At the moment its the Eagles doing it for me, especially Joe Walsh, the man is such a character and wonderful performer, best solo of all time for me is Hotel California. Went to see them at the O2 in london recently, they must have had 100's of guitars back stage, different guitar for every number, WOW and WOW again!

Hiya, anyone know anything about congas or where I can get some info on them? Its for a friend who wants to take them up, but is taking forever to getting round to it. He doesn't want to spend much, about £200 for a pair, any help would be appreciated. Andy.

Well today I meet a young gentleman at the local music store. I talked to him for awhile and he seemed like a real stand up kid. I then went and spoke to the owner (a friend of mine) and during the conversation the subject of the young man came up. Seems he's been taking lessons for about a year and has always rented a guitar due to a poor situation at home. So in a moment that I thought was kindness (but now I feel a little stupid) I went home and got one of my less expensive guitars (A '95 S&P Pro curly maple) and went back to the music store. Yep, I pulled the kid to the side after his lesson and handed him the guitar!!! Yep just gave it to him. Man I miss my baby all ready...lol On the other hand it feels good to help out a kid with a dream to play but not the funds.... He promises to take the utmost care of it and return it to me as soon as he can save up to buy his own.... Maybe....

Beautiful act Guitarpix, nicest thing ive heard in a long time...Ps, you wouldn't happen to have an old les paul lying about you might like to donate to a poor guy like me would ya? lol.

Funny how everyone remembers that song, I wouldn't mind just ONE hit like that, anyway, he actually had a follow up single, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKy9ulkIPgo  does this sound familiar?

Found out that if I plug my amp into my Hi-Fi it'll destroy the speakers. yikes

I've had a look and I think it's going to be one of these:

Epiphone Valve Junior 5w
http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/options.php?id=68250

Vox AD-15VT 15watt valve combo
http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/options.php?id=12178

HI, not sure about the 5w junior, i got the AD15vt, and i like it alot. But if you got 200 to play with, go and try the AD30vt(£129) and the AD50vt(£189), My AD15 is loud enough for what I want, but the 30 and 50 allows you to Adjust the output wattage of the power amp,so you can lower the volume without losing the sense of drive. I regret not spending £30 more for the AD30, for that feature plus louder! Go try them out, i'm sure you will like them alot, especially at that price.

The Epiphone Valve Junior is a great amp. Professional sound and can't be beat at the price. Being pure tube doesn't hurt either.

Pure Tube doesn't hurt at all! lol.

Tibernius wrote:

Thanks for the link andros67, I've checked that out and a few of the Epiphone Valve Jr demos on youtube and I've finally decided. smile

I'm going with the Epiphone. I've heard some demos of it stock and modified and I like it.
A lot.
I've got a Zoom G2.1U so I've already got amp modelling and effects, so it doesn't make much difference to me that it hasn't got them. But the sound of the Valve Jr, especially with some mods, is incredible.

This is the modified one I was talking about:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=_SoSmp0Lk9g

not many original parts left by the sound of it! lol
Definitely the Amp for me. (until I can afford that Orange Rocker 30w stack lol )

Thanks for the advice everyone. smile

Your welcome Tibernius, glad you came to decision your happy with, thats the main thing, I'm sure you'll do fine with that amp, I saw the clip, your right, lots of mods, speaker and tube upgrades, sounds good too, happy playing, Andy.

I read on Harmony Central that the Vox AD series amps aren't very reliable. But then again neither are the reviews on that site. hmm Have you had any problems with it?

How's the sound with the AD15VT? Does it sound like a proper Valve (Tube) Amp?
I've seen some amps (can't remember the manufacturer, think it was Laney) that weren't actually Valve amps even though they claim they are.

I've had mine about 15 months and still works fine, never heard them being unreliable before, i got a link for a demo on Youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yayu2Qq-SPw I understand it has a valve in the pre-amp, a mixture of valve and electronics, hence the name of the series, Valvetronix, but I couldn't say whether its as good as a pure tube amp, dont forget the AD15 is only £99, has lots of presets, which emulate famous amps of the past, like the AC30, have a listen to the demo, and if you like what you hear, go and try one out. Personally, I never tried it out, I heard the demo and I was sold,it fit my budget and sounded good enough for me,a novice at the time, I ordered online from GAK, but then thats me, everyone is different. All the best, Andy.

Yup! I tried it, he's right it works, although I personally wouldn't make a habit of it; but I don't think this means there's something wrong with my guitar ,I think that the neck of a guitar has to have a degree of flexibility to allow for truss rod adjustment, so yes it works.

