My day would not be complete without at least 2 bananas so I think this is cool. Very good editing skills too, well done to Casey.

Hi Daddycool,

Nice theme, and insight, into a natural phenomena. This one I played two bars per chord as a slow waltz but would love to know how you see it played.

Well done,

Roger

Hi Daddycool,

I guess this one is for your grandson. I played quite upbeat and it seemed to work for me but you really must get down to some serious recording so we can then know how you intend the song to be (mind you that will probably keep you busy for the next 12 months if you record them all lol)

Hi Amy,

I would love to hear a recording of this as I struggled a little with the phrasing when I just gave it a run through, but just lyrics and chords is often like that. I really want to hear how to should be so get to it girl smile.

Well done,

Roger

Hi Guy and welcome to Chordie,

I have moved your post here to the Songwriting section where it belongs.

If you read the 'Sticky' "How To Post An Original Song..." by James McCormick at the start of this section you will find out how to post your own songs with the chords so that they can be printed and others can comment on your work.

Do not worry if it does not come out right the first time you try it as the Moderators can correct any mistakes you make and let you know anything you do wrong. Because it is a specific was of writing everything has to be spot on for it to work and most of us have not got it right the first time.

I look forward to seeing and playing your work.

I could change them for a different set but the dealer recommended against very light strings because they exert pressure on the neck

This I cannot understand as lighter strings are under less tension than heavier strings to reach the same pitch so lighter string put less stress on the neck.

I have a desktop and 2 laptops, in the last 12 months I have logged on to Chordie with all of them and at from at least 6 other PCs here in Portugal and in the UK, all with no problem. The problem is with your new laptop, the only thing I can suggest it the you make sure that Chordie is in your 'trusted sites' and that your firewall is not blocking your access.

Hope you get it fixed,

Hi Coleen and welcome to Chordie,

I am afraid that we can do nothing about this. Chordie is a search engine and gathers songs from the Internet. None are hosted here, but at the top of the page is shown the site from whence it came so you could write to them and point out the error for them to correct it. In due course it would then be changed here.

Hi Chris,

No question is stupid and this is a fascinating question! Although it cannot tell you what key you are singing in it can tell you what note you are singing. I have have never thought of this before so I just collected my Boss TU-80 out of the car and if you sing a note it will tell you what it is (and show you if you are sharp or flat sad).

Because the vocal range of songs do vary I find that although I sing the majority of songs in G, I have some songs that I have to sing in A, Bb, C, D, E, or F to comfortably suit my voice.

So there is not an easy answer to finding the right key, but I suggest that you record yourself singing a song and then, using a capo, try it in different keys and listen to the results as to which sound best and which you find comfortable with.

A comment from Toney (SouthPaw41L) on FaceBook reminded me of this thread which has been dormant for a couple of years now. We have many new Members since then so perhaps they would like to share their 'embarrassing moments' with us.

It is great when your kids exceed your expectations of them, you have every right to be chuffed. Tell him "well done" from me, it is more than I can do.

I have just uploaded a video with my cover of the Bee Gee's song "Words" to YouTube. I was most surprised to immediately get an e-mail from them saying:

Dear RogerGuppy,

Your video, TT & Friends.wmv, may have content that is owned or licensed by Warner Chappell.

No action is required on your part; however, if you're interested in learning how this affects your video, please visit the Content ID Matches section of your account for more information.

Sincerely,
- The YouTube Team

On reading the info that YouTube provide I am apparently in danger of having the audio muted or the whole thing removed. Had I used the Bee Gee's recording I could have understood this but the recording is all my own work. If covering a known song is illegal then every live artiste is at risk of losing their livelihood unless they only perform their own original songs.

I will wait and see what happens but I find this very disconcerting.

Hi Parrot and welcome to Chordie,

You can also change any song you want into the key of A by using the transpose button to the right of the song.

Hi Fox,

Don't forget your fretboard has a range of 3 to 4 octaves so from your bass 'E' to 4th string 2nd fret 'E' is one octave. Your 1st string 'e' is the next octave, the 1st string 12th fret is the third octave and if you are lucky enough to have a 24 fret fretboard the 24th is a fourth octave. So the pitch of these notes will be different. Also the same pitched note can have a different tone when played on a different note (oops 'note' should read 'string').

As not everyone reads the tuition posts I though I would bring this to everyone's attention.

JamPlay are giving away a PRS SE Singlecut guitar as a free to enter competition prize. Check this for details: http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic. … 170#p97170

A man on his Harley was riding along a Californian beach when suddenly the sky clouded over and, in a booming voice, God said, "Because you have tried to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish."

The biker pulled over and said, "Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can ride over anytime I want."

God replied, "Your request is materialistic. Think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking; the supports required to reach the bottom of the Pacific; and the concrete and steel it would take!  I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of something that could possibly be of help to mankind."

The  biker thought about it for a long time. Finally, he said, "God, I wish that I, and all men, could understand women. I want to know how  she feels inside; what she's thinking when she gives me the silent treatment; why she cries; what she means when she says 'nothing's wrong'; why she snaps and complains when I try to help; and how I can make a woman truly happy."

God replied..................

"You want two lanes or four on that bridge?"

Hi Darkvalley - that does seem correct.  Now I just need to figure out what 5 2m means.  Thanks for your help.

I would guess that the fifth then the second minor is played. So in the key of G as used earlier; fifth is D and the second minor is Am.

I would also sugesst, because of the spacing that perhaps the duration of playing these chords is half that of the others.

Thanks Jeff and Tandm,

I did not want the dowel showing so I drilled a small pilot hole that will be hidden by the machine heads as a guide. By masking the surrounding timber and inserting the pilot drill in the hole I could mark the angle to keep the dowel drill true.

Thanks Marcalan, Stephanie and Chris,

Today I removed the last of the strings and then removed the neck to make it easier to work on. I drilled and dowelled the top of the headstock and then glued and clamped her and have left her overnight to dry. I have found, and ordered, some ferrules on the Internet that should solve the problem of the centre support for the machine heads so the final rebuild will not be until they arrive.

Hi Mark,

Keep this link in your favourites for the future: http://www.all-guitar-chords.com/chord_name.php

Here you can mark where the strings are played for the chord name and in the 'Guitar Chords' you can find the chord shape from the name.

Pleased to be in the club cool.

G sus4

Hope that helps.

Why not look in the Public Songbooks under Absolute Beginners? You should find plent of 3 chorders there and you can transpose them if need be to G.

Also look to the songs with 4 chords in to give yourself a new chord to learn as a way of increasing your chord knowledge.
