As promised: Ibanez GAX70TR Electric Guitar Agathis Body provides warm lows with strong sustain. But it is confusing, because there they write: a relative to mahogany, while on other sites they write that there is NO relation.
Best way to find info is googling agathis wood guitars.
I hope I could provide you some info. At least you know now where to look

Tibernius, this is what I found so far:
Agathis: wood coming from a genus of giant tropical conifer trees found in rain forests in the tropical far east and the southwest Pacific. It is also related to spruce, cedar. Some people claim that it is related to Mahogany: A BIG MISTAKE: NO RELATION. But some guitar builders use it abusing it as Mahogany. More correct is the fact that it is used as a low-grade alternative, and I quote: is nevertheless as good a material as, well, plywood, anyway. It seems to be good enough for Squier, but not for Fender, as an example.
It is difficult for me also asking the question "what is the best wood"? The same topic, but not yet answered is if a human ear can hear the difference between brazilian rosewood and indian rosewood. Mahogany is used a lot (I have one Martin, dark brown, in mahagony) An alternative is "sapele". About agathis I repeat it, is used in cheaper guitars has a relative good tonality, but they use it in lower budget guitars. I try to come back with more information, like guitar brands.

You can find lists on the web, I think on www.webfitz.com and search for oldies.
I was almost "petrified" to see names, BIG names in the 1 hitwonders.
Like Sinned 'O Connor, and in fact what hit did she have after "nothing compares". She was still very busy. Sinned has one of the most beautiful voices I ever heard.
A lot of us remember the MACARENA, performed by who? You will find the answers there.
Answers: OK, but why?
I hope to find some answers here. Making a list is absurd, because there are probably 1000 artists.
But I love to share your opinion. You know where to go, where to look, and being so amazed that your eyes will pup out.

Hi old doll, Ihave the impression that some of those instruments are used again.
About a harpsichord, I always think about the Rolling Stones: Lady Jane and A New Face in Town, from Voodoo Lounge, but that one can be a synthesiser, wathever, I adore the sound.

sumelton 1, I am from Belgium.
A lot of my guitars, I have an amazing collection, came straight from the States, 2 guitars, on the plane with me (one at the time), and I knew the serial number. A friend of me wrote that he sold (it was a Martin D-45V, difficult to find here, a lot of guitar stores have a D-35 or a D-42, and if they have a D-45, they ask between 8000€ and 10.000€)
Other guitars, like the entire serie PRS EG, US made, I found on eBay. Those guitars were made from 1990--> 1992, except for one 1990-->1994. I don't find them no longer.
They are dream guitars..
I will try to help, searching on the web.
I saw that guitar, a real beauty, and probably great sound. What's the price?

I suggest MODTAR (if you change places: D on the R, and R on the D place) you have MOTARD, French for a biker.
A give my Gibson's the same name, a GIBBY.
My Martin's: they are baptised in MARTINE, or MARTINI's
PRS: "Essies" my daughter's name is ESTHER, she's almost 20, I used to say a lot ESSIE, or S.
I can not believe that she is already 20 years. She is a "natural beauty", they asked her almost every week to become a model, but refused, except for one time, 3 years ago. Typical "parents" attitude, the "WHY DID SHE REFUSE" I didn't like it, she is so talented, and after a few weeks, I respected her reaction.