You deserve a high 5. smile

high 5 you back! us neck bending; guitar abusing philistines need to stick together! hehe.

It's OK if you get a mini-whammy effect when you bend your neck all rock-star like. The neck is made from wood and wood bends. Too much of this poser stuff will eventually cause some big time problems with the neck-body connection. It does look and sound way cool though..................Save this show-off, heyy watch-me-abuse-my-guitar stuff for your low priced guitars or guitars that are in eminent need of quick repair.......

To previous posts;   Isn't that paraphrasing what I said.........................
Listen up y'all; wood bends, steel does too, if it's thin enough. A guitar neck, on an electric guitar, is made up  of 19 parts wood and 1 part steel (truss rod) think of it as a toothpick inserted into a carrott. It will bend repeatedly but eventually, after excessively abusing said guitar neck, it's gonna snap. Go on and do it, you know you want to. Place a toothpick into the middle of a 2" evenly cut crisp piece of carrott and bend away. My guess is you'll be at it for about 30-38 bends or so before it snaps. Any of you adventurous ones out there care to take my test of physics theory?.....................Get back to me if you do so and as I suggested earlier, save the guitar abuse for crappy guitars or guitars in need of eminent repair.................................

Right heres where I have the problem, i get to the part where I evenly cut a 2" crisp carrot, then I go blank, and I cant remember how it gets in my mouth! I tried it 4 times, just ready to insert that toothpick, then bam; I'm crunching away, anyone else has this problem?

Ok heres a question, if you could combine any 2 bands or artists on stage;past or present, who would you put together? As an example, Elvis Presley and Duran Duran, song; A view to a kill with The pelvis taking lead vocals. OK i know thats nuts, but lets see what you can come up with! Andy.

In the MUSIC STORE they will tell you in 90% of the stores that an AMERICAN FENDER IS BETTER.
About the end of the production line: I've been in the GIBSON plant in MEMPHIS, a few skilled guitar players perform the ultimate test: playing every guitar of the production line. I suppose this happens to Fender too.
- Mexicans are cheaper workers AND THIS IS WHAT I NOTICE MOST IN THE ETERNAL RECURRING QUESTION ABOUT THE DIFFERENCE.
WOULD ANYBODY DISCUSS ABOUT THE DIFFERENCE IF A MEXICAN STRAT SHOULD BE MADE BY US CITIZENS WITH AN US SALARY, I don't think so. The price will go up with 200-300$.
- There is a difference between a stratocaster MIM and a Stratocaster MIM, just like in the USA.
A lot of people won't her much difference between a top Mexican Fender and a regular US Fender. Wherever you go to find a difference, you will find different opinions. ADVISE: go and look the reviews on www.musiciansfriend.com or www.zzounds.com
Some custom made fenders are made in Mexico.
ABOUT THE SINGLE COILS: I found Mexican fenders with the same coils as in an American Fender.
US Fender coils: magnetic poled alnico magnets (a mix of Aluminum, Nickel and Cobalt,)
TO SEE BOTH FENDERS NEXT TO EACH OTHER (US VERSUS MEXICO) here is a link
www.bothner.co.za/products/fender/mexvsus.shtml
There are too much Fenders, but on that site they compare very well the 2 Fenders

Hi, I noticed that the MIA has 22 frets and the MIM has 21, does this mean the necks vary in length, or are the frets spaced differently? Andy.

I really want to get a new guitar because I am sick of my cheap squier.  I want a guitar that is the best i can get for a moderate amount of money thanks for any ideas!!!!!!!

Hi, I got a MIM (made in Mexico) Strat last year,I wanted something good to learn on and i haven't regretted it at all, its ALOT of guitar for the money, I paid £320 for the HSS or Fat Strat as its also known, it has 2 single coils and a Humbucker in the bridge to give you that fatter tone. Beautifully made, and the sound is not far off the American version so I understand. Many of the parts are shipped across the border to Mexico and assembled there cheaper, I'm not sure what the exact differences are, I think the bridge is slightly different, and the pickups are probably not as good as the American version, but you can change the pups, there are so many different types on the market. If anyone else knows the exact differences i'd love to know. I would definitely give it a look, the Strat does everything, good all rounder, I love it, mine is Arctic white, maple neck and rosewood fretboard. All the best Andy.

Russel I checked it out last night, very nice, l'm listening to Iron Hardware now, are they your vocals? Liked all the tracks particularly Latin Sun and Shadrack, really nice guitar sound and melody. Tight productions and nice arrangements, Lovely acoustic on Abednigo, you express yourself beautifully. If i can play half as well in a year or two i'd be over the moon. Andy.
