Howdy kcart67,

Well that is an "oxymoron" for you.... a thin body acoustic guitar LOL.  Generally you would expect anything acoustic to require a fairly large body to get any volume out of the thing, but I personally play a shallow body AE Ovation Celebrity and although it could be a bit louder "un-plugged" is not at all bad.

As Roger said, the Gibson/Epiphone arch-top guitars have very thin necks, and sound sweet with fast action overall.  But you will find more variety of thinner neck profiles in an electric line, as opposed to acoustic.  Something to do with the guage of strings and tension to achieve pitch.  Played a new Ibenez today and a Breedlove, and the necks of those are very similar to the Ovation you already own (feels that way to me anyway, same thickness and radius, but the both of them had flatter fretboards than what I'm used to).

Best advice is to play everything you can get your fingers wrapped around and you will find something that just "fits".

For me a fine English Stout would be the choice.

Used to drink Stingo.... really dark but tastes better the warmer it gets (bitter just out of the fridge) perfect for that sip between tunes, and thick like syrup, doesn't go flat after an hour or more sitting at the ready.

Cheers!

That's not bad at all Alan, well done for a first effort.

I think that working each element as an individual track will get you a nice finished product.  The single microphone and doing all at the same time ie: instrumental and vocals tends to hinder the flow once in awhile.  I know that if I am doing the instrumental and then getting it where I want it, and then laying the vocal on top  then mixing the two, is a lot of work (and sometimes multiple takes).
I really liked Bring Me Home, and would have liked to hear the guitar a bit more especially in the interlude... but nice, and a fine lyric.

Looking forward to more...

Hey Mrjay,

If you find any Govi tabs..... Pleeease share!  I have been searching myself off and on for a couple years now and it is like nobody knows his music!?!
Haven't even seen any published scores for sale!  Ottmar Liebert is another "hard to find".  All great music but closely held it seems.

Sorry my ear is not good enough to tab things out, but good hunting.

Hi Brother Zurf,

Well it seems to me that you are doing it right. (just another way to say the way I do!) Play your A in that form without the index whenever you can get away with it, and pretty soon the barre addition will be no problem.  I've been doing it that way awhile now because it makes the transition to the Maj7th barre or 7th "natural".  That darn wimpy pinkie that got mangled during a raquetball match years ago really resisted for awhile though, but finally got rewired enough to do what it is told.  Omit the index finger for your open E for awhile and I'd bet the "effen" F gets a bunch easier too!

Howdy again Jaymaica,

How to play guitar the easy way?   Wow I am not sure there is an easy way, but it seems that the guitar is an easy instrument to play.... but to play well takes practice and a reasonable bit of dedication and effort.  Not knowing your experience level, I would have to recommend that you try and see some of Justin Sandercoe's videos on YouTube.  There are a lot of good video tutorials available free on the internet, and Justin's are among the easiest to follow.  Find a piece of music you are familiar with, learn that one and find another.... You'll be "shredding" before you know it!

Howdy there,  and a good question it is...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esteban

Pretty much tells everything available of worth about this gentleman.  He appeared in a couple of Tostitos ads awhile back, and still can be found regularly hawking his guitar course and guitars on QVC Shopping Network etc. although the quality of either or both is questionable.

disclaimer:  The opinions expressed are my own and reflect in no way upon the site or administration herein.

Really felt the need to toss in a "hold harmless" on this, as I would not invest any of my ill gotten gain on most of the ---- (insert adjective here)--- sold in such a manner.

PS: the guy can play pretty well though.

Hi Tobbeda12, and Welcome to Chordie!

Nope.... there is no such thing as a "stupid" question, only the one not asked.  So don't be shy, visit often and participate we are all teaching each other around here!

Thanks for the link SouthPaw.  I too need to work on my harmonics as I can not always get good "chimes" all over the place when I would like to. Could be just slow fingers.... or not enough practice.

