I'd love to hear that.

Shine, David Gray. been working on this one for awhile.

Selso,
All kidding aside I would like to hear your cover of Miley Cyrus. I really dig when covers are performed across genres. I've heard a couple of Britney Spears covers that blew me away.  Post it up, I will stand with you for the ridicule!!

I have a different set up on this puter so when I figure out how record myself I will. Thanks for not making me feel like less of a man!!!

I'm still putting the finish touches on "Salomila" an old Tahitian Slackkey piece as arranged by Fran Guidry http://www.youtube.com/user/Guitarpixx# … 4VE66NiCGE If anyone else is interested in the arrangement, Email me for tabs...
I've also been toying around with an acoustic take on Bing Crosby's "Swinging on a Star" http://www.youtube.com/user/Guitarpixx# … ATftJiWdkw though I'll be playing the parody by fretkiller more http://www.youtube.com/user/Guitarpixx# … o3jeHrZbWs
Last one would have to be "Worries" by Langhorne Slim http://www.youtube.com/user/Guitarpixx# … T2NMuzpWi4 This is a simple little song that I love to play! It's taken me a little time to get all the hammer ons just right but it's pretty much there....

Hey Pix,
What did he mean when he said slackkey laws say you have to play it different each time?

That's a heck of a fish! I don't think they get that big here. Still to cold to go fishing here. Can't wait though they raised the price of a license.

I just now caught theses and at the risk of bringing up an old thread I have to say well done indeed. JP totally changed my perspective on music. I went from playing punk rock to throwing away all my picks and getting an acoustic. You do John Prine better then John Prine does John Prine!

Anybody seen that movie? I'm looking for the song that's at the beginning and at the end. I have no idea what its called but I've had it stuck in my head for a week.

I had an acoustic electric Takamine that just never sounded that great plugged in. Would have bought just the straight acoustic version but they literally wanted like 200 bucks extra.

In all the guitar catalogs, online research, etc, I've done it seems like acoustic electric guitars are cheaper then their acoustic counterparts. Why is this? Seems like the acoustic electric would be more with the electronics and such. Any ideas why? I think I should have posted this in the acoustic section. Sorry, its been awhile.

Hey Tony,

When I try to get the rhythm of a particular song, often I'll play the song on radio / computer and play along with it on my guitar.

My first step is simply to try to get my right hand going while muting all the strings with my left. That way I concentrate on the strum solely and not get distracted by trying to remember the chords. This way, it'll sound more percussive and you can work on matching your beat to the song's without trying to hear the melody.

Once you got that down and feel comfortable with your rhythm, make sure you know how to form all the chords in the song and try to play with the chords.

Honestly, I think that the "right" way to do it would be the way that everyone else suggested because, eventually, you'll be able to play any song without having to practice with the music playing all the time. However, I think the method I described above is pretty effective when you're a beginner and are trying to learn proper rhythm and strumming.

Another thing, when you're practicing by yourself (no music playing along), take it VERY slow at first. Strum each chord once and sing each lyric that goes with the chord. This helps you to get used to knowing when the changes should be. Then, once you understand the changes, strum regularly but still at a slow pace. Once you feel confident, bring up the tempo.

Hope this helps.

J.

That some pretty good advice if I do say so my self.
