well you've been welcomed from the far, far watery west, so as a wester from nearer (see the flag?) a big welcome here too. i like that saying "north of 40" well i'm north of 60 and still gigging. if you're into jamming? a lot of our guys have filmed their jams, we'd be chuft to see some of yours.

Hi Curtis. I find your style of singing and the style of the song is quite "olde English" folk (not country or blues) yet your writing has a modern feel in the words of the story, but there's nothing wrong with that.

The only improvement I can see is recording with a band to get some bass and drums and maybe a harmony or two, having said that, it stands as a solo effort.

My voice is quite nasal I think and squeaky too, my answer is to get a good mic and mixer and a ton of effects!

as long as there are poor fools who are prepared to accept the crumbs from the rich man's table there will never be equality. and as long as some numpty puts up parking metres or puts down double yellow lines, there will never be true happiness for the humble motorist that may be needing a pee? or a dozen eggs?

Hi peeps,

yeh just moved Luthers post to it's own thread, thanks Amy for the tutorial cool

TF, everything is beautiful in it's own way, so the song goes, and you too keepitreal, just to say you're not born a poet, Shakespeare wasn't, Wordsworth wasn't , Dylan Thomas wasn't. they worked at it because they had the muse within them. One day we may all get there.  Your poem TF is a reflection of the modern world in which we live and stands as relevant as anything one of the above wrote. I've spent many a night as you describe...minus the forest bit. well done, thanks for sharing.

Hi Luther.

Welcome to Chordie. There are a few niceties that we all must follow when posting a new poem for instance. Main one is that we DO NOT in any circumstance add our poem (regardless of how good it is) onto another member's thread, as you have done. But not to worry, we all make mistakes, you're not the first and you wont be the last, I've made them even the head honcho below god, Mr Guppy, has made a few. And so please, if you add more, and I hope you do and become one of the regular community, please start your own thread in that way you will get more attention to your work. I hope you have read and understood this and in the future start your own thread unless you have a comment to make on another topic.

You may have noticed that I moved your original post to it's own thread.

i like this and hope to hear it as a song one of these fine days?

I've always gone with "start with an easy one" just to settle any nerves. When I saw you were going to jam on the first song I was a little nervous for you, I try to avoid solos and such till I settle down. Still, glad you got through it unscathed and you're looking forward to doing it again....shame about the Sony, I would have taped the first gig just to see the weak points not for public display....unless it was really good, which is why you never see me live on you-tube  lol

so many of the members that were regular contributors when i joined (seems like years ago now) have fallen by the wayside. most just stopped posting for their own reasons, toots is the first i know of that have sadly passed on to a (hopefully) better place.

my condolences to his family and all the members that knew him in person and through chordie like me.

RIP TOOTS, you will live on through your posts and the music you made.

the title of your post enthralled me so i had to have a look....to be honest i thought it was the name of a band or a song title!

that rail trip sounds brill, must try it if i ever get to cross the pond.

this has to be one of the best poems i've seen in a very long time.

while i was reading i kept substituting "DOWN" for "BELOW" and on the last verse "HIGH" for "ABOVE". i hope you don't mind me making suggestions?

apart from that your use of words is fantastic.

that's another beauty my friend. to be honest it reads like a poem, more than that, a love poem, pity it didn't give you the nudge before valentines day, you'd have been on major brownie points. waiting for the recording, i'd love to hear this great tune you refer to, i'd rather listen to how you feel it than put my own musings to it. well done again.

thanks for the comments. when i read jims words i could see a potential. jim has a special way of writing, especially his choruses. all i did was take his song and added my.... whatever it's called? to it. i think we make a good partnership in this respect.
it's not actually in Dbm, it's still in E, but when i sing "change" it goes to Dbm to give the song an extra push. it would be easier to play in the key of C or G where you'd play Am or Em respectively ( for those still petitioning for the banning of B chords).... sorry couldn't resist that one.

well done jim you are blossoming as a song writer

i must be honest, i have not been much of a sure fan since one let me down mid way through a performance in front of a substantial audience! i use a beyer now which is good and clear for stage work.
i bought just this week a condenser mic from amazon cost me just £20 (add $10 for the exchange rate i'd expect) i just looked at the box but cant find a maker but when it sounds that good who cares? it comes with an XLR (female) to a stereo mini jack (male) it's quite heavy and seems sturdy for the price. check it out.

welcome to chordie

Which one did you get, Phill?  I'm really fond of AKGs as well.  Low cost, sound great.

It's a better dynamic TG_X60. Or were you referring to the condenser? No idea of the maker, just that it's got Chinese writing on the box. If it lasts a year it's OK at that price I ll just buy another.