Howdy Melon,

Actually there was some discussion about the Amplitude Software apps over on the Recording forum.  But I will have to wander on over to the link you provided and have a listen.  That stuff just gets better and better with every generation (which in software is something like 4 to 6 months)!

Having raised a herd of "geeks" myself, between hardware upgrades and new software versions that someone under this roof isn't Beta-testing... it's a wonder I can afford to replace my dying guitar strings!

Hi Karliner and welcome to Chordie!

Actually here on Chordie is a good place to start looking for what you need!  In the resources you can find information on chords and there is resident here on site, a very good chord index with most any iteration of chords with the charts, to find something you can wrap your fingers around.

As for the song you are looking for specifically, you can search for it here by title or artist and if it has been tabbed or transcribed you likely will find a version.  If the chords seem daunting you can change the key with the menu on the right side of the page and it will change the chords accordingly.

A helpful program that you might like is freely downloadable at www.guitaralchemist.com

Have fun with your music, visit often as there is a gold mine of information at your disposal.

Welcome again, and

Hi Eammat and as this is your first posting... Welcome to Chordie!

Back to the shop for a look and possible adjustment might be your best advise as it should be still under warranty.  One would not normally expect that the bridge would lift or neck warp in so short a time as three weeks unless something was not set up or adjusted in the first place.  I have seen bracing under the saddle where the bridge is attached split due to drying and the top of the guitar bow upwards increasing the action.  That requires repairs that if left until out of warranty, can be expensive.  Go get it checked out at your dealer and hopefully it is just something like a loose truss rod.

Howdy All!

Been busy this last month so haven't been around much.  Noticed this topic about to fall off the page so I thought I'd post something to bring it back up near the top.

Russell's been working on finding sponsors for the CD project and you might want to check out his latest topic on the subject.  If anyone has ideas on getting around the snags he's run into, your thoughts would be welcome.

Meaning no offense to our brothers and sisters across the pond.... if I recall correctly we had discussions early on in this that we might encounter a few "speed bumps" such as this.  I use the term "speed bump" in lieu of "barrier" as we tend to be stubborn over here on this side of the waters, and hate being told "you can't".  The impossible just takes a bit more time and a different approach perhaps.  Russell is sharpening his cramp-ons, and I'm sure if we put our heads together we will find a way to make it happen.

They told Columbus he would sail off the edge of the planet, and although he didn't get to the Indies.... well you get the idea!

It ain't over until the fat lady sings.... Oops not a good choice of words there.... anybody know a good divorce lawyer? LOL

Hi Skydivr103, and welcome aboard!

This is an older thread, but with some very interesting posts worthy of revisiting now and again if for no other reason than to bring oneself back to "earth" so to speak.  The talent/practice aspect is worthy of discussion....  to my mind the talent part makes the practice part easier and more understood.  But in the end it is the practice part that differentiates between exceptional, mediocre, and so-so.

Been practicing for more than half my life and still mired in mediocrity.....
still having fun with it though!

Howdy all,

Really the best aid I've found is a 440A tuning fork. Always on pitch and never never never never needs batteries.... about $12 at better music stores everywhere (although your favorite one will likely have to order it... too "old school" to stock).

Mutants Unite!

We gotta figure out what is wrong with the way our good friend Zurf approaches those dreaded B and F chords.... it's just not fair that he has to go to such lengths to avoid them. But seriously some days the magic just isn't there.... a lot of it has to do with one's frame of mind.  Did you have a really bad day and feeling the stress?  Just my opinion, it does reflect on everything we do and sometimes it is good and others it's not so good.  Tomorrow is another day and things change....

Howdy Khazm,

Out here on the West Coast we are kinda fond of Warmouth up in the Seattle area for "fender-like" components. Good quality and reasonable pricing.  I think they should have something that will fit your needs. Check their website for more Info.  www.warmouth.com

Hi Gears and Welcome to Chordie also!