Well, I was surprised. It is still very early in the morning, I've been to the hospital on Friday, and you know all about my physical problems. The strangest thing was that I did compare this with the fact that I died twice, cardiac arrest, but they didn't want me in hell (even too bad) and not in heaven.
At first I was confused, there are so many QUALIFIED people, earning this more, I didn't refuse, and I made a promess.
- upyerkilt: you still can MODERATE ME
- SouthPaw41L: MODERATE ME TOO, because sometimes, I know myself, it can be 100% going to 10%
- Don Corleone: you are a great guy, I love your topics AND answers. More I think I even contacted you for New Zealand, because they need MD generalists there. There was SO MUCH I wanted to do, but destiny...glad to be alive. The cruise line thing: I was chosen too, for your country too,  and it was a very sad and hard period, because I start to live my life again, and if I am not able to work here, it will be the same in New Zealand.
One important thing is that , and I quote: You can call it dreaming, it helps me, my life phrase is, ...but I'm not the only one.
- Old Doll:I will always love you.
- Roger and James: BOTH OF YOU LEARNED ME A LOT.
- All other "chordians" who share the same passion.
I wrote I will always stay the same old weird gitaardocphil, I am happy and start to accept my limitations. Nothing changes in fact, because I will always advise. As a doctor I had really strong feelings, I knew almost what was going on the moment people stepped into my office.
Even when 100% sure about the diagnosis, I was not afraid to call in front of the patient, a colleague, specialised in Lungs, Heart.. to tell him if he agreed with me. This is the only way to tell that a team works better than an individual.
A question, proposition: Everyone here remembers "paranormal", and you see quit often youngsters with problems, and these events gave me since Juin a proposition, something, a place were they can discuss about problems, a kind of FEELING BAD topic.
Thanks to all of you, I wrote it 100 times: I owe a lot to chordie, because I learned a lot, and also, I changed a lot, it gave me the courage to do something else with my life, to live better and change some bad habits, like feeling myself useless.
There is so much more, that if I write everything here, it would take me a day.
My English has improved a lot, writing (75%), speaking (25%).
See you back on the topics.
Lieven PHILIPS (that is the "PHIL")

That is exactly what I will do here too, all together.

You have a point there last_rebel, except for Johnny Cash, the people you mentioned are more "famous" if you are a music lover. I know a lot of US musicians, but most of them are more or less popular too. About Hank Williams, and probably a lot of others, I am only familiar with the name and not the music. But the more I see and read here, the more I look to find some of their songs.

I am a Dunloper too, and as far I can read it correct (I use the a lot) it sais .73, it is not the really soft picks, but I don't like "picks" you can't bend with your fingers. I take them and try to squeeze, if it bends, I take it. Fender has some good picks too.
Too soft, be careful, I had received some martin picks, I got them for free and I choose very light, but I think they are all broken.
If I am not wrong, there were once pics made from the shell of a turtle, and some guitar playrs still use a coin.

MUSIC GUITAR MUSIC GUITAR MUSIC GUITAR: USE IT.
DO the unexpected like changing your looks, I used to do unexpected things, like shaving my hair, and on the other hand I was dressed in costume. People didn't know what to say.
But that one I wrote already, you are stronger than you think, but angry because of the sudden change. SO WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE CHANGING???????????????
DID YOU HAVE THE SAME IMPRESSION BEFORE? This is really important to know.
I am sure you will make it, using you and your skill. YOU CAN'T CHANGE OTHERS.

Hi ardstech, I agree with James and the others. I am from Belgium, and thanks to Chordie, my written English has improved a lot. My spoken English was not bad. About lyrics: I have a lot of songs, or better instrumentals, because no lyrics.
But I do have a few, like recently, meaning since a few days, I am busy, having the melody already a few months. The lyrics are about TIME: who and why is our time expressed in minutes and hours, while we both know that nice things, like a girl, a nice holiday, are going so fast. Better: why is 1 hour going so fast if you are doing something amusing, nice BUT so slow when sitting in a classroom? Pick something, a word, a phrase you like, and it will be easier. But who am I to tell this, because I have the same problem. I still haven't found an answer, but when it is about a song: the FIRST THING YOU WILL EXPERIENCE is the MELODY, later followed by the lyrics.

LONG LIVE SCOTLAND!!
It is better to go to a football game, than to a hospital, which will be my destiny again soon.
But I am happy, thanks God, on a scale of 100: 75% not bad.
Those lyrics are better than the others, and it took me 5 minutes to "create them" but 40 minutes to write them, every single word was written in this topic, with a guitar in my hand.

