Roger, your wish is my command!

I just now finished putting "Tell Me Tell Me" up on my 'Songs for Human and Autoharp' page.
Hear is here:

As always, 'tis a flawed recording of an imperfect rendition of an original song that might actually be good . . .

Jets, Dino, & Old Doll - thanks for your positive feedback!
I'm off to work now.  James

This one started out a while back when some very strange stories began circulating about a friend and colleague.  Turns out there was actually a very tiny grain of truth behind all the wild tales - but the local rumor mill churned out some very bizarre embellishments that mean-spirited jerks were quite willing to believe.

I live in Mississippi about 4 hours in from the coast.  We had been expecting remnants of the storm to come this way - however, it seems that the storm's path will take it across southwestern Louisiana instead.

I am relieved but also sad for all the communities in its path.  It will be slamming into and churning through the heart of Cajun country - home of all that wonderful chanky-chank music.

Hi rockin gecko -
G D A E (lowest to highest, perfect fifths)
Check this for tuning tones:
http://www.violinonline.com/tuning.htm

Chances are your instrument needs some real tender loving care. Violins are delicate beasts.  The tuning pegs are friction fit and they can get whacky if the violin has been neglected.  Also, the bridge and tailpiece may need some tweaking.  Plus, your bow is just as important as the violin itself.

Find another fiddler or a local music store that handles violins.  If there is a professional orchestra or community orchestra or string program in the local schools you can probably find a teacher.  If there are blue grass festivals or traditional music festivals in your area you can probably meet somebody who knows what to do.

Good luck with it . . . best to get some expert advice before permanent harm is done to the instrument or bow.

Hi littledarling & welcome to chordie!

'Landslide' is a great song - one of Stevie Nick's best. I just checked the index and found several versions of the song there. Some have tabs, some have just chords, some have both.

This song is not one I know - so I'll let others share their wisdom and tips.

I know some players who swear by this brand of thumb pick.
The little holder tabs adjust very well and they say this thing really stays put and works wonders:

p.s. Richard Thompson is an incredible artist.  His "Beeswing" is one of my all-time favorite whole-novels-in-a-song songs.  Here is an interview he did on National Public Radio.  The sound file includes several full-length live cuts that are part of his '1000 Years of Popular Music' collection.

It is quite true that chordie's forum is not the place for arguments about politics or religion.  However, the subject matter of original songs can certainly be of a political or religious nature.

Songs can be about anything.

That might seem contradictory, but that is the way it is . . . a song can be about anything.  We won't argue politics (or religion) here - but song writer's are welcome to post songs that might be about politics or religion.

I realize the content of "Sanctimonious Profiteering Fear Mongers Out!" is very political.  If you happen to agree or disagree, that is OK.  I won't argue publicly in the forum with anybody about the substance of the song.  I would welcome private emails from anybody who disagrees (or agrees) with the song's content - we can have a lively private discussion via email off the forum.

Also, anybody is welcome to post an original song about politics or religion (or anything) here on the forum.  Obscene lyrics are not allowed - but any topic is fair game for an original song.

If you disagree with the content of a song - you are welcome to state your disagreement.

Greetings from Starkville Mississippi where Paul Thorn and his band are playing tonight at Rick's!  Unfortunately, I am broke until payday on Monday so I'll have to miss the show . . . very sad!

Anyway - I recently recorded a song that I first posted here almost 2 years ago.  I have streamlined the lyrics so I figured I would just put the 'new & improved' version up here in a fresh message (rather than dredging the old version up from the forum archives).

WARNING . . .
If you think Fox News is truly 'Fair and Balanced', you will NOT like this song.
If you think Rush Limbaugh is a well-reasoned and insightful genius, you will NOT like this song.
If you believe anything Ann Coulter writes or says, you will NOT like this song.

Trivia question . . .
What was the name of Mr. Bojangle's dog?
Answer:
Up And Died - - -  as in, "His dog, Up And Died, up and died, after 20 years he still grieves"

Good-gracious-almighty!
Lena, you have hit a bullseye with this one . . . thank goodness not all women are of the Mantis breed.