Well I'll try to get you answered as best I can, although as stated earlier there are more qualified folks out there.
Having started to try to understand the theory of music rather late in my career (?) the whys and wherefores still are a puzzle to me in many areas.  If the music is sitting in front of you and the chords are on it, and you can do the chords, but still want to change the key up to suit your voice as an example... try a capo and start going up the neck until you find a key that sounds right to you.  If you want to go down, you are going to have to transpose the written chords according to where you want to wind up.
The easiest is to just find the tune here on chordie and follow the instructions above to change the key of the tune and the software will do all the work for you.  Print the results and you are in!  The nice thing about software transposition, is that you can play a bit of each version and if it is not enough to fit you, you can easily go up or down a step at a time until you are happy with it.

Welcome to Chordie and don't be a stranger here, there are a lot of good folks here who can and will help you with your guitar playing.  Surely not the easiest instrument to master, but a friend for life once you get a handle on it!

Hi Nonetoxic,

Sure!  Italian, Spanish/Portugese, French, Arabic, Gaelic, Turkish, Greek, Hebrew, German, Swedish, Canadian (just joking about this one).  Some of which I understand from exposure to many languages in my childhood, but music is universal and it is not always necessary to understand the lyrics to enjoy the melody and rhythm of World Music.

Hi Toobusi,

I expected more opinions on this also, but everybody seems a bit shy on this subject.  So I'll "get the ball rolling" with my two cents worth... and mind you it is just an opinion.

Over the years I have played on several amps by different manufacturers including Marshall, Vox, Peavy, Behringer and Fender.  All but the Behringer were tube amps, and I still have a Fender tube box along with the Behringer.  IMO the output from a tube amp is roughly equal to a Solid State amp of twice the wattage.... not sure why it seems so, it just sounds that way to my ear.  A 15 watt Fender Champ will just about blow the windows out of your livingroom cranked up through a 10" speaker.  My Behringer 212 puts out 60 Watts per channel and through a pair of 12" speakers is a lot of noise in that small a space, but I still think the Fender sounds more agressive.  The other fellow I regularly play with has a Behringer 110 head feeding a 4X12 cabinet and my little Fender will easily keep up in most environments.  A single 10" is not nearly enough for a venue of any size but adequate for jamming or rehearsal/practice, and ample for studio use.  The 2X12 is up for any club/pub environment that has decent acoustics (and a quiet audience) with 120 Watts total output. If the club is packed and/or the space larger, a good PA system will spread out the sound for best coverage.  I think you get to a point where more power is not as important as the speakers you are sending to.... and the more speakers you have to drive, the more wattage you'll need.

Take Care;
Doug

PS:  I like tubes, but really like the effects available on the solid state amps...  If I was shopping again I would likely look hard at the Behringer line.  Been impressed with them so far, and good value for the $$$.

Howdy Alanmac872, and welcome to Chordie!

Wlbaye had the same answer I came up with!  Funny how that happens sometimes.  I think you would find the following substitutions:
E7 - B7
A7 - E7
Fm - Cm

But your mileage may vary.

There would be some cases where direct substitutions would not be harmonious, but in the case of C key to G key the 3-4 notes are EF and BC neither of which has a sharp between them.

Admittedly I do not know enough about theory to get this stuff right all the time, but there is a very good resource here over in the theory section where all the real "smarts" live and anything you could come up with will get answered .
Visit Chordie often and have fun with your music, it just gets better and better.

I'm feeling for you Russell,  but then I'm still "old School" running XP. But we remember when it was a problem child also.

I think Devon is going to be available this weekend , so you might touch bases with him and I'll "warn" him to expect you. Everything from MS seems to get released before it is fully ready... the kids are beta testing Windows 7 now and I'm sure they will be whining about that version too before it is all over.
You have to admit though it is a genius who determined that the consumer could do all your quality control testing so you don't have to pay you own people to do it.... and those same consumers will PAY you (ie: purchase it) for the pleasure(?) of doing so!

I know it hurts, but try to laugh anyway.
