Topic: Repair Question! (7 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Hey Guys!
I have a question for anyone here who knows anything about repairing guitars.
I picked up a seagull for $20 at a garage sale. Nice guitar, but someone had sat on the top, and there are a couple fracture cracks which don't worry me at all, and the bracing that supports the top had popped loose. Now all the bracing is still in position, and it's attached at the end closest to the sides. The only I see that I need to do to make it playable is glue the bracing together where it joins in the center, and to the top of the guitar. Does anybody have any ideas how to do this? I assume I would need a mirror, but what kind of glue should I use? I'll have to do it through the soundhole, might be awkward but it should be doable. Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Favorite dexterity exercises (8 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Hey Zurf-
One exercise I give to my students that really helped me goes something like this-
Take a scale, any scale that you are familiar with. I like using the pentatonic or a closed major, but it's sort of irrelevant. Anyway, start playing the first 3 notes of the scale, but instead of continuing, start on the 2nd note, play 3 up, then 3rd, then three up. If was a C major scale, it would go like this-
CDE-DEF-EFG-FGA-GAB-ABC.
You could also do the same with 4 notes, for example CDEF-DEFG- etc.
This is a real finger twister, and will mess up your head the first couple times you try. Keep at it, and once you get the rhythm, this really helps for speed and dexterity.
hope that helps, any problems, let me know.

You know you're a musician, particularly a classical guitarist, when your worst nightmares usually involve breaking a fingernail on your right hand!!!
I've had two such dreams, they were truly horrible

Re: What is the source of the Martin D18 mystique? (36 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I've never understood the "mystique" as naolslager puts it, of any Martins at all. I've kinda found them to be over-bassy and a little dull. Still, many guitarists I have a lot of respect for say they're amazing, each to his own. Maybe the older ones are better, haven't played too many of though.

Topic: Acoustic/Electric amps (8 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
hey guys
I know this question might have been asked before, but I'm not sure.
Does anyone know of amps that are pretty good quality for both acoustic and electric to be played thru?
I'm more concerned about acoustic quality, as that's definitely what I play most, but I'm getting an electric soon, and I don't want to buy 2 amps right now. I don't need a lot of different electric, but just normalish. I want a performance grade acoustic sound though, and I'm just wondering if anyone knows if you can even find amps like that?
thanks in advance

Just curious, how many of you chordie members teach guitar? Even a little bit, or regularly?
What do you all think of it, and what are your styles of teaching?
I teach in a conservatory and private, and I love it.
wondering how many other there are on here, and if any of them want to share problems/ advice and stuff like that ?

Hi and welcome to chordie!
There are two common fingerings for Gsus that I know of.
One that is a little bit harder would be the Gsus barre chord-
_|_|1|_|_|
_|_|1|_|_|
_|_|_|_|4|
_|_|_|_|3|
_|_|_|_|2|
_|_|1|_|_|
The second, and easier, would be played like this-
_|_|4|_|_|
1|_|_|_|_|
_|_|_|_|_|
_|_|_|_|_|
_|2|_|_|_|
_|_|3|_|_|
Hope that helps

I have for sale a hardly used Boss RC-2 Looping station.
Just took it out of the box two days ago, used it a couple times. Works perfectly.
The only reason I am selling it is because I'm thinking of upgrading.
Packs a lot of features in one pedal, including quantize looping and multiple styles of drumbeats.
Ton of fun for jamming with yourself or others.
300 $ OBO

Re: Philosophical (and possibly stupid) question (17 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
For me, I felt like a "guitar player" right about when two things happened...
I took my grade 5 classical guitar exam, passed it, and started composing acoustic style songs... thats when i had something to offer that not everybody does, and you feel like you actually claim the title 'guitar player'. But I never feel like I know enough...
