Cool! Thanks for the list! Some great stuff there! Brett has been one of my favorites for awhile. I thought this was pretty cool of him http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTOvleMMSrc I know I don't have a chance but I'm giving it a shot... Adele has an awesome voice and style. I like Jeff Finlin's "Sugar Blue". Jessica was a little "poppy" for my taste but man it's awful to hear of her passing so young. I had never heard of Lisa Hannigan but love her music! Is she any relation to Alison Hannigan? They kind of favor.. Rick Siebolds "Mary" was real nice! I'm going to print out the music to pick it up. Thanks again for sharing! -Pix
Hey Jeff, Just found this great vid of Rick playing "Mary" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzvVqATyw0k You may have already seen it but I wanted to pass it on just in case... I can't find much in the way of chords or tabs for him. Thanks again for the artists.
Edited for spelling and addition of link.
For around the house I use a Korg Ca-30 (about $20) It's a good accurate tuner that covers the full scale w/ #'s and b's.
When I play out I use the tuner built into my Zoom A2.1u pedal.

Welcome to chordie meekle! Hope to see you around the forums
I've been playing Bossa Nova style all day.. I think I'm hooked on this style of playing:) I've never had this much fun learning a new style of music! This guy does some good instructionals if anyone else is interested in the style of play http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCrcpulS … re=related It's not really as hard as it first appears
I have decided to order some silk & steels for my older S&P, since their tone will better suit the music. I don't have a music store within 60 miles to compare brands... So, what is the best brand? Which ones last the longest? I hear they die pretty quickly, good for about a week or so... I also noticed that silk and steel strings are also gauged differently than steel strings. For example the GHS mediums are only 11-48s. So I'll probably be going at least medium and may have to go heavy to avoid any buzzing at the nut since I cut it at .56-.14 for the PB mediums I've been using. Do the heavier gauges keep their tone longer?? What do ya'll recommend? -Pix
Edited to add video link...
I haven't tried them but have heard they sound great for about a week and then lose tone fast... The people I've talked to recommend recording with them because of their superior tone but not for everyday play as they have a very short sweet spot and cost more than conventional strings.
I'm from Chadbourn, NC A small town, about 2,500 people. We're fairly well known for a huge strawberry festival we've held every spring for the past 77 years. We've been dubbed the "Strawberry Capitol of the World" Well 2 years ago a bunch of volunteers got together and built this stage
Regrettably it hasn't seen much use other than festival times. Anyway, I've been talking to a counsel member and it looks like we are going to start hosting monthly shows featuring local talent! This is great for the community!! The festival itself runs from April 30th to May 4th. On Saturday May 2nd the stage opens at 9:30 am and will be hosting entertainment until usually around 10pm. Just wanted to invite any members that may happen to be in the area to attend. Last year was a great show with a lot of solo singer songwriters performing and a few local bands. The coming monthly shows are still being organized but should be open to pretty much anyone that wants to take the stage for a few numbers or just sit around and enjoy the show. If anyone is fairly local and interested in performing or attending, drop me an email and I'll keep you updated on the schedules.
BTW.. This is a free event!
Yea, that's a heck of a "ding". Man, I feel your pain... I agree with dguyton. With that hard of a hit you may have other hidden issues. Have a luthier look at it. What kind of guitar is it? Is this on the back?
I always thought "Imagine" was a good one when starting Barre chords. The C Cmaj7 F progression flows pretty easily. It allows you to use your ring finger as a pivot when changing to the F...
Go for it Zurf! Nothing like a good guitar at a deal!
I'm lucky enough to have a supportive wife as well... Though she keeps hogging my 12 string and beer ...

Cool Guys! Those look like great reads and I'll be checking them out! Thanks! I read a lot and am always keen to finding new stuff!
I just finished reading "Sea Wolf" by Jack London for like the third time... Very highly recommended! Ken, I think you would especially like that one if you've never read it. Survival of the fittest with some really great philosophy on beliefs.

