A wonderful experience Cam and a memory to treasure.

Six years ago I made a CD for my mum that made her cry, however it was not a recording of me but her mother, my grandmother, reciting a poem that was her party piece, and this was 40 years after her death. It had originally been recorded by a cousin of mine on an old reel-to reel tape and, with no player, I had to go on the local radio to borrow one to transfer it to my PC. I was amazed at the quality of a recording done so long ago.

The CD certainly made a great 80th birthday present for my mum, even if we did both weep whilst listening to it.

HI Mark,

Great to hear you had such a wonderful present and so much fun at the studio, lucky man to have such a considerate lovely lady. Like others I am looking forward to hearing the finished results.

Maybe using a softer pick will reduce the pick sound you are hearing or try playing without a pick. You can use the the fleshy part of your thumb to give a mellow tone or use your nails to make it louder and more lively.

As for missing the of palm mute or strums, more practice will make perfect or alternatively you could say that this is just your interpretation of the song and that you meant to play it that way smile.

Recording your playing/singing and listening to it afterwards is a good way of analysing what you are doing to make changes or improvements. It is also beneficial to save recordings to see how much you have improved over the months.

Hi Billy and welcome to Chordie,

This question was raised last month and I think that the replies there will be of help to you:

Ken as I understand it the majority of drivers in the world drive on the left hand side of the road, South Africa, Japan and (I think) China. The idea for driving on this side came from the days when we wore a sword and rode a horse, it was easier (for the right handed) to draw your sword and defend yourself if you passed this way.

When it comes to roundabouts I am sure that there must be a EEC grant for them. They are springing up all over Portugal. Quartiera, a town I know well had a main road through it about 1.5 km long with one set of traffic lights in it 3 years ago. Now there are no lights but 7 roundabouts and it is far worse to navigate particularly as there are zebra crossings on each road just as you approach them.

What I find very confusing in Portugal is the seperation of numbers they use commas where we use full stops and vice versa. So three thousand euros and 50 cents would be written €3.000,50.

Happy first Chordie birthday Riverdales and congrats on reaching your century. With the earlier Chordie software you would have been a Junior Member until you had made 100 posts and only then become a Member.

Zurf I see that you are 3 ahead of badeye at the moment but I am sure he will be trying to change that. I hope the weather is good for the now world famous Zurf Garden Party and I am sure that everyone will have a great time. I wish I was there, but as I cannot be I shall look forward to hearing about it.

Hi DevilCat and welcome to Chordie,

I assume that you are playing D using your index, middle and ring fingers. Some of my students find it easier to use the index finger to barre the first three (G, B and e) strings on the second fret and then use the middle finger to play the second (B) string on the third fret. This way you are only having to postion two fingers.

That sounds like its a lot easier. Is this method of hitting a D Chord frowned upon for any reason ? i.e. what are the potential drawbacks. As I'm just learning I don't want to potentially develop any bad habits, but doing a barre on the first 3 strings sounds miles easier than hitting that chord with 3 fingers.

No, not as far as I know. You can later expand it to x54232 and move it up a fret for a 5 string Eb and up another fret for E and so on before making it a full barre chord.

Definitely NO that is private between me and the person concerned. Rest assured if you, or anyone else for that matter, had done anything that was inappropriate you would be the first to know. As far as I am concerned, publically if it was a serious offence or considered to be done with intent or privately if it was something silly and out of character, as this was.

I have made my apology for my mistake and I have explained as much as is necessary without causing embarrassement to anyone.

This matter is now closed.

Hey Daddycool,

I have been wooing so I have not been songwriting much but I have been active in other areas of Chordie. I am very well and enjoying the attentions of a sweet young lady.

I do regret deleting the thread, it was not my intention but I will not mention who was involved or why I was deleting posts. That is private between me and someone else and I know that the incident will not occur again so I would suggest that the person who started the thread start it again if he, or she, so wishes. There were some very amusing comments in that thread, I agree with Ozymandias it is good to have somewhere to let the silliness out and give it an airing smile.

I was deleting a series of inappropriate posts from this thread and accidentally deleted the whole thing. This was not my intention and it is not possible to reinstate a deleted thread so my apologies to all who wanted to keep this going.

When you have an unusual name like mine you find many references to yourself. I for one do not mind when most of the first 3 pages of Google are me cool.

This is the latest scan of Chordie from Norton that was completed today: http://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=chordie.com

As you can see all is well.

Like Ken I have heard, and read in magazines, many discouraging reports about Norton and I am told is is not easy to get rid of all traces of it once you have installed it. It is not  a programme that I would use.

Hi Wayne,

A great recording and I like the interpretation you have put on my song. I am honoured and flattered, thank you.

Roger

PS You will notice from my edit in your initial post that I have corrected the error in the thread title for you.

Hi flavie,

Advertising has to be paid for whether it be on billboards, newspapers, TV or the Internet. The website of niklasber linking people to commercial sites will normally generates income for the owner of that site, in this case niklasber, so posting it is spam and hence its removal of the link by my collegue. If the site is in it's infancy it may not at the moment generate any income, but if it proves sucessful, it most certainly will.

Chordie promotes and advertises two guitar tuition courses, Jamorama and JamPlay. Both of which are tried and tested and and known to be fair and honest with their clients. From posts we have seen in this Forum it is obvious that some of the others are not trutworthy.

Any newcomer, like yourself, wanting help will get it completely free from the generous Members of Chordie who are always more than willing to share their knowledge and experience with others and to help and encourage them to improve, simply by asking in the appropriate section.

Roger

Anyone wishing to advertise or promate a commerial website on Chordie should write to admin@chordie.com for more information.

Great stuff Crevs after such a short time of playing although I do agree with Russ about getting the right key for your voice. I have commented on YouTube and given you 5 stars for both. Keep it up and let us know when you upload more.

Hi Carmusic and welcome to Chordie,

The automatically generate passwords are awful to remember so here is what you do:

Click on 'Profile' in the blue bar above and under your user name you will see Change password. Click on this and and you can then make it something easier to remember.

If you then click on 'Privacy' in the blue box on the left you can set Chordie to remember your username and password between visits so that you are automatically logged in when you open Chordie, however this is not a good idea on a shared computor as anyone else using the PC can steal your Chordie identity.

Roger

Two song I could never imagine ever being performed better than the original:

"Over The Rainbow" - Judy Garland
"Fields Of Gold" - Sting

That was until Eva Cassiday sang them.

Wow Nela that is something else. I am so pleased that you have a happy ending to your experience which so easily could have been a tragedy. You now need to take it easy and seek medical advice and do whatever is needed to prevent any further problems.

My thoughts and prayers are with you,

Hey Russ do not give up hope,

I am only a couple of years younger than you and I too was on my own and not looking for a lady, but by chance one has walked into my life. I can assure you that her cooking in vastly superior to mine. I am only worried that I might start putting on weight but I hope the exercise will prevent that smile.

My favourite lines come from a song called "You" that I wrote 18 months ago.

'Perfection is very rarely found but that word is just right for you,
You're unique in this imperfect world an angel on earth is you.'
