Hi Guys ,
I've used the Dunlop
" trigger " capo for years .
Can't imagine using anything different . For me it's quicker and easier to put on than the Kysers .........

We play any country with a fiddle backing . C C R is one of our favorites for classic rock . Other than that , Simon & Garf , etc . the list goes on & on . We're in Detroit Lakes , Mn. , right up here where they hold the WeFest music festival every
year . ( If you've heard of that ) .
Dino ; My partner would love " Eight Second Ride " ,
He ran the rodeo circuit for years . He always says " The
animals don't hurt you a bit ,
what hurts is when that hard ground comes up and hits you ..............L O L .

Badeye ,
Excellent work , I'm rather fond of dark stuff myself , I think it reveals a lot about the writer's life experiences .
Expert use of minors and sevens too .
I do a lot of " dark " stuff ,
that I have written over the years . I have found that with the right chords , just the intro will set the mood .
Sometimes at jams I will start right out with three dark ones in a row , then lighten things up with some good loud classic rock , then
have someone ask me to do some more of the other ......
Again , excellent work !!!

Thank you all for the kind words . Have'nt been on here much as we got snow dumped on us again , and this time of year , moving the crap is how I make my living .
It's doubtfull you would ever hear my stuff performed unless you made it to one of our little jam shows . I do all of my stuff live . I don't record anything because when I start writing ,
the songs come so thick and fast that there just isn't time . The time I have for music , is just that and I don't want to spend it messing around with a computer or trying to be a recording engineer .
Thanks again , the kind words mean a lot coming from my Chordie buddies .
By the way Brad , feel free
to Badeye my stuff any time .

My new partner and I are going to play an upcoming battle of the bands type gig ,
and thought we should have
a name for our duo . After wracking our brains , we can't come up with anything we like . Any ideas would be great .
We play classic rock , old and newer country , and some fiddle folk stuff .
Physically , we are a lot alike . ( We've been accused of being brothers ) . We're both fifty something , a little grey here and there (especially the moustaches ) .
He's skinny , I'm ,well.....not .
His name is Dick , mine is Jerry. Add two black cowboy hats , and you can pretty much picture us .
Any ideas would be welcome.................

Hi Michael ,
I've never played uke , I have seen short scale electric bass guitars for sale used .
I always thought it would be fun to restring one of those , and make it a solid body electric tenor guitar??

Topic: Without You ( by Jerry Short ) (7 replies, posted in Songwriting)
Don't beat me up too bad , I
know I submitted this incorrectly .( My computer geek hasn't gotten around to helping me yet......)
This song came off the cuff one afternoon when my bro. called and asked me to write a song so we would have something new to work on that evening . This is what came out.........
I do it with a bright tempo .
( Without You )
( Am )
When you told me you were
leavin
( C )
I guess I stopped believin
( G )
In a love that I always
thought was true
( Am )
After all this time ,
( C )
I just quit wonderin why ,
( G )
I thought that it was me ,
but it was you .......
( Am ) ( G )
And I finally ......decided what
to do ...........
( Chorus )
( C )
I'll just crack another beer ,
( Am )
and I won't shed a tear ,
( G )
remembering this love I
thought we knew......
( C )
Cause when I stopped
believin ,
( Am )
And I knew I'd come out even
( G )
I knew that I was better off
without you..........
( Am ) ( G )
without you.........
( verse 2 )
( Am )
It's taken me a while ,
( C )
to realize I could smile ,
( G )
and live my life not feelin blue
( Am )
And I am not afraid ,
( C )
of pullin down the shade ,
( G )
on that life I always thought
I'd have with you .....
( Am ) ( G )
and live without you .....
( Am ) ( G )
without you......
( Repeat Chorus and End )
( I left out one verse in the interest of brevity )

Re: voice training (32 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Hi Kjohney ,
That recorder is a very usefull tool . I use a four track whenever I'm working on a new song , and keep playing it back to find out where I have to do something different . There are many songs that I love , but won't sing because my voice isn't right for them . Don't give up after recording one song . The next one you try might sound great .
As mentioned , use songs that require long notes , use your diaphram , and use a monitor facing you . You'll be amazed at the difference between head tones and hearing the sound in the air .
Good luck , and don't give up ...............Jerry
P.S. Nela says it all......

Re: which is better, light or medium acoustic guitar strings (20 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Hi guys ,
I play x-lights on my accoustics and heavy on my electric . I think the x-lights ring nicer on the accoustics .
I frequently drop tune my electric and that does'nt work real well with light strings . I've been playing so long that it does'nt seem to bother one way or the other for fingering .
Do some experimenting and you'll find what's right for you ..........

Badeye ,
Thanks , I love this song .
Right off , it makes me think of some of my best friends over the years . I think one of the most important things a song writer learns , is how to make the listener identify
with the lyrics . Great job......

