i want one of those goddess les pauls.... they look so nice and they have a narrow neck for my small hands. Ive never owned a lp or a sg, but Ive heard people play both firsthand.... personally i like the warmth of a les, but if your going for heavier distortion i'd pick SG

James, I was kind of leaning that way myself. I trust your opinions so I'm going to work toward that end because dark was the feeling i was getting too. Maybe a few switches from major t o minor or sevenths to minors.....thanks all for the compliments

Cuz lovin' eyes are blind

But Silas had a temper

And she was the cheatin' kind
G Em
Tears ran down his face like rivers
C Am
As she died there in the sand
C Am C
But water won't wash blood off guilty hands
Am D G
No, water won't wash blood off guilty hands
He took to drinkin' liquor
Cuz he knew what he'd done wrong
Had an empty bottle and a Bible
And he hums to 'Delia's Gone'
He couldn't lose her memory
No matter how he ran
Cuz whiskey won't take blood off guilty hands
No whiskey can't wash blood off guilty hands
He sat down in the hallway
Barrell pressed against his chin
Finger resting on the trigger
And he prays to God again
He says 'Father please forgive me
but I'm an old old man
And time couldn't wear the blood off guilty hands
No time wouldn't wear the blood off guilty hands
Anyway, its a little story song type thing. There's a little slide thingy I do as an intro but i won't bore yall with tablature this time.

this one really sounds more like a poem than anything, but i think it could make a cool rokcish type song too. I guess in some ways you could call this a christian song, but i hope it doesnt come off quite as cliche and cheesy as a lot of modern christian music. I was really just writing a song and i guess when you believe in something it surfaces in your writing from time to time....
VERSE 1
the prince of liars makes his throne
on stolen innocence
and hearts that run so blindly
to hollow sacraments
darkness dwells in empty hearts
where it finds a hiding place
and the lion feeds on children
because they tire soon from the chase
CHORUS
candles burning in the dark
make sure the light is seen
in this land of broken hearts
we're few and far between
VERSE 2
there are souls who stand outside and watch
won't someone let them in
or is it they're not good enough?
weren't you once one of them
ignorance is winked at
but pride becomes a fall
how will they see our faces
if we build the walls so tall?
So anyhoo, comments/suggestions?? Any ideas on the melody would be appreciated too

Yes I think its pretty obvious im a big skynyrd fan, i hope it doesn't sound like too much of a rip-off, i cant stand it when people mention songs/artists just because they can't think of anything else to say. I did it because it just fit, not as an attempt to make my song sound cool....
anyway thanks again for the kind words, they're very encouraging

Okay this is not just another title i made up cuz i didnt have one, this one actually ties into the song.....
I havent taken the time to work out the chord pattern yet but it has kind of climbing and rising feeling, like its building up as it goes. It should probly have a real awesome solo at the end but then i couldnt write one if i tried..... consider this a short definiton of me ![]()
My Song
FIRST PART
I aint never had much money
Dont count on making too much more
been times i laughed like it was funny
over things worth crying for
i dont know what happened
to my tender days
i guess i spent them well enough
that they went away
- chorus-
so call me what you want to
but this free bird cannot change
and you can push your music down my throat
but my song stays the same
(second time - 'and it goes like this', ---go into dixie anthem, and then a solo would be nice lol---
SECOND PART
Ive been told plenty what im not
And i know what most folks think i am
Ive kneeled before the saviour
and ive shook the devils hand
but ive got Jesus in my spirit
and dixie in my bones
ive got a pair of wore out ramblin' shoes
but i also have a home*
*i might change this to 'but i know where to call home'.... noy sure yet so opinions on that would be appreciated

well i just got back from a week in the country, had a lot of fun got to do a lot of playing with my pack of kinfolks, lots of country and gospel and nuthin too hard lol
A lot of this said playing was done outside, which was nice because the weather was comfortable and it was dry not all humid and muggy like down here on the coast.
i noticed when i was playing outiside up there that the tone was better, it sounded better than it does here at home. Is it the humidity that does this, or was it maybe having it out in the open??

Re: WILL THERE BE ANYTHING BETTER THAN THE BEATLES (15 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
well i think you have to look at it this way, if to you the beatles were the best, then to you there wont ever be anything better, but maybe to somebody else there will be
personally im that way about hank williams sr., there wont ever be another one like him because to me hes country music perfection.... but will there be somebody who's just as good? maybe... or at least i hope.

Re: FUNNY FACTS IN COUNTRY MUSIC (15 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
ahh johnny cash, theres no doubt he was awesome, but WHAT exactly it was that made him awesome im not sure,....
You'll find in country music that musical heritage plays a big part in someones career. SOngs, names, album names, and lyrycs will pretty often play off of (or give a respectiful wink at) some prior country legend or song. Its kind like showing your respect and knowledge of the music you've become a part of. sometimes people do it because they think it will make hard core country fans like them, sometimes its because they genuinely respect another singer and want to give them a tribute.... being a man accustomed to prison johnny paycheck would have naturally been a johnny cash fan. The fact he never went doesnt really matter in the end i guess because everybody i ever knew who got in trouble with the law loved johnny cash.
Johnny Paycheck is considered a country classic here in america, but hes not HUGE. Hes mostly known for take this job and shove it

Re: WHO IS CONSIDERED TODAY AS THE BEST GUITARIST? (26 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
well first of all ur right, billy is awesome....
i would say some of my personal choices would be,
stevie ray vaughn
slash
and of course being a huge skynyrd fan i have to mention them, and dont get me wrong gary rossington plays a mean slide guitar but i think steve gaines was just as good (if not a hiar better and being an all around player)
im also a big hank jr fan, and even though i know he uses a band most of the time, ive seen him play on his own and that dude's pretty impressive, kind of reminds me of waylon who would have been on the list if he hadnt passed away a few years back.

i was eating in lumberton at the casa ole one night, and i thought i kept hearing my name said behind me but i didnt recognize the people.... so i started eaves dropping and found that they WERE talking about me, relating to their friends some experiences they'd had with four crazy rednecks and a school bus......
so anyway i guess some of my antics were spread abroad. I hope they never make a statue of me because i know what it would have to look like lol
Nice song though, its always nice when i can relate to lyrycs ![]()

Re: Another untitled gospel song form last rebel.... (13 replies, posted in Songwriting)
Very nice song LR. I've been wanting to play more Country Gospel but am having a hard time coming up with songs I can play. As you said, they're a fair bit more difficult than regular Country tunes. Some of the chords I think were designed to demonstrate that they cannot be played but with Divine Intervention. This one's going into my book.
- Zurf
well here's a few of my favorites you might enjoy,
the great speckled bird
i'll fly away
the uncloudy day
angel band
can the circle be unbroken
i fell on my knees and cried holy
where the roses never fade
down to the river
i shall not be moved.....
i can play most of these pretty easy, mostly a simple one two three pattern thats not hard once you get the hang of it.
