost..... in my mind a bargain, and allows you to retain the value of the original (by having all the original numbered parts together) should you ever decide to part with your instrument.

You own it so it is up to you how to proceed.

Best Wishes from us as well Amy!  It must be nice to be young enough to still celebrate Birthdays as special events rather than simply to mark the passing of another year without waking up dead. wink  When you get to my age, you just celebrate waking up, so birthdays are just another click off the calendar.  Enjoy the Day and the Cake/Ice Cream/Music!!

Jerome. I caught the "Sun Bowl" from snowy San Antonio Texas today!  What happened to the Cougars Man!!!???  did they NOT get the memo about traditionally blowing it in the 4th?   Or was it that cold white fluffy stuff falling out of the sky that confused the Miami Hurricanes?  Either way, it's good to see a bowl victory for them after all this time!