Thanks a lot Ken, this is in fact of the "existance" of this topic.
You are obsessed like me by music, and I think all the stuff around music. I still love knowing "that little detail, named why, who and what", and more, I am going nuts (but I am already nuts) to try to understand music, not tabs, chords or able to read music.
One of my biggest interests is that the USA, is different. If you want to start building a factory over there, it is or will be very difficult, and in the mean time we are so familiar with their "idustries", see Coca Cola. Isn't it a little bit strange that some UK albums have at least a different song list in the US, same for Japan. It must be a "painful" passion for fans to have and collect them all. As I told I am INFECTED BY THE MUSIC VIRUS, and I spend hours to search for information, facts and share them. I have time (unfortunately) because it is excluded to start working again. My child dream was being captain on a big boat, I had 40 years later the life opportunity: I was accepted to be a Doc on a cruise line. I had to mention my accident in my CV, but, EVEN BEING ACCEPTED and knowing I could start in Miami in April, they had the right to contact the hospital, and be sure, they did. I went to a horrible period, the struggle between knowing my condition and accepting it. I still can't accept it, even my social live has gone, only because I can't sit longer than 15 minutes. I will come, if invited, but I am to scared to go out for a party or a dinner. I have no secrets, I am still able to give advise, and writing about it, relieves me because I am not alone. I just want to make myself useful, I wrote 2 books, not published, because I am not allowed to earn money, but I can probably make a deal with insurance companies. I do hope that you, everybody, don't have to go through the same "hell".
I wrote you already, you are a very nice, comprehensive person, and I hope we'll meet each other some day.

I wanted only an opinion and cooperation about YOUR top 5 in 2007, and a timeless top 5

My 2007 list:
- BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN: MAGIC
- JOHN FOGERTY: REVIVAL
- FOO FIGHTERS: ECHOES, SILENCE, PATIENCE AND GRACE
- KT TUNSTAL: DRASTIC FANTASTIC
- THE WHITE STRIPES: ICKY THUMB.

ALL TIME LIST
- CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL: LIVE IN EUROPE
- PINK FLOYD: WISH YOU WERE HERE
- LED ZEPPELIN IV
- PINK FLOYD: THE WALL
- BEATLES: THE WHITE ALBUM

There is of course a great difference between European Groups and US groups.
As for me, there are still a lot of bands, famous in Europe and ready to conquer the USA, a dream becoming reality for only a few.
If I had a band (being older and supposed to be more realistic, which is difficult for me) I would concentrate me :
1) Europe, without the UK, because it is also more difficult, focusing on countries like Belgium, my or your homeland, and try to concentrate me on countries like Germany, Netherlands, Scandinavia, followed by France, Spain, Italy. COUNT THE POPULATION!!! and compare it with the USA.
But France is not so easy: FIRST: have you heard about "l' Academie Française" trying to avoid influences from NON French words: AIDS = SIDA. A lot of French artists covered famous song, US or UK, and sing them in French.
How big is the market: GERMANY: 82.000.000  FRANCE: 61.000.000  UK: 60.000.000  ITALY: 58.000.000  SPAIN: 40.000.000  NETHERLANDS & BELGIUM: 27.000.000 POLAND: 39.000.000
SCANDINAVIA (Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway): 24.000.000
total without UK: 292.000.000 and with UK: 360.000.000 I only added Poland, because the market is closer to us. This is a huge market, but compared to the States, we still have all those individual countries.
QUESTION: IS THERE IN THE USA ALSO A DIFFERENT MUSIC TASTE IN THE 50 STATES?
THE POPULATION IS also 300.000.000. Some US artists, like Michael Jackson did sell in the US only 27.000.000 copies of the album thriller BUT he is also huge in Europe. Less known here is GARTH BROOKS, also selling over 20.000.000 copies and relative unknown here.
This is called topic 1, because I loved to have a list with 2007 big sellers, and a top 5
__________________________________________________________________________

GITAARDOCPHIL SAIS: IT WILL BE A THRILLER USA VS EUROPE

Roger, I felt myself indeed a bit guilty, so the topic name changed.
So as you wrote, you start with lyrics and you build a song around it.
I am starting with a song, using some lyrics and than I add, change or delete chords.
How can I put a chord diagram here? or an image?