The one consolation in all this is that manipulative persons usually get just what they deserve eventually.

My favorite cover song story:
"Get Togehter" made famous by Jesse Colin Young and the Youngbloods.
This song is a 60's classic about Love and other Groovy Stuff.  It was written by Dino Valenti - but he never made any money on this smash hit.

Valenti sold the copyright for this song (and others) in order to raise money to pay an attorney to defend against a drug arrest.  He was convicted and spent time in prison.  Here is a Wikipedia article about Valenti - he was a part of the San Francisco music scene and a founding member of Quicksilver Messenger Service.

Zurf - I agree . . . all my cover versions of songs are stripped down to the bare necessities.  No extra chrome and flashy paint jobs.  Just pure essence!

Hi Sparky66 -
There are a zillion different ways to tune and play a dulcimer.

Here is good resource for dulcimers:

Here is a great YouTube of Joni Mitchell playing 'California'

There are some very active dulcimer forums and groups on the web - see the links on EverythingDulcimer.

Hey - very cool website!
However, please realize that the Confederate Battle Flag is a piece of very loaded symbolism here in the States.  For some it is a symbol of historical pride - for many other's it is an enduring symbol of bigotry, slavery, and human degradation.

Nice to meet you,
James

A blond woman is speeding down the highway. A blond female cop pulls her over.  Cop says to the driver, "Ma'am I need to see you driver's license".  The driver starts rummaging through an enormous purse full of junk.

After a fruitless search, the driver asks the cop, "What does a driver's license look like?"  The cop says, "It's a little square thing with your picture on it." The driver digs into her purse again and finds a little square make-up mirror.  She looks at the little mirror and says, "I found it!" and gives it the cop.

The blond cop looks at the little mirror and says, "Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were also a police officer - you can be on your way!"

Just a thought on learning Music Theory . . .

Music is like an alluring woman - vivacious, beautiful, and charming.  Like many of us, I was attracted to this gorgeous babe thinking, "Wow, I just have to know this chick!"

However, soon after introducing myself I realized that She (Music) is more than just a cute babe.  She is actually a complex and fascinating creature full of mystery, surprises, and great depth.

Some are scared away by Music's complicated nature - but I am endlessly intrigued.  I have come to realize that I can never know it all - - - but, I can keep on learning just a little bit more about Her all the time.

She is never a boring companion.  She can be demanding and frustrating.  She can seem unreasonable and illogical at times - but She is never, ever boring!

Music has fascinated humans for thousands of years.  She speaks her own language that is both ancient and ever-changing.

Music is well worth getting to know better - Music Theory is a great way to explore her beauty!

Law enforcement is big business - - -
Thinking of all the various layers of cops we have in the USA is amazing . . .
I'm defining a cop as somebody authorized to carry a weapon and paid by the government to enforce laws:

city police force
university campus police
county sheriff's office & deputies
constables (elected officers who serve warrants & court summons)
regional drug task forces (undercover agents)
State Troopers
department of transportation inspectors (trucks)
wildlife & fisheries officers (enforce hunting & game laws)
US Customs Inspectors
FBI
Postal Inspectors
Treasury Agents (Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms)
Secret Service
Military Police (each branch)
US Border Patrol
Homeland Security Officials (sky police, etc)

There are probably even more - but this incomplete list is rather astounding.

I heard an interview with this young man and his parents on National Public Radio a few days ago. It all seems rather odd to me . . . the parents sounded like well-meaning idiots.  The kid is driven to succeed (and that is good) but I wish he would channel his efforts on something less thoroughly stupid than Guitar Hero.

On the positive side - the creative folks at Nintendo have figured out how to make total idiots pay money to play air guitar!

Maybe in the near future Nintendo will come up with a game where you buy this plastic nose and then earn points for picking virtual boogers out of it . . .