Re: Distinctive strummers (16 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Hey Top ,
I love this topic , it is so true
Long ago a wise man once said that " all you needed to make it in the music biz , was a red guitar , three chords and the truth " . Probably didn't know how true that statement was .
Know what you mean though . It seems like we do quite a few songs with the
C Am F G chord progression .
Sometimes the intro is the only thing to distinguish . That's why we seldom do those back to back . One night we were playing and I did the run up for Earth Angel
and my partner started singing " Wise Men Say......",
so I switched a couple chords around and away we went .It
was still funny........
For your question though ,
BeeGees " 1912 Mining Disaster ", The Band " The Weight " , Nitty Gritty " Mr Bojangles " , If you're a flat picker like me , then Simon & Garf.
" Sound of Silence & Scarbough Fair " . These are all very distinctive .
Good luck..........Jerry

Hi Fred ,
Don't mess with it if it's under warranty . Now is as good a time as any to find out if that warranty is worth the paper it's written on . Return it to the dealer and let them deal with it . You paid too much for that guitar to have to fix it your self . Not only that , but if you do mess with it , and still end up taking it in , they'll have something to say about that .
Interesting problem though , I've heard of wireless units doing that but never a guitar .
Good luck , let us know what you find out .............

Re: Autoharp (12 replies, posted in Other string instruments)
Hi all ,
This topic reminds me of about ten years ago . My wife has never been real musical but she wanted to join in at our jams . After thinking about this for a while , I remembered the autoharps that they used to have in grade school , and that anybody could play them . So I got one for her ,
a nice O.S. 21 chord . The only problem was volume . I tried just about every thing , a mag pickup , a transducer ,
even tried just a mic . Nothing seemed to work well enough . Some one must have figured out a way to amp these things , they really
do sound nice................

Hey Wade ,
Now that you picked it up again , stay with it .
I'm playing mine alot more now . My new jam partner has my taste in music so on a lot of songs , I fiddle and he handles the guitar part .
Makes a nice change from playing guitar all the time .
I love the sound of a guitar and a fiddle playing together .
If you get a chance , play yours with another guitar player , you'll love it............

As far as marrying the guitar goes , I've got a wife .
But between my guitars and fiddles , I've got sixteen fiance's . ( don't know how I could ever pick one out above the rest , but it has been , and will be , a long and wonderfull engagement..)

Re: acoustic guitar amps (24 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Hi guys ,
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the often overlooked Peavey KBs .
I've owned two of them over the years . The first one was a KB 60 , paid fifty used .
Loved it , like an idiot I sold it . Then I found a KB/A 60 ,
( paid seventy five used ) ,
that I will never give up .
They both run two channels , with two inputs each , 50 watts , and full range EQ and reverb .
They're actually keyboard amps , so they'll handle the whole range , low , mid , high . Excellent for vocals too.
I'm actually keeping my eyes open now for the larger version , KB 100 or KB/A 100
for our outdoor jams . The 100 has three channels .
These things are bullet proof ............
I also have a six channel powered mixer that we use sometimes , 150 watts , and
that thing just does'nt have the snort that the Peavey has...............

Hello BBDGus ,
Welcome to chordie .
Not familiar with that model, but for the most part ,
untill you get into the higher priced guitars , they're typically made of either Luan
or mahogany back and sides
and spruce tops . In more
expensive guitars you'll find maple , rosewood , and mahogany in all different subspecies .
( As far as your english goes , it's better than some born and bred americans I know.......)
Keep Playing..........

Re: CHEAP GIBSONS (17 replies, posted in Electric)
Hey Doc ,
I'm no expert when it comes to Gibsons , but I have done some research as far as the Les Pauls go .
If you're going to compare the Epi and the Gib Les Paul ,
don't use the $100 Epi . The guys I know who play this type of guitar , have played both the Gib and the Epi Les Paul standard and tell me , they would never put out the bucks for the Gib . I've also heard people say that the Epis aren't real Les Pauls .
Let us not forget ( unless all my research was incorrect ) ,
that when Les Paul developed
his first prototype ( the " Log " ) of what evolved into the modern Les Paul , he was working for Epiphone ..........

Re: to tune the guitar (20 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Hey Zucko ,
Are you refering to an audio cassette tape ? This would only help you tune the instrument " relative ". In all my years , I've only seen expensive professional quality
players play at the proper speed . Otherwise from one to another , they're all over the map . If you're going to do this , it would be easier just to tune each string by it's neighbor fretted on the proper note .
You can buy a quality tuner nowadays for anywhere between ten and twenty dollars . That would be my advice , you'll be much happier in the end......
Good luck............

Re: Conning a Singer (4 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Hi etc ,
I used to try to get people that come to watch our jams to get up and sing , but I don't have to anymore .
I have three or four folders full of loose song lyric sheets .
What I do , is just leave them lay on the tables . About half way through the evening they're looking and finding songs they love , and willing to try sing them .
Be warned however , even the shy ones , once you get them in front of that mic , it's hard to pry them away .
I call it " mic struck ".....
