Re: How old is chordie?

Ooh! That's cruel Brian. Chordie like the tides rise and fall, don't write the old girl off yet.

I joined in 2007 I think and it had been going a few years before that. To get an idea, check when Roger Guppy joined, or maybe Per will give you an exact date?

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: How old is chordie?

upyerkilt (Ken) 'Unofficial king of Scotland' is the earliest recorded Member on 4th March 2006 but I am sure that Chordie has been around longer than that.

Re: How old is chordie?

Thank you, guys, for your info so far.  So our man from Bonnie Scotland upyerkilt (Ken) 'Unofficial king of Scotland' at the moment is on record as been the first known  to post on chordie. So if your out there I salute you upyerkilt and if you do read this please pop back and say hi. I see jets 60 joined in March of 2006 a little bit after  upyerkilt. If you have some memories of the first people to inhabit habit chordie that would be interesting. Looks like Phill and Roger came to chordie in its early days so both can claim to be here for a good part of its history. I’m thinking that it could probably be that chordie could date back maybe to somewhere in the first years of this century. BTW I came to chordie as a result of easybeat who joined chordie  in 2010 encouraging me  to check it out in 2015. At that time there was a bigger number of people posting from diverse backgrounds. Maybe the founder or founders can give us the start date??

Re: How old is chordie?

Chordie has one most inspiring guitar forums on the Internet. A great source for all kind of guitar related issues.

Re: How old is chordie?

I'm pretty sure Chordie was around prior to 06. I migrated over here when some "Lawyer Types" forced OLGA (On Line Guitar Archive) to fold their tents around 2002-2004? (I forget... old age I suppose). Started visiting fairly regularly for a couple of years before joining, so I would guess Chordie predates 2004. Finally registered in July 2006 I think, and up til then hadn't felt any need to post in the forums. There was a nice community of "Chordians" forming and a few names I do remember were Upyerkilt, Old Doll, Riddler, Fat Strings and with some time there should be more names buried in the dusty recesses of my memory. From time to time I do wonder about those inactive former friends, and remember those that have passed on to another plane of existence, Their friendship and welcoming nature helped build Chordie into one of the best sources of music and inspiration available today. Thank You All for Participating.

Re: How old is chordie?

Good one Doug, I guess the founder of chordie would have had to do plenty of researched to make sure everything was legit before launching. On my short time here I have loved the names people have given themselves. Love to hear from some of the old time chordie characters if their still out there. One of the many characters that have encouraged me a lot in my short time here is Bill Craig. It has been a while since Bill has posted if your still out there Bill pop in and say hi.

2006 according to the Wiki article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On-line_Guitar_Archive - I think the 'take down' stuff started around 2003, a friend wrote a script to archive it, and you can still find remnants of it on the web today ...

Re: How old is chordie?

An excellent bit of research there Richard. I wonder if there is any more info on the start date of chordie or is it a trade secret???

First record I could find was 8th Dec, 2002, and this is what it looked like: https://web.archive.org/web/20021208055 … ordie.com/

Looks like it became popular around 2005 as per this graph of usage:

Re: How old is chordie?

Richard that is genius how you found that site thank you. I think it will be safe to infer that December 8th, 2002, is the date chordie kicked into action or had people responding to it online and use that as its birthdate.

Re: How old is chordie?

I have messaged Per and he stated: "The domain chordie.com was registered Oct 25 in 2002. So it does actually have a 20 year birthday soon."

Re: How old is chordie?

Thank you, Roger, that is real good having a birthdate for chordie.  Also thank you to Per.  Twenty on October 25th a good age to reach as at that time of chordie  registration  I should imagine the world wide web would still have been young a new frontier for many at that time in history.     At that time 2002 a computer was something I only used at work I never thought at that time of using one at home.

How come we don't see Per on here?

Re: How old is chordie?

Hi Alickabrooke1. welcome to the forum (eventually). Roger I think Joined almost as soon as Chordie began so somewhere around 2006. I joined in 2007 while I was holidaying in Australia and as you noticed there were a lot more names frequenting the forum at that time. I do hope you'll come visit often, we could do with some new blood and views to get our juices flowing again.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.