When you are young, you dream to be older.
When you are old, you dream to be younger.
We all have to face this.
But I repeat, you have ONE strong point: they like you playing on guitar: USE THIS SKILL
_______________________________________________________________________________

GITAARDOCPHIL SAIS: A SKULL IS NOT A SKILL

I didn't forget you at all, but I continued writing while answering the phone, .I want to make a list of great writers, and YOU are one of them. LOVING MUSIC; "SONGS" with lyrics.
There are so many people with fantastic lyrics.
I am better in my mother tongue, and also in French. I am already glad that I am not translating, when writing here, from Dutch to English.
Looking and analysing your answer, I am aware that I work about 50% in a similar way.
Sometimes I start to play a well known song (example) and soon I start playing other chords.
Sometimes it is there immediately.
While playing I start singing some words, but I always forget most of the lyrics. That is the reason why I have respect for a team writing a song while the other write lyrics. The best example is: ELTON JOHN & BERNIE TAUPIN

As I wrote already: THE NEW JOHN FOGERTY, SPRINGSTEEN.
There is a reissue from The piper at the gates of dawn" 40th anniversary pink floyd, and Foo Fighters: Echoes, silence, patiece and grace. Those guys are getting bigger and bigger.
It won't surprise me that they are starting to become the most poular band.

A lot, there is also another famous violin builder. I know they tried everything to find that Stradivarius sound, "'after a serious research", they also analysed the combination of the lacquer and, their violin was really good, I even think to remember they used aged wood like for a real Stradivarius
Recent study: a plague of woodworms was the secret behind the extraordinary success of the Stradivarius violin, according to a new U.S. study. They compared violins made with the same kind of wood, using MR scans, spectrography, and only in the Stradivarius violins they could make the difference. It seems that he used a crystal powder to block the worms.
and "they" are mostky the guitar gurus like Gruhn, Wheeler+the fact that The very rich Japanese buy a lot of expensive guitars, like Gretsch Penguin, and 1958-1960 Gibson Standards

WHERE THE ...DO YOU GET ALL THIS INSPIRATION?
I still don't know how you start: with lyrics, and this followed by a song?
OR: a song first and than lyrics.

I have at least 50 songs in my "refrigerator" songs:
75% without lyrics
20% with the most silly lyrics, you can imagine (I adore languages, and absorb them quit easy). When in the USA, at least 10 people asked me from which state I was. They have to do it sometimes, like when I purchased my Martin D-45V in Nashville at Gruhn's, because if I walked out that store I had to pay between 5%-10% taxes for Tennessee. But driving a Mustang Convertible, and returning back home from Houston to BELGIUM, they send that guitar with UPS to Houston for 50$.
I am going to Canada next year, don't laugh, with my mother.
She will be 78 years old in 2008, and we had 2 Canadian girls for a year. This will probably be her nicest holiday, I owe it to her. We are 5: 2 brothers and 2 sisters, but she helps me like she was 60 years. If not, she won't go aone.
This is maybe stuff I can use for a song: WHY IS ONE MOTHER NOT LIKE ANOTHER.

Against one of a silly "working" topics.
But when I saw the beautiful lyrics a lots of you do write, I have a simple "challenge"
Make a song with (at least 1 word: chordie)
Song: 2 strophes and 1 refrain

Mine: instant song, with a writers block because of I had to go to the bathroom without guitar
Strophe
E       E       E
The skies are blue
        E7         A
The smurfs are too
A      E                     A
I am confused and feel so used
    B7                             E           A   B7  E
I'm so hurt, and as kid abused.

