Hey Russ,

Appreciate the heads-up. I've decided to wade in and now have a profile in place too. If anyone feels like going along and being the first one in to have a look then feel free it's at:

Let's see some more links up here and get supporting each other.

Cheers,

Ok, not quite as dramatic as the title may suggest but pretty simple question.

Dr Evil captures you (I'm watching Austin Powers as I type) and is threatening you with his "laserr" unless you can perform 3 songs well enough for him to let you go.

What songs do you play???

Mwahahahahahaaaaaa

Attaboy....One More Time is ace....and thankfully not a Britney Spears cover!!

Well done!

I would have to say the most embarassing moment in my whole life occured when I was 16 and to this day i wont forget it.This is something that proberly happend to all male teenagers i was sitting in a new class at the start of the semester and a new teacher asked a question and looking at the attendence sheet she called my name to come to the front of the class and answer the question, normally that would not be a problem but i had my eye on a very voluptious female across from me and i was sexually arroused so I refused to come to the front of the class when asked to I was threatend with a trip to the principals office and detention so reluctently i walked to the front of the class and there in all my pubesent manhood i stood and it wasn't a banana in my pocket either lol i will not devuldge the nickname I was bestowed but it has to do with the first part of my last name lol

Been there Russ......I found that a swift "Thwack" with a handy ruler always did the trick....that way then the class will only need to wonder why you're crying and not worry that you're about to hold the place up!

Guys, thanks for the advice. It's much appreciated and I'll take it on board. I do really want to get my finger out and play a gig or something like that so any hints or tips anyone wants to pass on are huuuugely helpful.

Now if only I could do something to stop the overpowering compulsion to lose my lunch of the very thought of doing it :S

G'day everyone in Chordieland......

I've been playing for about 2 - 3 years now and I've gotten to a standard where I think I can do alright (ish anyway) at a number of songs and even have a few of my own songs up my sleeve for when I really have to clear the building tongue

My question to our more experienced Chordians is this: How does one make the transition from living room legend to actually playing a gig? Although I think the nerves would kill me I have a part of me that has the urge to go and play a gig in a small pub type establishment but I don't really know how to go about it. Do you pester the places in question / give them a cd or something? Are there other places to find out about potential gig venues or am I just missing the point completely and it's all done another way (carrier pigeon perhaps?)

I have no idea and I'd kinda like to give this a go someday so any advice is much appreciated.

Cheers!

Hey Ken,

Really like the songs. Especially down not out and Mother's eyes. Mother's eyes actually reminded me of, dare I say it, George Michael....more from his "Listen Without Prejudice" days as opposed to the camp village people cop persona he adopted for a while. Really good stuff...I look forward to hearing more.

Well done.

Now posted on Youtube.

Not the best recording in the world, but gives an idea of how it's played.

Chordpro error: This is not a valid artistname. You will have to specify an artistname in the form {st: Artistname} in the beginning of the code.

I'll post this on youtube shortly but any comments etc much appreciated. Cheers.

I agree Geo....gotta love it when a song gets you like that.

Aaaanyway, I've finally scratched the itch and recorded the song. Took a while to get anywhere near singing it but I'm close enough-ish. The effort is here:

Putting it up got me to thinking that it'd be ace to see some Chordians performing their favourite covers so consider the cyber gauntlet thrown down!! Let's have some links people......faces and voices to names is always a good thing. Don't be shy...we're all friends here smile

I know there's alot there but I'm really sick of the same ol' songs.

P.S. RORY GALLAGHER IS THE baby's pram Ireland's Finest, R.I.P.

I have a few of the same that I do regularly. Some others that go down well are:

These Streets - Paolo Nutini
Apologize - One Republic
D'Yer Wanna Be a Spaceman - Oasis
Hello - Oasis
Advertising Space - Robbie Williams
The Scientist - Coldplay
In my Place - Coldplay
The Weight - The Band
Why Does it Always Rain on Me - Travis

Hope this helps.

Just been listening to a song I want to try and learn to pick up the arrangement etc. A friend of mine actually recommended I give it a try so I thought I would give it a bash. I know the song pretty well but never listened to it with a view to playing it.....if that makes sense?

The song is On the Other Side of the World by KT Tunstall, incidentally tongue

Anyway, the point of this currently pointless thread is that this song has actually taken my breath away tonight. Not sure what's different this time compared to the countless times before I've listened to the song except that maybe now I'm not just listening.....maybe I'm hearing the song now. Anyway, as I said, I think it's a blinding song. Really beautiful.

So, am I destined for the lunatic asylum or has anyone else had moments like these and if so with which songs?? N.B. this isn't the first time I've had this feeling, just the first time I've had and bothered to post anything about it!

Cheers,
BW

Try "Ophelia" by  The Band. Nice little intro and good beat.
Just got it down pat and is a fun tune to do.

...Badeye.

Another good one by the band is The Weight. I love that song and it's huuuuge fun to play!

Same as everyone else said Jerome, really sorry to hear about your awful news. It'll be little comfort but my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Take care.

Think you mean "Crank d'at" by Soulja Boy....something like that anyway. I don't mind that one in truth, but the follow up? Daaaaymn!

My answer to the question: Hey Ya by Outkast....good Lord I hate that song!!!

I think the whole thing with MJ is that he appears to be trying to escape his past by making himself into someone entirely different. It just further highlights the differences in how the world treats rich people v's "normal" people.

If any one of us behaved even half as erratically as MJ did in the past 20 years we'd have been sectioned for our own protection. However, when you have millions of dollars in the bank you get called "Eccentric" and people pander to your crazy requests.

The double standards in society between everyday people and "Celebrities" is particularly sickening at the moment. The government are finding more and more ways to prosecute citizens (motorists in particular here in the UK) and yet every day we see the likes of Kate Moss, Pete Doherty, Amy Winehouse, Britney Spears et al in the papers involved with drugs, violence and God knows what else and yet sweet little is done about it. To use a good Scottish saying, that rips my knitting!!

Anyway, to get back to the point, Jackson has been allowed to disfigure himself beyond all reasonable levels by a society driven by greed and one which seemingly places celebrities beyond reproach. The guy needed help years ago and yet because he was making money and had money he was allowed to continue. Look at the state of him now........he needs to face up to his own part in it all of course, but the doctors who continued to operate on him should be utterly disgusted at themselves. I suspect they're too busy counting their cash to give a toss though.

Wheeew, that was an unexpected rant. My apologies.

I remember at school I had a young female teacher who once said something strange to me.

I was around 15 at the time and I think her exact quote was:

"No Mark, I can't kiss you, it's inappropriate. In fact, when I think about it, we shouldn't even be sleeping together!"

wink

(it's almost all true...ahem)