Thanks!
This is a little off topic but maybe someone following this thread can enlighten me... What does the "Walrus" symbolize in most older songs. In song's like "The Garden Party" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_exY9ptMbA or "I am the Walrus" by the Beatles" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqOKvonLrH8 It's referred to in many other older songs as well.. -Pix
I attempt
My voice has been said to give chill bumps.... Not the good kind, I mind you, but more along the lines of the ones you get when someone walks across your grave. It's often compared to the voice of an asthmatic goose
I kid... It's not really that bad but I'm far from a great vocalist! I can handle some songs fairly well but my range is limited. I do surprisingly well when recording alone but go all to hell when singing to strangers. I guess it's like anything else and just needs practice/confidence... Thankfully, when playing live, Jamie (a friend I gig with) handles all the vocals. I may add the occasional backup but that's it for now. Except Brett Dennen, I do cover his song "Ain't no Reason" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amwVyRH2B8A live. I hit that rough edge in his voice pretty good. -Pix
I know we have a few fisherman and I assume quite a few hunters amongst us here on Chordie. I'd like to share a great outdoor humorist/author with you. Patrick F McManus caught my attention in the early 80's when he wrote comical spoofs for "Outdoor Life" magazine. I used to cut them all out and I even made a kind of scrapbook out of them. I was hooked! A few years latter I found out he had some collections of short stories published and I quickly ordered all he had written! Man these are priceless!! The funniest stuff and things that all sportsman can relate to. I couldn't find any of his really good stuff that was readable online but here's a link to Google books that allows a few of his stories to be read online. http://books.google.com/books?id=rZRnRm … r=#PPA1,M1 This one here's pretty good as well http://books.google.com/books?id=6WhJgd … =#PPA56,M1 Enjoy! The books can be found on ebay often for just $1 or about $4 shipped if you look around. Enjoy! -Pix

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JcCQlZXMAM One from my favorites... A Classic!
Be carefull... I've heard of some pretty bad bugs/viruses being passed on through youtube recently. I got a request just this morning from some guy wanting me to do a special happy birthday vid for his girlfriend. He's in Poland and somehow stumbled upon one of my pages and decided he needed me to do the vid...??? Seems fishy, I'm not even responding. With the viruses going around just be carefull what you exchange with them.. Youtube is a very popular target at the moment. If it pans out, Great and Best of luck! -Pix

I still have a lousy ear
My previous post may have made it sound too easy
What I was trying to say is that now I can figure them out. I can't really just hear it and name it... (wish I could though) It's just that before I was completly lost and now I can actually find them and figure out what and where they are. So it seems to be helping.-Pix
Most prople around here use something similiar to Kens recipe. We mix it by the mug... 1 shot of bourbon, a spoon of honey, the juice of half a lemon and then cap it off with hot water (around 4 ounces) and stir. It really does work wonders.
Well it's public! I think it's at 68 songs... I've got video with chords and patterns uploaded and attached for 8-9 of them already (nothing fancy) and will be doing more through the week. http://www.chordie.com/publicbooks.php? … gid=191936 If you have some songs that you feel would be a good addition please leave them here and I'll be happy to add them. There's a few that still need editing and converting to chordpro format but I'm working on getting those straightened out. For those that don't already know, the songs with video and patterns are listed on the front page in the "Video Tutorials" section.
I ran into bugs trying to add some songs and found some missing, so if you recommended a song and it's not in the book, I probably had trouble adding it and apologize. I have reoprted some of these to Per and hopefully they will be fixed soon.-Pix
There are programs/aids you can buy that are helpfull... I bought "Complete Guitar by Ear" about a year or so ago and it has been a great trainer. It's a cd collection that carries you through all the notes at varying pitches and then you have go through and find them on the guitar. I practice with this a lot and it really helps! Before I was lost trying to find things by ear. Now I can hear a G note in a riff and say hey that's played on B string 8th fret or D string 5th fret etc... I got it from Musicians friend as one of their "Stupid deals" for only $5. It's been well worth it.
Maybe I'm the odd ball, but I just don't get cheater chords... Most of them are just removing the root note of the chord... If you take the A string 2nd fret out of the B chord you lose the root B, may as well just skip the chord IMO... I mean, you still have to learn a new form for the cheater version, wouldn't that time and muscle memory be better applied by learning the actual barre chords? I don't know, It just seams strange to me to spend all that time learning an inproper chord form. I realize barreing is hard and takes lots of practice, but in order to really progress you have to face them sometime. Why not do it from the get go instead of wasting time learning ways around them?? Just my .02 and I realize most probably won't agree..-Pix