Refrain
   G            C          C7   F
But I am back and back for good
       D7                 G         G7
strong as a vampire drinking blood
       C             Am            F           G
A chordian on mission, be aware my son
    Am           Em                    Cm     G               C    E
I've known them so long, I don't think they never gone

Strophe (other chords)

      G           Cm               G                    Cm           G
Yes your daddy knew so much about their goal and purpose
      E                A               E              A                     E
they acted as collective emotion without taking a certain pose
       B7                         A                             E
And I don' remember if they had the ring of the lords
      B7                          A                    E               B7 A E
All I know was the fact they did a business in chords

Yippie, a song written in 5 minutes .
Strum it Pick it , it is always if not impossible to do exactly the same, but if you play it, it's a mix of blues to rock, this time (being a plectrum player) just used my hand and fingers.

GITAARDOCPHIL SPEAKS LATIN: DE GUSTIBUS ET COLORIBUS NON EST DISPUTANDUM
(about taste and colours we can't argue)

Well rockerchick, I was also a considered as a kind of freak (maybe not the correct word), and even more when I was working (as a MD generalist) because I was subject of jealousy, by so called collueges of me.
WHY 1: probably because I had more patients and I could almost do what I wanted to do. Travelling, women, cars and still having more and more work.
WHY 2: I think because people took me like I was. Always try to be your self.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT TRY TO CHANGE THE OTHERS, YOU CAN ONLY CHANGE YOUR SELF. I mean by staying yourself, trying to adapt even if you don't want. You can't loose nothing, if you don't have to loose something. How old are you? What do you study for? and you love punk.
A very funny solution is: do the unexpected, I did. When they start judging you, I would really love to see their faces, if on one day you arrive at school, with a costume, including a tie, you will take them by surprise, without changing yourself. My slogan was: beat them with their weapons, stay calm, and be always honest with your self. If you like to talk, my mail is visible, and I promise to give you advise (still professional). I know it sucks, you are a young man with your heart on the right place, keep it that way. As far as I know the USA, by travelling and avoiding big cities, there are still a lot of nice people there, MORE THAN IN MY COUNTRY where most of the people are selfish.
Don't forget what you wrote: people say that the only thing good about me is I play guitar. USE IT, it proves that they DON'T HATE YOU.
I forgot to tell that it wasn't all peace in the hippie era. They started to live together "free love", but was that the solution? If it was so, why did it almost disappear?

I do agree, more I am convinced that somehow they push prices of vintage guitars almost in a surrealistic level. Is a Gibson LP Standard 1959 so much better than a reissue, with "aged wood", same neck and PAF's made today?

I know  this is a really interesting topic, and it is  it is related to chordie, because of the music.
On my player this week the following BRAND NEW ALBUMS
JOHN FOGERTY "REVIVAL"
It is an album, in my opinion, the closest to CCR, he ever made: swamp blues, country, folk, soul and rock (even some country music jazz gospel together on "the river is waiting'. It is like he is closing a "nasty period" after one of the most stupid things ever occurred in music record industry, (the other was Michael Jackson having the rights of Beatles-songs): no rights on his songs on the Fantasy label followed by trials. The funny thing is that he signed again a contract with Fantasy (impossible if he didn' get a phenomenal contract) 1 song on the album is track 3: creedence song (an amazing persiflage of the old CCR songs, and the Album title is REVIVAL. To hear it go to amazon.com. IT IS ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS THIS YEAR, IF NOT THE BEST, especially for CCR fans.
It is far the best album, softer voice and the "real familiar catchy tunes) ALREADY A CLASSIC for me.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN MAGIC
An album with the E street band (do I hear the soprano's?) and probably his best album since THE RIVER, but did "the boss" make bad albums? Probably yes, but there are always some good songs on it. Magic is more the BRUCE we know, a PROBABLY CLASSIC ALBUM

ABOUT OTHER AND OLDER ALBUMS.-
- Great stuff from the Netherlands: GOLDEN EARRING.
- THE WHO: releasing more and more "DE LUXE" albums: MY GENERATION, WHO'S NEXT, again popular thanks to CSI, like You wont get fooled again, and Baba 'O reilly
