No such thing as cheating. If it works, it's good.

I use a capo a lot. Mainly to suit my voice but also to avoid too many barre chords. It also gives a different sound which is also nice sometimes.

But if your guitar is easier to play, as in easier to press the strings to the fret board, when the capo is on then maybe you should look at getting the action on your guitar checked out. Maybe it's ajust a bit to high. Your local music shop should be able to set it up for you.

One of the things in Chordie's favour is that it doesn't host any of the songs on the index, they are all from other sites and Chordie only finds them for you.

Boo hoo. Here, I'll pick your toys up for you, they seem to have been thrown out the pram.

The songs that are listed on the Chordie index are not hosted or "put up" by Chordie. Chordie acts as a search engine, searching the internet for songs and then displaying them in usually a nice format for us to enjoy.

As with any song on any site they are added by people who have taken the time to work them out so that folk like you and me don't have to or have a good place to start working from.

If you have a problem with any of the songs on the Chordie index you can find the host site by clicking on "original song" which appears in the box marked "IMPORTANT INFORMATION" and contacting either the author of the post or the host of the website.

Thanks.

Good detective work, Pete. I think the link explains it well. The traditional words can be found here...

http://www.traditionalmusic.co.uk/scott … 009462.HTM

But it seems RLS wrote new words. Mull, Rum and Eigg (pronounced egg) are all islands in the Western Isles of Scotland.

New song? Canny wait!

This is known as the I IV V chord pattern. Here's a little something on background...

http://musiced.about.com/od/beginnersth … merals.htm

Basically the 3 chords taken from the I IV V are the principal chords of the song. Many many, some would say nearly all, country and gospel songs use I IV V. The good thing is that it applies to any key. If you look at the table from the link you'll see that G, C, D is the I IV V pattern in the key of G (you probably knew that already). So if you come across a song with the chord patter A ,D, E or C, F, G or D, G, A -  these are all I IV V patterns and using your capo you can change the key so that the chord shapes you are playing are G, C, D.

So if the song is in D (D, G, A) and you put your capo on the 5th fret and play chord shapes G, C, D you are still playing in D. Or you can simply just change the key to G and play it open.

I hope I have explained this clearly enough. If not please let me know.

I personally prefer 12's. Most music shops I've ever been in put 12's on their guitars. So if it's been "set up" in the shop it's been done with 12's on it. Having said that, I have used 11's too and they sound just as good. I just prefer the heavier string.

Here's what I went for..

http://images.channeladvisor.com/Sell/SSProfiles/72000142/Images/24/ULP-1E-CS1.jpg

I went for fun in the end.

Drop D is when the 6th string is droped down to a D. Open D is where the guitar is tuned to an open D major chord. So strumming all the strings in the open position gives you a D major chord - D A D F# A D

Listen to the drums to get the basic rhythm. Actually play along with your hands, like air drums. NOW, put your non-srumming hand (fretting hand) away. Sit on it or hide it somewhere. Do the same drum thing but with only your strumming hand. Use the side of your thigh as the drum and do the whole drum thing one handed. Beat out the whole drum beat not just half of it. Now pay attention to what your hand is doing. Hopefully it should be beating out your basic strum pattern.

I feel for you, Zurf. You must be worried sick, along with the rest of Gary's friends and family. My prayers and positive thoughts go out to you all.

And you must learn that B!

Man, I'd love a wap version of the site. How many times have you been trapped at a party and totally forget how to play a song?

Make it so.

Whoooaa, Wayne, that photo is very disturbing on so many levels. lol

Hee hee lol Love it.

Nice, Wayne. Today is Father's Day in the UK. Here's to your Dad. My Dad. Everyone's Dad.

I have to say that as a 1st post on a guitar forum this is a very odd one. If this is your usual contribution to any online community then i guess you have more reason to be paranoid than most of us on Chordie.

Having said that, welcome to Chordie. When the governments of the world do actually impose a B chord ban then I'll start to worry.

Yeah, I saw that. It's a bit out of my price range for a 1st uke. I've also decided against the baritone. I also don't think Pix will ship it to the UK.

Sorry for hijacking.

Steve, I wish my wife could predict these things. Alas she doesn't take much interest in my musical fascination. I think she's just happy it keeps me out of her hair, and out of the pub lol
