Old Doll.

Why Blend in with the Crowd ? When you were made to stand out !

Re: Romantic song to impress your girlfriend

Write something specially for her....that should do it. The fact you've even bothered should impress her no end.

All I got, is a red guitar, three chords and the truth

Re: Romantic song to impress your girlfriend

If you go on the ballad tour, using an original composition, style Bryan Adams, Bee Gees, and you put the right lyrics for your song, she will defenitly appreciate.

GOOD LUCK, with a good LICK

Re: Romantic song to impress your girlfriend

How and what do you feel about your woman? Is it a physical love, is it just sex or want of, or is is rooted deep in your heart? Write it down, what & how you feel. Even if you do not have it to music sing accapello to her and let her know how you feel.

Good luck.

Re: Romantic song to impress your girlfriend

Hi Shaun!

I second Old Dolls Wonderfull tonight/Clapton. Also she's a gal so she should know (Don't only ask boys what girls like to hear... ).

A little history if you want to step up the impact. My friend recorded his girlfriends 3 favourite songs (2 singback and one he played himself) on a cd. Fixed a date on a cosy restaurant and got the staff to play the CD without her knowing.

She started singing along with the songs, and after a while she asked him why he wasn't singing (wich he always does).

He answerd truthfully: That's exactly what I'm doing, and then he proposed to her...

They are still married, so i guess it worked.

/Missen

PS. If it's a new relation, maybe you should wait with the proposing bit...

If you love what you do, there's no need to be good at it...

Re: Romantic song to impress your girlfriend

The most impressive thing you can do is compose one on your own. Nothing extravigant, just a verse and chorous, maybe two verses. Usualy the simpler the better. Check out the songwriting forum. These guys write realy good stuff and I really can't imagine any of them telling you not to use one of their songs.( except american chaos theory. He's a real ass but his songs suck anyway )

"Nobody paints by ear so why would I play guitar by sight?" hmm

Re: Romantic song to impress your girlfriend

Write your own song expressing your love for her and then sing it in your best Barry White voice...

Middleaged Redneck sorta guy who refuses to grow up...passion for music, especially Southern Rock but like bout everything cept Gangsta/Hip Hop. Collect guitars, mandolins, and love to ride Harleys.

Re: Romantic song to impress your girlfriend

has been mentioned here but I tihnk the easiest song will be eric clapton's wonderful tonight

And if she ha not got long blonde hair then cheat and sing long dark hair or short dark hair.

Or give er a long hair wig to put on while you sig to her

good luck

Ken

ye get some that are cut out for the job and others just get by from pretending

Re: Romantic song to impress your girlfriend

Actually American Chaos Theory is leading you astray there. His last offering "Stuck In A Tree" is a lovely lady killer love song (but don't let him know I told you so it might go to his head).

I have to agree with the others that an original that you write is far better than using a well known one. If you have not written a song before it is probably easier to steal someone elses music and put your own words to it. Who knows once you start you may become a regular contibutor the the Songwriting section of the forum.

Good Luck,

Roger

Re: Romantic song to impress your girlfriend

Peter Frampton - Baby I love Your Way

Billy Joel - Shes Always a Woman

Sheesh the list goes on and on. Good luck and just remember that just sitting with her and playing anything should be enough. My wife tends to love songs that she enjoys singing along to. Even if they were songs I don't particularly enjoy. She likes to know that I made the effort to learn them for her.

Best of luck

I may be goin' to hell in a bucket babe

Re: Romantic song to impress your girlfriend

Hey bro,

Just thought of one. An accoustic version of "Something" by the Beatles. The chords are available here and very easy. You can hear it on Anthology 3. It's perfect for getting the girl and Frank Sinatra himself called it the best love song ever written.

"Nobody paints by ear so why would I play guitar by sight?" hmm

Re: Romantic song to impress your girlfriend

if u write ur own song, make sure to use the chords Cmaj7, Fmaj7, Amaj7, and Dmaj7. These are THE most romantic chords ever!!!! U can find the fingerings in the chordie chord charts.

Re: Romantic song to impress your girlfriend

Definately agree with Ken on this one! Try learning the really easy fingerpicking pattern to Wonderful Tonight. I had trouble with the main riffs on my normal 'non-cutaway acoustic guitar (blaming the tool! ) but if you can just get the main pattern and chord progression down to a tee, it does actually sound really nice! Then just chuck in a couple of hammer-ons and slides and you're on to a winner!

have a look on 'youtube' for Wonderful Tonight and there are a couple of guys that play it without the riffs ... sounds nice!

Good Luck!

"I'd Love Lou to Want Me," by Lobo.... "Baby I'd love you want me... I see the want in your blue eyes..."

Re: Romantic song to impress your girlfriend

There is a love song from 1964 that probably caused a mini-babyboom. "Catch the Wind" by Donovan is a beautifully simple romantic ballad. There are probably plenty of 43 year olds who were concieved while this song playing on the radio or the hi-fi.

Here is a video of Donovan performing the song that launched his career:

Here is a version of the song from my chordie songbook 'Folkie Dolkie 1':

What is most appealing about this song's lyric is that Donovan confesses his fascination/reverence for his lover AND he acknowledges his lover's free will and independence. It is a truly beautiful tribute to a person that he both loves and respects. James

Re: Romantic song to impress your girlfriend

Oh, Man, I wondered this myself, a great song is "Hey There Delilah," by the Plain White Tees. It's not to hard, but if you sing it right, she'll love it. But, as was mentioned before, she will appreciate the fact that you even went to the effort to learn any song for her.

How 'bout Scarborough Fair? Ha, just kiddin'. tongue
A lot of these suggestions are really good, I'm kinda backing the "write-your-own" or "Catch the Wind" by Donovan.
Then again, I'm only a 12 year old girl so....
Good Luck!

The Irish gave the bagpipes to the Scots as a joke, but the Scots haven't got the joke yet.

Re: Romantic song to impress your girlfriend

All this talk of Clapton's Wonderful Tonight made me have a wee go at playing it. Good fun.
My wife popped her head round the door and asked if I was playing it for her. I looked down at my guitar and gave it a loving stroke and replied, "She's beautiful!". Needless to say the Mrs wasn't too chuffed.

Be careful!

Is anything really made up of zeros and ones??
